This paper presents a stereo vision system for the detection and distance computation of a preceding vehicle. It is divided in two major steps. Initially, a stereo vision-based algorithm is used to extract relevant three-dimensional (3-D) features in the scene, these features are investigated further in order to select the ones that belong to vertical objects only and not to the road or background. These 3-D vertical features are then used as a starting point for preceding vehicle detection; by using a symmetry operator, a match against a simplified model of a rear vehicle's shape is performed using a monocular vision-based approach that allows the identification of a preceding vehicle. In addition, using the 3-D information previously extracted, an accurate distance computation is performed.  相似文献

This paper presents an evolutionary approach able to process a digital image and detect tracks left by preceding vehicles on ice and snow in Antarctica. Biologically inspired by a colony of ants able to interact and cooperate to determine the shortest path to the food, this approach is based on autonomous agents moving along the image pixels and iteratively improving an initial coarse solution. The unfriendly Antarctic environment makes this image analysis problem extremely challenging, since light reflections, abruptly varying brightness conditions, and different terrain slopes must be considered as well. The ant-based approach is compared to a more traditional Hough-based solution and the results are discussed.  相似文献

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a large class of RNAs with regulatory functions within cells. We recently showed that circSMARCA5 is a tumor suppressor in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and acts as a decoy for Serine and Arginine Rich Splicing Factor 1 (SRSF1) through six predicted binding sites (BSs). Here we characterized RNA motifs functionally involved in the interaction between circSMARCA5 and SRSF1. Three different circSMARCA5 molecules (Mut1, Mut2, Mut3), each mutated in two predicted SRSF1 BSs at once, were obtained through PCR-based replacement of wild-type (WT) BS sequences and cloned in three independent pcDNA3 vectors. Mut1 significantly decreased its capability to interact with SRSF1 as compared to WT, based on the RNA immunoprecipitation assay. In silico analysis through the “Find Individual Motif Occurrences” (FIMO) algorithm showed GAUGAA as an experimentally validated SRSF1 binding motif significantly overrepresented within both predicted SRSF1 BSs mutated in Mut1 (q-value = 0.0011). U87MG and CAS-1, transfected with Mut1, significantly increased their migration with respect to controls transfected with WT, as revealed by the cell exclusion zone assay. Immortalized human brain microvascular endothelial cells (IM-HBMEC) exposed to conditioned medium (CM) harvested from U87MG and CAS-1 transfected with Mut1 significantly sprouted more than those treated with CM harvested from U87MG and CAS-1 transfected with WT, as shown by the tube formation assay. qRT-PCR showed that the intracellular pro- to anti-angiogenic Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGFA) mRNA isoform ratio and the amount of total VEGFA mRNA secreted in CM significantly increased in Mut1-transfected CAS-1 as compared to controls transfected with WT. Our data suggest that GAUGAA is the RNA motif responsible for the interaction between circSMARCA5 and SRSF1 as well as for the circSMARCA5-mediated control of GBM cell migration and angiogenic potential.  相似文献

In this paper, the Causal Recursive Back-Propagation (CRBP) algorithm is employed to train on-line an Infinite Impulse Response–Locally Recurrent Neural Network (IIR–LRNN) for modelling the dynamics of a next-generation nuclear reactor. Hydrogen production using the Cristina process coupled to a dedicated central receiver solar system has been studied. The Cristina process was originally conceived and developed at the Joint Research Center of the European Communities in Ispra to decompose the sulfuric acid and produce the sulfur dioxide necessary for hydrogen production. In the present study, the process has been adopted to an intermittently operating solar heat source to produce the sulfur dioxide during sunshine hours and operate in reverse as a sulfuric acid synthesis process at a required rate to produce high temperature heat during night operation by using a small part of the stored sulfur dioxide. In this manner, the chemical process is operated continuously, hence, thermal inertia and start-up problems have been eliminated.A system has been conceived to produce 106 mole SO2 per hour, which is coupled to a central receiver solar system producing 106 GJ per year heat operating 2333 hrs per year. The system produces 0.62 × 106 GJ hydrogen per year when coupled to a hydrogen producing step such as Mark 11 or 13 operating 7000 hrs per year and using electric energy supplied from outside.It has been found that the cost of sulfuric acid decomposition by the solar Cristina process is approximately 31 $ per GJ hydrogen. Including the cost of solar heat (approximately 32 $ per GJ hydrogen) and that of hydrogen producing step (approximately 5 $ per GJ hydrogen), the total cost has been estimated to be 68 $ per GJ hydrogen.  相似文献

A new method for more timely monitoring of cancer patient survival was employed to assess progress in 5-year survival of breast cancer patients in Saarland, Germany, between 1980-84 and 1990-94. Five-year relative survival gradually increased from 68.8% to 73.5%. Improvements were most pronounced among age groups 50-59 and 60-69. The latter had the highest 5-year relative survival (77.1%) in 1990-94.  相似文献
