Effect of the structure of weld metal on the pitting susceptibility of welded joints of ferritic-austenitic steel

The structure of welded joints of tubes from ferritic-austenitic steel 02Kh22N5AM3 is studied by methods of metallographic, x-ray diffraction, and electron microscopic analyses. Corrosion properties of welded joints are determined in pitting tests. Tests in an MR reactor of experimental fuel elements of the VVÉR-1000 reactor

Conclusions In an MR reactor performance tests of 16 fuel assemblies, with elements having essentially the same structure as standard VVÉR-100 fuel elements, were carried out. Tests of five more fuel assemblies are continuing. Of the 16 assemblies, 13 were studied in a hot laboratory.The tests in the MR, carried out at high loads and with a large number of transition processes, as well as the postreactor studies, indicated that fuel elements of the specified design (with initial helium pressures of 1.96–2.45 MPa) have a high reliability. None of the elements of the fuel assemblies studied malfunctioned due to design defects or faults in their fabrication. During the tests the jackets were subject to a little oxidation and hydrogenation (zirconium-oxide film<3 m thick, hydrogen content less than 0.008% by mass), and their plasticity remained high (the relative elongation at the working temperature remained at the 20% level).Translated from Atomnaya Énergiya, Vol. 62, No. 5, pp. 312–317, May, 1987.     

Influence of turbulence on the static characteristics of conical journal bearings

Analytical formulas are presented for the static characteristics of conical hydrodynamic and hydrostatic bearings, with variable thermophysical properties and a two-phase lubricant, when turbulence is disregarded or taken into account.     

Possibilities for controlling the characteristics of nitride and carbonitirde inclusions in a low-carbon austenitic steel

The mechanisms of formation of nonmetallic inclusions in a stabilized low-carbon austenitic steel Ch-68id are studied. Technologies for controlling the sizes and distribution of the nonmetallic inclusions are suggested.     

Characteristics of an asynchronous motor with side wedging of a rotor bar

Calculation results of the static and dynamic characteristics of asynchronous motors with a squirrel-cage rotor at different radial arrangements and dimensions of the rotor’s slot side wedge are presented, and recommendations for the arrangement and choice of side wedge dimensions are given.
