The principles of a narrowband technique for pulse echo attenuation measurements are presented. Experiments are described which compare the attenuation in tissue-mimicking phantoms, measured by known methods, to the attenuation measured by the present technique. The effects of various experimental parameters on the results are investigated. The attenuation in spleens of canine models and in livers of human volunteers is presented.  相似文献

Antimicrobial packaging can preserve and increase shelf life of free preservatives food products. Active materials present in the packaging material can migrate, in a controlled manner, to the food surface, avoiding bacterial and fungal proliferation and keeping the food product edible for longer periods of time. Essential oils (EO) are natural antimicrobial agents that can be released to the headspace with no direct contact between the package and the food. To minimize loses of EO during high heat melt processing, a three stages process was implemented and tested. Antimicrobial films were prepared by melt mixing a variety of polyethylene copolymers in the presence of organo‐modified montmorillonite nano clay (NC) and thymol, an EO present in oregano and thyme. A controlled EO desorption from films can be achieved by changing the polymer crystallinity and polarity. As the crystallinity increased, the thermal stability of the EO during the extrusion process improved. The addition of NC affects the structure and homogeneity of the crystals. The combination of high polymer crystallinity and chemical affinity between EO and NC increased the thermal stability of the EO during film processing, enabling to control the desorption rate. The effect of multilayer structure based on varied densities and polarities was also studied. Increasing the polarity of the outer layers in multilayered film reduced the EO desorption rate as a result of chemical interactions between the polymer and the EO. The final antimicrobial activity of the films was also found to be dependent on the EO partitioning. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 40309.  相似文献

Summary Thesnapshot object is an important tool for constructing wait-free asynchronous algorithms. We relate the snapshot object to thelattice agreement decision problem. It is shown that any algorithm for solving lattice agreement can be transformed into an implementation of a snapshot object. The overhead cost of this transformation is only a linear number of read and write operations on atomic single-writer multi-reader registers. The transformation uses an unbounded amount of shared memory. We present a deterministic algorithm for lattice agreement that usedO (log2 n) operations on 2-processorTest & Set registers, plusO (n) operations on atomic single-writer multi-reader registers. The shared objects are used by the algorithm in adynamic mode, that is, the identity of the processors that access each of the shared objects is determined dynamically during the execution of the algorithm. By a randomized implementation of 2-processorsTest & Set registers from atomic registers, this algorithm implies a randomized algorthm for lattice agreement that uses an expected number ofO (n) operations on (dynamic) atomic single-writer multi-reader registers. Combined with our transformation this yields implementations of atomic snapshots with the same complexity.Cambridge Research Laboratory, Digital Equipment Corporation Hagit Attiya received the B.Sc. degreeiin Mathematics and Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in 1981, the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in 1983 and 1987, respectively. Connected dominating set (CDS) has been proposed as virtual backbone or spine of wireless ad hoc networks. Three distributed approximation algorithms have been proposed in the literature for minimum CDS. In this paper, we first reinvestigate their performances. None of these algorithms have constant approximation factors. Thus these algorithms cannot guarantee to generate a CDS of small size. Their message complexities can be as high as O(n 2), and their time complexities may also be as large as O(n 2) and O(n 3). We then present our own distributed algorithm that outperforms the existing algorithms. This algorithm has an approximation factor of at most 8, O(n) time complexity and O(nlogn) message complexity. By establishing the (nlogn) lower bound on the message complexity of any distributed algorithm for nontrivial CDS, our algorithm is thus message-optimal.  相似文献

The nonstationary evolution of the strain filter due to lateral and elevational motion of the tissue scatterers across the ultrasound beam is analyzed for the 1-D cross-correlation-based strain estimator. The effective correlation coefficient that includes the contributions due to lateral and elevational signal decorrelation is used to derate the upper bound of the signal-to-noise ratio in the elastogram (SNRe) predicted by the ideal strain filter. In the case of an elastically homogeneous target, if the transducer is on the axis of symmetry of such target in the elevational direction, the motion of the scatterers out the imaging plane is minimized. In addition, the ultrasound beam along the elevational direction is broader, allowing scatterers to stay longer within the beam during tissue compression. Under these conditions, lateral signal decorrelation becomes the primary contributor to the nonstationary behavior of the strain filter. Both the elastographic SNRe and the dynamic range are reduced, with an increase in lateral decorrelation. Finite element simulations and phantom experiments are presented in this paper to corroborate the theoretical strain filter. The nonstationary behavior of the strain filter is reduced by confining the tissue in the lateral direction (minimizing motion of tissue scatterers), thereby improving the quality of the elastogram.  相似文献

Different melt mixing sequences were applied to incorporate multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into blends prepared from high density polyethylene (PE) and polyamide 12 (PA). Electron microscopy, rheology and electrical resistivity were used to characterize the morphology and microstructure. At a composition of 75PA/25PE, presence of CNT at the interface promoted by premixing the CNTs in the PE phase, resulted in finer phase morphology and a decrease in the resistivity of up to five decades relative to other mixing procedures used. At a composition of 25PA/75PE, premixing the CNT in the PA phase resulted in their segregation inside and around the PA domains and a four decade lower resistivity. Interestingly, compounds that yielded the lowest resistivity were also characterized by increased low frequency melt storage modulus (G′) which indicates the existence of a correlation between the two properties.  相似文献

We considered the load-balanced multiplication of a large sparse matrix with a large sequence of vectors on parallel computers. We propose a method that combines fast load-balancing with efficient message-passing techniques to alleviate computational and inter-node communications challenges. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated on benchmark as well as on synthetically generated matrices and compared with the current work. It is shown that, by using our approach, a tangible improvement over prior work can be obtained, particularly for very sparse and skewed matrices. Moreover, it is also shown that I/O overhead for this problem can be efficiently amortized through I/O latency hiding and overall load-balancing.  相似文献

Anisotropic CdS nanorods tipped by Au nanoparticles on one edge (Au‐CdS‐NRs) are perpendicularly oriented at the air/water interface, whereby all the Au tips are located in the subphase, using the Langmuir–Blodgett technique. Since these nano‐objects reveal light‐induced charge separation at the semiconductor/metal interface, it is of high interest to control their organization. The orientation of these assemblies is studied in situ while compressing the Langmuir–Blodgett trough using the π‐A isotherm, Brewster angle microscopy, and horizontal touch voltammetry. All these analyses clearly confirm the induced organization of the amphiphilic Au‐CdS‐NRs by compression of the Langmuir layer. The compressed layers are successfully transferred by the Langmuir–Schaefer method onto transmission electron microscopy grids while maintaining the preferential orientation as analyzed by transmission, scanning and scanning trasmission electron microscopy, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. As far as can be determined, the Langmuir–Blodgett technique has not been used so far for perpendicularly orienting anisotropic nano‐objects. Moreover, these findings clearly demonstrate that anisotropic amphiphilic nano‐objects can be treated with some similarity to the traditional amphiphilic molecular building blocks.  相似文献

A major disadvantage of the current practice of elastography is that only the axial component of the strain is estimated. The lateral and elevational components are basically disregarded, yet they corrupt the axial strain estimation by inducing decorrelation noise. In this paper, we describe a new weighted interpolation method operating between neighboring RF A-lines for high precision tracking of the lateral displacement. Due to this high lateral-tracking precision, quality lateral elastograms are generated that display the lateral component of the strain tensor. These precision lateral-displacement estimates allow a fine correction for the lateral decorrelation that corrupts the axial estimation. Finally, by dividing the lateral elastogram by the axial elastogram, we are able to produce a new image that displays the distribution of Poisson's ratios in the tissue. Results are presented from finite-element simulations and phantoms as well as in vitro and in vivo experiments.  相似文献

The accuracy and precision of the strain estimates in elastography depend on a myriad number of factors. A clear understanding of the various factors (noise sources) that plague strain estimation is essential to obtain quality elastograms. The nonstationary variation in the performance of the strain filter due to frequency-dependent attenuation and lateral and elevational signal decorrelation are analyzed in this and the companion paper for the cross-correlation-based strain estimator. In this paper, we focus on the role of frequency-dependent attenuation in the performance of the strain estimator. The reduction in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNRs) in the RF signal, and the center frequency and bandwidth downshift with frequency-dependent attenuation are incorporated into the strain filter formulation. Both linear and nonlinear frequency dependence of attenuation are theoretically analyzed. Monte-Carlo simulations are used to corroborate the theoretically predicted results. Experimental results illustrate the deterioration in the precision of the strain estimates with depth in a uniformly elastic phantom. Theoretical, simulation and experimental results indicate the importance of high SNRs values in the RF signals, because the strain estimation sensitivity, elastographic SNRe and dynamic range deteriorate rapidly with a decrease in the SNRs. In addition, a shift in the strain filter toward higher strains is observed at large depths in tissue due to the center frequency downshift.  相似文献
