This report describes the use of 99mtechnetium pertechnetate (99mTcO4) and 131[for imaging of a metastatic thyroid carcinoma in a dog. The 131] imaging showed metastatic lesions undetected by the 99mTcO4 imaging on 2 separate occasions. The possible mechanisms for the discrepancies between 131I and 99mTcO4 imaging of thyroid carcinomas are discussed. The use of 131I for the imaging of functional thyroid carcinomas in the dog is recommended.  相似文献

This paper reviews the main networks of fruit fly trapping worldwide. The general result highlights the global effectiveness of large and structured fruit fly surveillance networks established according to current international standards. However, there is a considerable contrast among national approaches, depending mainly on the frequency of fruit fly detections. The cost of surveillance networks is high and frequently constitutes a limiting factor for their correct implementation according to the recommended standards. This highlights the importance of research to improve the effectiveness of trapping systems (which refers to the combination of an attractant, a dispenser and a type of trap). A cost‐benefit analysis to compare the actual cost of surveillance with a no‐surveillance strategy and the cost of expected damage would be a promising tool. Ideally, such analysis should take into account the complex of tephritid species already present in a given country and the estimated cost of increased damage on fruit production or increased control costs.  相似文献

Long-range interactions in quantum gases are predicted to give rise to an excitation spectrum of roton character, similar to that observed in superfluid helium. We investigated the excitation spectrum of a Bose-Einstein condensate with cavity-mediated long-range interactions, which couple all particles to each other. Increasing the strength of the interaction leads to a softening of an excitation mode at a finite momentum, preceding a superfluid-to-supersolid phase transition. We used a variant of Bragg spectroscopy to study the mode softening across the phase transition. The measured spectrum was in very good agreement with ab initio calculations and, at the phase transition, a diverging susceptibility was observed. The work paves the way toward quantum simulation of long-range interacting many-body systems.  相似文献

Kirtland’s warblers (Dendroica kirtlandii) persist in a naturally patchy environment of young, regenerating jack pine forests (i.e., 5–23 years old) created after wildfires and human logging activities. We examined how changing landscape structure from 26 years of forest management and wildfire disturbances influenced population size and spatial dispersion of male Kirtland’s warblers within their restricted breeding range in northern Lower Michigan, USA. The male Kirtland’s warbler population was six times larger in 2004 (1,322) compared to 1979 (205); the change was nonlinear with 1987 and 1994 identified as significant points of change. In 1987, the population trend began increasing after a slowly declining trend prior to 1987, and the rate of increase appeared to slow after 1994. Total amount of suitable habitat and the relative area of wildfire-regenerated habitat were the most important factors explaining population trend. Suitable habitat increased 149% primarily due to increasing plantations from forest management. The relative amount and location of wildfire-regenerated habitat modified the distribution of males among various habitat types, and the spatial variation in their abundance across the primary breeding range. These findings indicate that the Kirtland’s warbler male population shifted its use of habitat types temporally and spatially as the population increased and as the relative availability of habitats changed through time. We demonstrate that researchers and managers need to consider not only habitat quality, but the temporal and the spatial context of habitat availability and population levels when making habitat restoration decisions.  相似文献

In this study, the functional properties of A‐ and B‐type wheat starch granules from two commercial wheat flours were investigated for digestibility in vitro, chemical composition (e.g., amylose, protein, and ash content), gelatinization, retrogradation, and pasting properties. The branch chain length and chain length distribution of these A‐ and B‐type wheat starch granules were also determined using high‐performance anion exchange chromatography (HPAEC). Wheat starches with different granular sizes not only had different degrees of enzymatic hydrolysis and thermal and pasting properties, but also different molecular characteristics. Different amylose content, protein content, and branch chain length of amylopectin in A‐ and B‐type wheat starch granules could also be the major factors besides granular size for different digestibility and other functional properties of starch. The data indicate that different wheat cultivars with different proportion of A‐ and B‐type granular starch could result in different digestibility in wheat products.  相似文献

Fungal communities in soils of Nigerian maize fields were examined to determine distributions of aflatoxin-producing fungi and to identify endemic atoxigenic strains of potential value as biological control agents for limiting aflatoxin contamination in West African crops. Over 1000 isolates belonging to Aspergillus section Flavi were collected from soil of 55 Nigerian maize fields located in three agroecological zones by dilution plating onto modified Rose Bengal agar. The most common member of Aspergillus section Flavi (85% of isolates) was the A. flavus L-strain followed by the unnamed taxon known as strain SBG (8%), A. tamarii (6%) and A. parasiticus (1%). Highest incidence of SBG was in Zaria district, and lowest was in Ogbomosho and Ado-Ekiti districts. Only 44% of 492 A. flavus isolates produced aflatoxins in liquid fermentation (limit of detection 5 ng g−1). Thirty-two percent of the A. flavus isolates produced >1 μg g−1 total aflatoxins but no A. flavus isolate produced G aflatoxins. When the agroecological zones were compared, significantly (P < 0.05) greater proportions of aflatoxigenic A. flavus isolates were found in the Northern Guinea Savannah (61%) than in Southern Guinea Savannah (31%). The Derived Savannah was intermediate between the other two agroecological zones. Each of the regions had atoxigenic strains of potential value as biological control agents. All SBG and A. parasiticus isolates produced both B and G aflatoxins and greater than 300 μg g−1 total aflatoxins. SBG and A. parasiticus isolates were the greatest contributors to the aflatoxin-producing potential of fungal communities in regions where these isolates occurred.  相似文献

This paper provides reviews of the most commonly used methods to detect plant pests belonging to groups of invasive organisms with high economic relevance, including Coleoptera (bark beetles, flathead borers, leaf beetles, longhorn beetles, weevils), Diptera (cone and seed flies, fruit flies), Homoptera (aphids, leafhoppers and psyllids, whiteflies), Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies), Thysanoptera (thrips), bacteria (potato brown rot Ralstonia solanacearum) and fungi (pitch canker disease Gibberella circinata, brown rot disease Monilinia fructicola). Future perspectives in detection methods are discussed, with particular reference to the considerable increase in the volume, commodity type and origins of trade in plant material from third countries, the introduction of new crops, the continuous expansion of the EU with new border countries being added, and the impact of climate change affecting the geographical boundaries of pests and their vectors.  相似文献

Cavity optomechanics studies the coupling between a mechanical oscillator and the electromagnetic field in a cavity. We report on a cavity optomechanical system in which a collective density excitation of a Bose-Einstein condensate serves as the mechanical oscillator coupled to the cavity field. A few photons inside the ultrahigh-finesse cavity trigger strongly driven back-action dynamics, in quantitative agreement with a cavity optomechanical model. We approach the strong coupling regime of cavity optomechanics, where a single excitation of the mechanical oscillator substantially influences the cavity field. The results open up new directions for investigating mechanical oscillators in the quantum regime and the border between classical and quantum physics.  相似文献

Forty male adolescent Sprague-Dawley rats were anesthetized and standardized ventral midline laparotomies and uniform-length gastrotomies and typhlotomies were performed. The visceral and abdominal surgically inflicted wounds were closed with 5-0 polypropylene and 4-0 nylon suture, respectively. The rats were allotted into 4 groups (10 rats/group); 2 groups were not given flunixin meglumine (controls) and 2 groups were given flunixin meglumine (1.1 mg/kg of body weight, IM, every 12 hours). On day 5 and again on day 14 after surgery, 1 control and 1 flunixin meglumine-treated group were euthanatized. Tensile strength of the skin and linea alba incisions was determined, using a computerized tensiometer. Gastric and cecal incision bursting strengths were determined, using a pressure manometer. Flunixin meglumine significantly (P less than 0.05) decreased the tensile strength of wounds in the skin and linea alba, but did not affect visceral bursting strength at day 5 after surgery. At day 14 after surgery, a significant difference in wound strength was not found between the flunixin meglumine and control groups in any of the tissues evaluated. Flunixin meglumine had an adverse influence on the inflammatory stage of wound repair, but not on the proliferative stage, when fibroplasia is a major factor in wound strength. Major histologic differences were not found in the incision wounds of flunixin meglumine-treated and nontreated control rats.  相似文献
