Calculation of the vibrational spectra of copper crystals with vacancies

The local vibrational spectra of copper crystals containing vacancies are calculated using the pair atomic potential derived in the framework of the resonance pseudopotential theory. The calculations are performed by a recursive method with due regard for the symmetry of the defect region. The frequencies of the vacancy-induced resonance vibrations of different symmetries are determined.     

Chemical composition and surface morphology of anodic alumina determined by electron microscopy and thermogravimetry

The results of the investigation of anodic aluminà (AA) by atomic force microscopy and differential thermal analysis depending on the electrolyte composition and anodization current density are presented. It has been revealed that the concentration of impurities in the form of electrolyte anions and hydration water the AA formed in a combined electrolyte is three times lower than the AA obtained in oxalate electrolyte. The roughness of the outer surfaces of the analyzed specimens is half that of the oxide obtained in a combined electrolyte. The correlation between the composition of the electrolyte, current density, and morphological parameters has been revealed.     

Experimental observations of mode-converted ion cyclotron waves in a tokamak plasma by phase contrast imaging

The process of mode conversion, whereby an externally launched electromagnetic wave converts into a shorter wavelength mode(s) in a thermal plasma near a resonance in the index of refraction, is particularly important in a multi-ion species plasma near the ion cyclotron frequency. Using phase contrast imaging techniques (PCI), mode-converted electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves have been detected for the first time in the Alcator C-Mod tokamak near the H-3He ion-ion hybrid resonance region during high power rf heating experiments. The results agree with theoretical predictions.     

A new family of heavy transition metal coordination compounds and its application,I. Design,synthesis and characterization of volatile organohafnium precursors

The first three representatives of a new family of volatile organohafnium compounds suitable as metallo-organic chemical vapour deposition precursors were synthesized. A combination of cyclopentadienyl and alkoxo-ligands with a bicyclo[2.2.1]heptanc framework was used. Volatility at relatively low temperatures for hafnium compounds was found and the precursors were characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (IR, ¹H and ¹³C NMR, mass spectrometry and mass-analysed ion kinetic energy spectroscopy). The outlook for use in hafnium functional materials synthesis was derived from the fragmentation data.     

Holography of wave packets

We describe the principles of holographic storage and reconstruction of ultrashort light pulses using spectrally nonselective media. This can be achieved by the application of a 3-D recording medium and by the holography of waves produced by spatial spectral decomposition of light pulses. We also describe various transformations of optical temporal signals based on holographic spectral filtering and nonlinear interaction of spectral decomposition waves.
