Augmentation of antioxidant defenses may help protect tissues against ischemia-reperfusion injury associated with operations involving cardiopulmonary bypass. In this study we examined the effect of pretreating patients with alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or placebo on injury to the myocardium. Seventy-six subjects undergoing elective coronary artery bypass grafting participated in a prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized trial, receiving either placebo or both 750 IU dl-alpha-tocopherol per day for 7 to 10 days and 1 gm ascorbic acid 12 hours before the operation. Plasma alpha-tocopherol concentrations, raised fourfold by supplementation, fell by 70% after the operation in the supplemented group and to negligible levels in the placebo group. There were no significant differences between the groups with respect to release of creatine kinase MB isoenzyme over 72 hours, nor in the reduction of the myocardial perfusion defect determined by thallium 201 uptake. Electrocardiography provided no evidence of a benefit from antioxidant supplementation. Thus the supplementation regimen prevented the depletion of the primary lipid soluble antioxidant in plasma, but provided no measurable reduction in myocardial injury after the operation. 相似文献

Most post-processors for boundary element (BE) analysis use an auxiliary domain mesh to display domain results, working against
the profitable modelling process of a pure boundary discretization. This paper introduces a novel visualization technique
which preserves the basic properties of the boundary element methods. The proposed algorithm does not require any domain discretization
and is based on the direct and automatic identification of isolines. Another critical aspect of the visualization of domain
results in BE analysis is the effort required to evaluate results in interior points. In order to tackle this issue, the present
article also provides a comparison between the performance of two different BE formulations (conventional and hybrid). In
addition, this paper presents an overview of the most common post-processing and visualization techniques in BE analysis,
such as the classical algorithms of scan line and the interpolation over a domain discretization. The results presented herein

Pine (Pinus morrisonicola Hayata) needles was tested for toxicity and mutagenicity by Ames test and reducing power and scavenging ability on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals. Based on the tests on Salmonella typhimurium TA97 and TA100, P. morrisonicola extract was not toxic and mutagenic. The reducing powers of P. morrisonicola extract and ascorbic acid were comparable with both effective concentration (EC50) values being 0.06 mg/mL. The extract was more effective in scavenging ability and EC50 values were 0.02 and 0.04 mg/mL for P. morrisonicola extract and ascorbic acid, respectively. With P. morrisonicola powder (50 mg/mL) added to the cultured saccharified broth at day 1, the wine with an ethanol content of 8.23% was produced at day 12. After 11 days of fermentation, the vinegar was obtained with an acidity of 5.21 g/100 mL. Accordingly, P. morrisonicola could be used in the development of alcoholic and vinegar products to provide its beneficial health effects. 相似文献

An advanced tokamak plasma configuration is developed based on equilibrium, ideal MHD stability, bootstrap current analysis, vertical stability and control, and poloidal field coil analysis. The plasma boundaries used in the analysis are forced to coincide with the 99% flux surface from the free-boundary equilibrium. Using an accurate bootstrap current model and external current drive profiles from ray tracing calculations in combination with optimized pressure profiles, βN values above 7.0 have been obtained. The minimum current drive requirement is found to lie at a lower βN of 6.0. The external kink mode is stabilized by a tungsten shell located at 0.33 times the minor radius and a feedback system. Plasma shape optimization has led to an elongation of 2.2 and triangularity of 0.9 at the separatrix. Vertical stability could be achieved by a combination of tungsten shells located at 0.33 times the minor radius and feedback control coils located behind the shield. The poloidal field coils were optimized in location and current, providing a maximum coil current of 8.6 MA. These developments have led to a simultaneous reduction in the power plant major radius and toroidal field from those found in a previous study [S.C. Jardin, C.E. Kessel, C.G. Bathke, D.A. Ehst, T.K. This paper concerns the development of statistical language models of the Slovenian language for use in an automatic speech recognition system. The proposed techniques are language-independent and can be applied to other highly inflected Slavic languages. The large number of unique words in inflected languages is identified as the primary reason for performance degradation. This article discusses the concept of word-formation in the Slovenian language, which is also common to all Slavic languages. The main problems are outlined for word-based language models. A novel variation on the N-gram modelling theme is examined where, instead of using words, modelling units are chosen to be stems and endings. Only data-driven algorithms are employed, which decompose words automatically. A significant reduction in the OOV rate results when using stems and endings for modelling the Slovenian language. The final part of this article focuses on building a speech recogniser. Two different decoding strategies have been employed: one-pass and two-pass search decoders. Language modelling experiments have been performed using the VEER newswire text corpus, and recognition experiments have been conducted using the SNABI Slovenian speech database. The new language model resulted in the reduction of the OOV rate by 64%, and the recognition accuracy was improved by 4.34%. 相似文献

To better understand the nature of the mechanism involved in the membrane uptake of a vector peptide, the interactions between dioleoylphosphatidylcholine and a primary amphipathic peptide containing a signal peptide associated with a nuclear localization sequence have been studied by isotherms analysis of mixed monolayers spread at the air-water interface. The peptide and the lipid interact through strong hydrophobic interactions with expansion of the mean molecular area that resulted from a lipid-induced modification of the organization of the peptide at the interface. In addition, a phase separation occurs for peptide molar fraction ranging from about 0.08 to 0.4 Atomic force microscopy observations made on transferred monolayers confirm the existence of phase separation and further reveal that mixed lipid-peptide particles are formed, the size and shape of which depend on the peptide molar fraction. At low peptide contents, round-shaped particles are observed and an increase of the peptide amount, simultaneously to the lipidic phase separation, induces morphological changes from bowls to filamentous particles. Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) obtained on transferred monolayers indicate that the peptide adopts a beta-like structure for high peptide molar fractions. Such an approach involving complementary methods allows us to conclude that the lipid and the peptide have a nonideal miscibility and form mixed particles which phase separate. 相似文献

The mycelia of Antrodia camphorata (Chang & Chou) Wu, Ryvarden & Chang were irradiated with gamma rays at doses of 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 kGy and the antioxidant properties of the methanolic extracts were studied. At 2.5 mg/ml, antioxidant activities of methanolic extracts from 10 to 20 kGy-irradiated mycelia were significantly higher than those of the non-irradiated control. Reducing powers of methanolic extracts from unirradiated and 0.5–7.5 kGy-irradiated mycelia were comparable except for the 20 kGy-irradiated mycelia. At 2.5 mg/ml, all methanolic extracts showed excellent scavenging abilities of 92.3–103% on DPPH radicals. Scavenging abilities of methanolic extracts from 2.5 to 20 kGy irradiated mycelia were better than that of the unirradiated control at 10 mg/ml. With irradiation at 5–20 kGy, mycelia possessed higher chelating ability on ferrous ions than did the unirradiated control. The EC50 values were below 15 mg/ml, except for values of scavenging ability of the unirradiated control on hydroxyl radicals. Total phenols were the major naturally occurring antioxidant components found in the range of 13.0–15.5 mg/g. In summary, γ-irradiation not only maintained the antioxidant properties of mycelia but also enhanced the antioxidant properties to some extent. 相似文献

Solid-state bioprocessing of soybean by Monascus is a biotechnological strategy to produce Monascus-fermented soybeans (MFS) with more beneficial components. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant properties of cold and hot water extracts from MFS as compared to uninoculated soybeans. With regard to the EC50 values of antioxidant activities, the effectiveness of cold water extracts was in a descending order: soybeans > MFS-31527 > MFS-31499 whereas that of the hot water extracts: soybeans ∼ MFS-31499 > MFS31527. Cold water extracts showed higher reducing power and lower scavenging ability on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals than hot water extracts. For both extracts, MFS and soybeans showed comparable effective chelating abilities on ferrous ions. Total phenols were the major naturally occurring antioxidant components found. For both extracts, soybeans were more effective in antioxidant activity and scavenging ability on DPPH radicals whereas MFS-31499 and MFS-31527 were more effective in reducing power and scavenging ability on hydroxyl radicals. Based on the results obtained, MFS-31499, MFS-31527 and soybeans were relatively effective in the antioxidant properties assayed and might be potential antioxidants for application in food products. 相似文献

Many real-world optimization problems are large-scale in nature. In order to solve these problems, an optimization algorithm
is required that is able to apply a global search regardless of the problems’ particularities. This paper proposes a self-adaptive
differential evolution algorithm, called jDElscop, for solving large-scale optimization problems with continuous variables.
The proposed algorithm employs three strategies and a population size reduction mechanism. The performance of the jDElscop
algorithm is evaluated on a set of benchmark problems provided for the Special Issue on the Scalability of Evolutionary Algorithms
and other Metaheuristics for Large Scale Continuous Optimization Problems. Non-parametric statistical procedures were performed
for multiple comparisons between the proposed algorithm and three well-known algorithms from literature. The results show
that the jDElscop algorithm can deal with large-scale continuous optimization effectively. It also behaves significantly better
