The purpose of this study is to develop a radiation distribution monitor using a normal plastic optical fiber. The monitor has a long operating length and can obtain continuous radiation distributions. A principle of the position sensing is based on a time-of-flight technique. The monitor is sensitive to beta rays or charged particles, gamma rays, and fast neutrons. The spatial resolutions for beta-rays ( 90Sr-90Y), gamma-rays (137Cs), and D-T neutrons are 30, 37, and 13 cm, respectively. The detection efficiencies for the beta-rays, gamma-rays, and D-T neutrons are 0.11%, 1.6×10 -5% and 1.2×10-4%, respectively. The effective attenuation length of the detection efficiency is 18 m. Ag/Al2O3 catalysts prepared from boehmite needles (ca. 10 nm×100 nm), which were formed by a hydrolysis of aluminium tri-isopropoxide (AIP), showed good performances for selective catalytic reduction of NOx compared with the previously reported catalysts [N. Aoyama, K. Yoshida, A. Abe, T. Miyadera, Catal. Lett. 43 (1997) 249], especially when ethanol is employed as a reducing agent in the presence of water. Temperature programmed reduction (TPR) study revealed that the Ag species are attractively interacted with the alumina surface and the oxidized Ag species contribute positively for the improvement of the catalytic activity at the temperatures above 750 K. It is concluded that the boehmite needles as a precursor of alumina support are useful to create the catalytically active sites for NOx reduction.  相似文献

Estrogen sulfotransferase (EST) catalyzes transfer of the 5'-sulfuryl group of adenosine 3'-phosphate 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS) to the 3alpha-phenol group of estrogenic steroids such as estradiol (E2). The recent crystal structure of EST-adenosine 3', 5'-diphosphate (PAP)- E2 complex has revealed that residues Lys48, Thr45, Thr51, Thr52, Lys106, His108, and Try240 are in position to play a catalytic role in the sulfuryl transfer reaction of EST (Kakuta Y., Pedersen, L. G., Carter, C. W., Negishi, M., and Pedersen, L. C. (1997) Nat. Struct. Biol. 4, 904-908). Mutation of Lys48, Lys106, or His108 nearly abolishes EST activity, indicating that they play a critical role in catalysis. A present 2.2-A resolution structure of EST-PAP-vanadate complex indicates that the vanadate molecule adopts a trigonal bipyramidal geometry with its equatorial oxygens coordinated to these three residues. The apical positions of the vanadate molecule are occupied by a terminal oxygen of the 5'-phosphate of PAP (2.1 A) and a possible water molecule (2. 3 A). This water molecule superimposes well to the 3alpha-phenol group of E2 in the crystal structure of the EST.PAP.E2 complex. These structures are characteristic of the transition state for an in-line sulfuryl transfer reaction from PAPS to E2. Moreover, residues Lys48, Lys106, and His108 are found to be coordinated with the vanadate molecule at the transition state of EST.  相似文献

The second-order nonlinear optical properties of aromatic polyureas are reported. From Maker fringe measurements, the nonlinear d/sub 33/ coefficient of poled polyurea films with and without pendant chromophores was found to be 20*10/sup -9/ esu and 12*10/sup -9/ esu, respectively, at 1.064 mu m. Aromatic polyurea having no pendant chromophores shows a cutoff wavelength of transmission at 307 nm which is the first example of organic NLO materials to be optically transparent at such low wavelengths.<>  相似文献

Additive effects of glass powder upon the product yields and chlorine distribution after liquefaction of hydrothermally pretreated mixed waste (HMW) are compared with liquefaction of HMW with any one of water, quartz sand, or glass powder plus water. As a result, addition of either water or quartz sand did not affect liquefaction and dechlorination of HMW. Further, water (5 g) addition did not enhance liquefaction and dechlorination of HMW with glass powder. On the other hand, after liquefaction of HMW with glass powder, the yields of chlorine in the gas and water insoluble constituents decreased and the chlorine yield in the water-soluble constituent increased significantly. Because sodium in glass powder dissolved in a small amount (0.5 g) of water resulted from dehydration of HMW during liquefaction. Further, hydrogen chloride derived from polyvinylchloride in HMW was neutralized by ion exchange between H(+) and Na(+) dissolved in a small amount of water forming NaCl in the Residue (water-soluble) constituent. Therefore, most of chlorine in HMW was removed easily by water extraction of the Residue constituent after liquefaction of HMW with glass powder. Further, upgrading of HMW into the oil constituent was enhanced due to inhibition of production of chlorine containing organic compounds. Accordingly, it was clarified that glass powder was the most effective additive for liquefaction and dechlorination of HMW.  相似文献

Two types of pure-silica-core fibers (one low-OH, Al-jacketed, one medium-OH, polyimide jacketed) suitable for use as sensing fibers for Raman-scattering-based temperature measurements in nuclear environments have been subjected to gamma and fission reactor irradiation tests. Spectral attenuation measurements were performed between 500 and 1500 nm with samples kept at room temperature, 80 and 300/spl deg/C. The Al-jacketed fiber was developed for use under ionizing radiation and showed lower loss compared with the polyimide-jacketed fiber at room temperature under gamma irradiation. Both fiber types showed similar spectra at room temperature with the main part of the loss originating from a band tail extending from the ultraviolet. Thermal bleaching of the radiation-induced defects was found to be effective in both fiber types. At 80/spl deg/C the loss in both fibers was compounded of a band at 625 nm together with the band tail from the ultraviolet, which now had a strength several times lower compared with room-temperature irradiations. At 300/spl deg/C, both fibers exhibited similar low-loss spectra, except for the band at 625 nm which reached levels of approximately /spl sim/2000 dB/km at an accumulated dose of 2.8/spl times/10/sup 4/ Gy(SiO/sub 2/). In light of the experimental spectral findings, selection of suitable Raman-distributed temperature sensors for nuclear plants can be made.  相似文献

This paper presents a new algorithm to find an appropriate similarityunder which we apply legal rules analogically. Since there may exist a lotof similarities between the premises of rule and a case in inquiry, we haveto select an appropriate similarity that is relevant to both thelegal rule and a top goal of our legal reasoning. For this purpose, a newcriterion to distinguish the appropriate similarities from the others isproposed and tested. The criterion is based on Goal-DependentAbstraction (GDA) to select a similarity such that an abstraction basedon the similarity never loses the necessary information to prove the ground (purpose of legislation) of the legal rule. In order to cope withour huge space of similarities, our GDA algorithm uses some constraintsto prune useless similarities.  相似文献

A series of 2H- and 13C-labeled glutamates were used as substrates for coenzyme B12-dependent glutamate mutase, which equilibrates (S)-glutamate with (2S,3S)-3-methylaspartate. These compounds contained the isotopes at C-2, C-3, or C-4 of the carbon chain: [2-2H], [3,3-2H2], [4,4-2H2], [2,3,3,4,4-2H5], [2-13C], [3-13C], and [4-13C]glutamate. Each reaction was monitored by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and revealed a similar signal characterized by g'xy = 2.1, g'z = 1.985, and A' = 5.0 mT. The interpretation of the spectral data was aided by simulations which gave close agreement with experiment. This approach underpinned the idea of the formation of a radical pair, consisting of cob(II)alamin interacting with an organic radical at a distance of 6.6 +/- 0.9 A. Comparison of the hyperfine couplings observed with unlabeled glutamate with those from the labeled glutamates enabled a principal contributor to the radical pair to be identified as the 4-glutamyl radical. These findings support the currently accepted mechanism for the glutamate mutase reaction, i.e., the process is initiated through hydrogen atom abstraction from C-4 of glutamate by the 5'-deoxyadenosyl radical, which is derived by homolysis of the Co-C sigma-bond of coenzyme B12.  相似文献

This paper describes the basic concepts, design and implementation decisions, standpoints and significance of the database machine Delta in the scope of Japan’s Fifth Generation Computer Project. Delta is planned to be operational in 1985 for researchers’ use as a backend database machine for logic programming software development. Delta is basically a relational database machine system. It combines hardware facilities for efficient relational database operations, which are typically represented by relational algebra, and software which deals with hardware control and actual database management requirements. Notable features include attribute-based internal schema in accordance with the characteristics found in the relation access from logic programming environment. This is also useful for the hardware relational algebra manipulation algorithm based on merge-sorting of attributes by hardware and a large capacity Semiconductor Disk for fast access to databases. Various implementation decisions of database management requirements are made in this novel system configuration, which will be meaningful to give an example for constructing a hardware and software combination of a relational database machine. Delta is in the stage between detailed design and implementation.  相似文献
