A method to model tropospheric radiowave propagation over land in the presence of range-dependent refractivity is presented. The terrain parabolic equation model (TPEM), is based on the split-step Fourier algorithm to solve the parabolic wave equation, which has been shown to be numerically efficient. Comparisons between TPEM, other terrain models (SEKE, GTD, FDPEM), and experimental data show predominantly excellent agreement. TPEM is also compared to results from an experiment in the Arizona desert in which range-dependent refractive conditions were measured. This work presents new stabilised finite element methods for a bending moments formulation of the Reissner-Mindlin plate model. The introduction of the bending moment as an extra unknown leads to a new weak formulation, where the symmetry of this variable is imposed strongly in the space. This weak problem is proved to be well-posed, and stabilised Galerkin schemes for its discretisation are presented and analysed. The finite element methods are such that the bending moment tensor is sought in a finite element space constituted of piecewise linear continuos and symmetric tensors. Optimal error estimates are proved, and these findings are illustrated by representative numerical experiments. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Mexico is a large developing country, much of which is arid and semiarid. With a population of more than 81 million, Mexico is confronted with growing water scarcity and serious pollution of much of its surface water The National Water Commission (Comision Nacional del Agua—CNA) has embarked on a major program of modernization of water management. The water quality program, now consisting of 564 surface water stations (plus 239 groundwater stations), has no strategic design, has major data gaps, is not representative of important areas, is often unreliable, does not contain data for many current issues such as organic contaminants, and suffers from out-of-date or lack of facilities. Because the existing network is not representative of the range of issues for which data are needed, network redesign began from first principles rather than as an optimization of the existing network. The new program is built around client needs, and uses four components—a primary network of some 200 stations that are designed to characterize important water bodies over the long term; a flexible secondary network that focuses on effluent regulatory issues; surveys and special studies for river basin planning and issue-specijic purposes; and a mobile emergency capability. Modernization of the water quality program also includes parallel activities focusing on training, institutional, and legal issues. 相似文献

Computer Supported Collaborative Learning is a pedagogical approach that can be used for deploying educational games in the classroom. However, there is no clear understanding as to which technological platforms are better suited for deploying co-located collaborative games, nor the general affordances that are required. In this work we explore two different technological platforms for developing collaborative games in the classroom: one based on augmented reality technology and the other based on multiple-mice technology. In this paper we deal with the application of differential inclusions to modeling nonlinear dynamical systems under uncertainty in parameters. In this case, differential inclusions seem to be better suited to modeling practical situations under uncertainty and imprecision than formulations by means of fuzzy differential equations. We develop a practical algorithm to approximate the reachable sets of a class of nonlinear differential inclusion, which eludes the computational problems of a previous set-valued version of the Heun’s method. Our algorithm is based on a complete discretization (time and state space) of the differential inclusion and it suits hardware features, handling the memory used by the method in a controlled fashion during all iterations. As a case of study, we formulate a differential inclusion to model an epidemic outbreak of dengue fever under Cuban conditions. The model takes into account interaction of human and mosquito populations as well as vertical transmission in the mosquito population. It is studied from the theoretical point of view to apply the Practical Algorithm. Also, we estimate the temporal evolution of the different human and mosquito populations given by the model in the Dengue 3 epidemic in Havana 2001, through the computation of the reachable sets using the Practical Algorithm. 相似文献

Research trends in gender differences in higher education and science: a co-word analysis 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The aim of this study is to map and analyze the structure and evolution of the scientific literature on gender differences in higher education and science, focusing on factors related to differences between 1991 and 2012. Co-word analysis was applied to identify the main concepts addressed in this research field. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to cluster the keywords and a strategic diagram was created to analyze trends. The data set comprised a corpus containing 652 articles and reviews published between 1991 and 2012, extracted from the Thomson Reuters Web of Science database. In order to see how the results changed over time, documents were grouped into three different periods: 1991–2001, 2002–2007, and 2008–2012. The results showed that the number of themes has increased significantly over the years and that gender differences in higher education and science have been considered by specific research disciplines, suggesting important research-field-specific variations. Overall, the study helps to identify the major research topics in this domain, as well as highlighting issues to be addressed or strengthened in further work. 相似文献

In hot strip mills, initial controller set points have to be calculated before the steel bar enters the mill. Calculations
rely on the good knowledge of rolling variables. Measurements are available only after the bar has entered the mill, and therefore
they have to be estimated. Estimation of process variables, particularly that of temperature, is of crucial importance for
the bar front section to fulfill quality requirements, and the same must be performed in the shortest possible time to preserve
heat. Currently, temperature estimation is performed by physical modeling; however, it is highly affected by measurement uncertainties,
variations in the incoming bar conditions, and final product changes. In order to overcome these problems, artificial intelligence
techniques such as artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic have been proposed. In this article, neural network-based systems,
including neural-based Gray-Box models, are applied to estimate scale breaker entry temperature, given its importance, and
their performance is compared to that of the physical model used in plant. Several neural systems and several neural-based
Gray-Box models are designed and tested with real data. Taking advantage of the flexibility of neural networks for input incorporation,
several factors which are believed to have influence on the process are also tested. The systems proposed in this study were
proven to have better performance indexes and hence better prediction capabilities than the physical models currently used

Super absorbent polymers of acrylic acid‐graphene oxide (PAA‐GO) were synthesized with different percentage of chemical neutralization (0, 10, and 20%) of the acrylic acid monomer before its polymerization. The influence of their swelling and adsorption/desorption capacity of cadmium ions in aqueous solutions were studied and revealed that the GO enables greater mechanical stability in the materials. The PAA hydrogels, with the same degrees of neutralization, were also prepared without GO to compare with the composites. Additionally, carbon paste electrodes (CPE) modified with the composites PAA‐GO were used to asses and compare their adsorption properties with cadmium(II). The anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) peak, in the differential pulse voltammetry mode, for cadmium oxidation was found to be influenced by the presence of GO into the polymer, and also by their percentage of neutralization. The accumulation of cadmium(II) on the surface of the modified CPEs was performed under open‐circuit conditions taking an account the preconcentration time of the metal cation. The presence of GO enhances the electrical signal of the electrodes in short times of immersion in cadmium(II) solutions. This property contributed to get linear responses of the CPEs modified with the composites, which were influenced by their degrees of neutralization. The PAA‐GO 10N electrode with 10% of neutralization combined the influence of GO and the degree of neutralization in the same matrix, and also showed good performance in terms of its mechanical stability, it was chosen for preliminary studies on the selectivity of the electrode toward Zn(II) and Cu(II). © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. There are more than 20,000 uncontrolled sanitary landfill areas in Brazil. The paper reports an integrated study undertaken
to develop an environmental assessment of the uncontrolled sanitary landfill area of the city of Po?os de Caldas, State of
Minas Gerais, Brazil. A number of remedial alternatives were evaluated. The USGS modular 3D finite difference groundwater
flow model (Modflow) and Modular 3D Finite Difference Mass Transport Model (MT3D) software were used to simulate groundwater
flow and contaminant transport modelling, as well as to predict changes due to the proposed remediation measures. The remedial
alternatives considered for normal conditions from 20 to 40 year periods were waste removal, vertical cut-off barriers, extraction
wells and top capping. The results indicated that extraction wells and waste removal are the best alternatives because they
significantly reduce both the extension and levels of the contamination plume even after 5 years. The extraction well proved
a less expensive remedial alternative than waste removal.
