Implementation of some higher-order convection schemes on non-uniform grids

A generalized formulation is applied to implement the quadratic upstream interpolation (QUICK) scheme, the second-order upwind (SOU) scheme and the second-order hybrid scheme (SHYBRID) on non-uniform grids. The implementation method is simple. The accuracy and efficiency of these higher-order schemes on non-uniform grids are assessed. Three well-known bench mark convection-diffusion problems and a fluid flow problem are revisited using non-uniform grids. These are: (1) transport of a scalar tracer by a uniform velocity field; (2) heat transport in a recirculating flow; (3) two-dimensional non-linear Burgers equations; and (4) a two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes flow which is similar to the classical lid-driven cavity flow. The known exact solutions of the last three problems make it possible to thoroughly evaluate accuracies of various uniform and non-uniform grids. Higher accuracy is obtained for fewer grid points on non-uniform grids. The order of accuracy of the examined schemes is maintained for some tested problems if the distribution of non-uniform grid points is properly chosen.     

Development of a sensitive and reliable high performance liquid chromatography method with fluorescence detection for high-throughput analysis of multi-class mycotoxins in Coix seed

As an edible and medicinal plant, Coix seed is readily contaminated by more than one group of mycotoxins resulting in potential risk to human health. A reliable and sensitive method has been developed to determine seven mycotoxins (aflatoxins B₁, B₂, G₁, G₂, zearalenone, α-zearalenol, and β-zearalenol) simultaneously in 10 batches of Coix seed marketed in China. The method is based on a rapid ultrasound-assisted solid–liquid extraction (USLE) using methanol/water (80/20) followed by immunoaffinity column (IAC) clean-up, on-line photochemical derivatization (PCD), and high performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD). Careful optimization of extraction, clean-up, separation and detection conditions was accomplished to increase sample throughput and to attain rapid separation and sensitive detection. Method validation was performed by analyzing samples spiked at three different concentrations for the seven mycotoxins. Recoveries were from 73.5% to 107.3%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) lower than 7.7%. The intra- and inter-day precisions, expressed as RSDs, were lower than 4% for all studied analytes. Limits of detection and quantification ranged from 0.01 to 50.2 μg kg⁻¹, and from 0.04 to 125.5 μg kg⁻¹, respectively, which were below the tolerance levels for mycotoxins set by the European Union. Samples that tested positive were further analyzed by HPLC tandem electrospray ionization mass spectrometry for confirmatory purposes. This is the first application of USLE-IAC-HPLC-PCD-FLD for detecting the occurrence of multi-class mycotoxins in Coix seed.

研究了有机溶剂/缓冲液两相体系中重组大肠杆菌E.coli BL21 (DE3)全细胞水解动力学拆分外消旋环氧氯丙烷制备(R)-环氧氯丙烷的过程.结果表明,最适反应条件为:最适有机溶剂异辛烷与缓冲液的体积比7:3,最适缓冲液pH 8.0,底物浓度574mmol/L,全细胞加入量0.07g湿菌体/ml溶液,温度30℃.在此条件下于1L反应器中反应45min,(R)-环氧氯丙烷的摩尔产率、光学纯度和时空产率分别达到37.5%,99.3%ee和0.286mol/(L·h).与单一水相体系相比,异辛烷/缓冲液两相体系中底物浓度和(R)-环氧氯丙烷时空产率分别提高了55.2%和98.6%.     

Stereoselective Glycosidic Coupling Reactions of Fully Benzylated 1,2-Anhydro Sugars with N-Tosyl- or N-Benzyloxycarbonyl-l-serine Methyl Ester

Abstract

The glycosidic coupling reaction of 1,2-anhydro-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-β-d-mannopyranose (7), 1,2-anhydro-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-α-d-galactopyranose (21), and 1,2-anhydro-3,4-di-O-benzyl-α-d-xylopyranose (18) with N-tosyl- (10) or N-benzyloxycarbonyl- (11) L-serine methyl ester provides a new stereocontrolled synthesis of 1,2-trans linked glycopeptides. The 1,2-anhydro sugars are shown to react smoothyl with 10 or 11 in the presence of Lewis acid (ZnCl₂ or AgOTf) as well as powdered 4A molecular sieves in CH₂Cl₂ at room temperature to afford glycosyl serine derivatives with high stereoselectivity and high yield in less than 30 min. An improved method using 2-O-acetyl-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-α-d-mannopyranosyl chloride (6) as the key intermediate for ring closure was applied for the synthesis of 1,2-anhydro-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-β-d-mannopyranose.     

The synthesis and properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 thin films

The CaCu₃Ti₄O₁₂ (CCTO) thin films were synthesized via a metal‐organic solution containing stoichiometric amounts of the metal cations at 700 °C for 1 h. The stable metal‐organic solution was prepared by dissolving calcium nitrate, copper nitrate, and tetrabuty titanate in grain alcohol. The phases, microstructures, and electric properties of CCTO thin films were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscope, and electric measurements. The results show that the CCTO thin films have homogeneous microstructure, smooth surface, low leakage current, and high values of dielectric constant. The low leakage current can be attributed to the small surface roughness. The high value of dielectric constant can be attributed to the internal barrier layer capacitor mechanism and metal‐insulator‐semiconductor junction of CCTO thin films. Preference of sensory neural coding for 1/f signals

We investigated the influences of different types of temporal correlations in the input signal on the functions and coding properties of neurons in the primary visual cortex (V1). We found that the temporal transfer functions of V1 neurons exhibit higher gain, and the spike responses exhibit higher coding efficiency and information transmission rates, for the 1/f (natural long-term correlation) signals than for 1/f(0) (no correlation) and 1/f(2) (stronger long-term correlation) signals. These results suggest that the intermediate long-term correlation ubiquitous to natural signals may play an important role in shaping and optimizing the machinery of neurons in their adaptation to the natural environment.
