The accurate analysis of multimode interference (MMI) devices with two-dimensional (2-D) confinement has been demonstrated by using the least squares boundary residual (LSBR) method. Accurate modal propagation constants and spatial field profiles in the MMI section are obtained by using the vector H-field based finite element method. The accurate calculation of the excited modal coefficients is achieved by using the LSBR, which satisfies the continuity of the transverse field components more rigorously than using simple overlap integrals 相似文献

This paper presents novel algorithms which are able to generate recommendations within a heterogeneous service environment. In this work explicitly set preferences as well as implicitly logged viewing behavior are employed to generate recommendations for Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) content. This paper also discusses the similarity between the DVB genres and YouTube categories. In addition it presents results to show the comparison between well known collaborative filtering methods. The outcome of this comparison study is used to identify the most suitable filtering method to use in the proposed environment. Finally the paper presents a novel Personal Program Guide (PPG), which is used as a tool to visualize the generated recommendations within a heterogeneous service environment. This PPG is also capable of showing the linear DVB content and the non-linear YouTube videos in a single view. 相似文献

Design issues such as optical transmission, interference mechanisms, the splitting ratio, the polarization dependence, and the fabrication tolerances of a compact parabolically tapered multimode-interference (MMI)-based 3-dB power splitter on an InP-based deeply etched ridge waveguide, by use of the finite-element-based beam-propagation method, are presented. The benefits and drawbacks of the use of the tapered structure, in comparison with an untapered MMI-based 3-dB splitter, have also been investigated. 相似文献

The present study was aimed to investigate the cognitive enhancing and anti-oxidant activities of Inonotus obliquus (Chaga) against scopolamine-induced experimental amnesia. Methanolic extract of Chaga (MEC) at 50 and 100 mg kg (-1)doses were administered orally for 7 days to amnesic mice. Learning and memory was assessed by passive avoidance task (PAT) and Morris water maze (MWM) test. Tacrine (THA, 10 mg kg (-1), orally (p.o)) used as a reference drug. To elucidate the mechanism of the cognitive enhancing activity of MEC, the activities of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), anti-oxidant enzymes, the levels of acetylcholine (ACh) and nitrite of mice brain homogenates were evaluated. MEC treatment for 7 days significantly improved the learning and memory as measured by PAT and MWM paradigms. Further, MEC significantly reduced the oxidative-nitritive stress, as evidenced by a decrease in malondialdehyde and nitrite levels and restored the glutathione and superoxide dismutase levels in a dose dependent manner. In addition, MEC treatment significantly decreased the AChE activity in both the salt and detergent-soluble fraction of brain homogenates. Further, treatment with MEC restored the levels of ACh as did THA. Thus, the significant cognitive enhancement observed in mice after MEC administration is closely related to higher brain anti-oxidant properties and inhibition of AChE activity. These findings stress the critical impact of Chaga, a medicinal mushroom, on the higher brain functions like learning and memory. 相似文献

Scope : We hypothesized that curcumin, a potent anti‐oxidant, might be beneficial in ameliorating the development of diabetic nephropathy through inhibition of PKC‐α and PKC‐β1 activity‐ERK1/2 pathway. Methods and results : Diabetes was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) (55 mg/kg) in rats. Three weeks after STZ injection, rats were divided into three groups, namely, normal, diabetic and diabetic treated with curcumin at 100 mg/kg/day, p.o., for 8 wk. At 11 wk after STZ injection, diabetic rats exhibited renal dysfunction, as evidenced by reduced creatinine clearance, increased blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and proteinuria, marked increases in lipid peroxidation, NOX4 and p67phox and decrease in anti‐oxidant enzyme. All of these abnormalities were significantly reversed by curcumin. Furthermore, the high‐glucose‐induced PKC‐α and PKC‐β1 activities and phosphorylated ERK1/2 was significantly diminished by curcumin. Curcumin also attenuated the expression of TGF‐β1, CTGF, osteopontin, p300 and ECM proteins such as fibronectin and type IV collagen. The high‐glucose‐induced expression of VEGF and its receptor VEGF receptor II (flk‐1) was also ameliorated by curcumin. Conclusion : These results prove that curcumin produces dual blockade of both PKC‐α and PKC‐β1 activities, which suggests that curcumin is a potential adjuvant therapy for the prevention and treatment of diabetic nephropathy. 相似文献

Pyoderma gangrenosum in a twenty-nine-year-old woman with associated long-standing Crohn's disease was treated with topical 5-aminosalicylic acid cream. Significant improvement in the ulceration occurred despite progressive deterioration of the inflammatory bowel disease. The possible mode of action is reviewed. The efficacy, together with the lack of side effects, warrants further study into the therapeutic role of topical 5-aminosalicylic acid. 相似文献

In this paper an improved design for a short and low-loss polarization rotator is proposed, consisting of a single-section asymmetrical waveguide butt-coupled between two standard rib waveguides. At a wavelength of 1.55 μm, nearly 100% polarization conversion ratio is obtained, with a relatively short (320 μm) device length and an extremely low 0.5 dB total insertion loss. Chromium(VI) is a common heavy metal pollutant and extensively used in variety of industrial processes. In the present study, bismuth oxide–zirconium oxide nanocomposite (Bi2O3–ZrO2) was synthesized to improve photoreduction of Cr(VI) under visible light irradiation. The synthesized photocatalyst was characterized by UV-visible-diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis-DRS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (B.E.T) surface area analysis and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). Bi2O3–ZrO2 was found to be more photoactive than Bi2O3, ZrO2, TiO2 and ZnO for the reduction of Cr (VI). The influences of various reaction parameters like the effect of catalyst concentration, initial Cr(VI) concentration and addition of inorganic salts on the photocatalytic activity have been investigated in detail. Meanwhile, the stability of Bi2O3–ZrO2 was investigated by repeatedly performing Cr(VI) photoreducing experiments. 相似文献
