Design and investigation of UV image detectors

The results of investigation of optical image detectors designed for the largest problem, near-VUV, range of the spectrum are presented. The possibility of using a dual-stage image detection system to appreciably lower the sensitivity threshold and make computer data processing feasible is considered. The integration of a UV module into a wideband image detector is studied.     

Chemical Mechanisms of Liquid–Liquid and Solid-Phase Extraction of Metal Chelates

Conditions of the liquid–liquid and solid-phase extraction of metal chelates are compared. The analogy and differences in the behavior of chelates and the effect of stability and partition constants on the completeness of the extraction of metals are discussed.     

Solid-phase extraction on alkyl-bonded silica gels in inorganic analysis.

Solid-phase extraction (SPE) is an effective tool for the preconcentration of trace elements and their separation from various sample constituents. Octadecyl and other alkyl-bonded silica gels are most widely used for these purposes. The fundamentals of the SPE of inorganic ions are reviewed and compared with those of related techniques (liquid-liquid extraction and reversed-phase liquid chromatography). The extraction of ions in the form of chelate compounds, inorganic salts solvated by neutral reagents, and ion-pair compounds is considered. Numerous applications of SPE to the separation and preconcentration of different elements and their species, including on-line combinations with instrumental determination techniques, are described and tabulated.     

Dynamics of intramolecular processes in electronic-excited states of 2,4,5-triarylimidazole molecules

Intramolecular processes in electronic-excited states of 2,4,5-triarylimidazole molecules were studied by femtosecond laser spectroscopy. Experiments were carried out with two types of compounds, namely, those experiencing intramolecular proton transfer and two model compounds in which it is impossible. Schemes of the processes studied were proposed and the characteristic rate constants were determined. The excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) in the molecules with planar structure of the reaction center is a very fast process (100 fs). If the reaction center has a nonplanar structure and, hence, the intramolecular hydrogen bond is weakened, the ESIPT time is determined by the time of conformational rearrangement of the molecule.     

Liquid-liquid extraction in inorganic analysis: current status and prospects

This review surveys the progress in inorganic liquid-liquid extraction in the last 25 years. Achievements are emphasized in the theoretical foundations of the method, and in the synthesis, characterization and application of new extractants. Special attention is paid to the implementation of extraction methods and to the automation of extractive separation. The combination of liquid-liquid extraction as a method of preconcentration with the methods of subsequent determination of trace concentrations of elements is described in detail.
