OBJECTIVE: To use the over-complete discrete wavelet transform (OCDWT) to further examine the dual structure of auditory brainstem response (ABR) in the dog. METHODS: ABR waveforms recorded from 20 adult dogs at supra-threshold (90 and 70dBnHL) and threshold (0-15dBSL) levels were decomposed using a six level OCDWT and reconstructed at individual scales (frequency ranges) A6 (0-391Hz), D6 (391-781Hz), and D5 (781-1563Hz). RESULTS: At supra-threshold stimulus levels, the A6 scale (0-391Hz) showed a large amplitude waveform with its prominent wave corresponding in latency with ABR waves II/III; the D6 scale (391-781Hz) showed a small amplitude waveform with its first four waves corresponding in latency to ABR waves I, II/III, V, and VI; and the D5 scale (781-1563Hz) showed a large amplitude, multiple peaked waveform with its first six waves corresponding in latency to ABR waves I, II, III, IV, V, and VI. At threshold stimulus levels (0-15dBSL), the A6 scale (0-391Hz) continued to show a relatively large amplitude waveform, but both the D6 and D5 scales (391-781 and 781-1563Hz, respectively) now showed relatively small amplitude waveforms. CONCLUSIONS: A dual structure exists within the ABR of the dog, but its relative structure changes with stimulus level. SIGNIFICANCE: The ABR in the dog differs from that in the human both in the relative contributions made by its different frequency components, and the way these components change with stimulus level.  相似文献

The determination of synergistic effects of antimicrobial drug combinations can lead to improved therapeutic options in the antibiotic treatment of cystic fibrosis patients who are chronically infected with multiresistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the E test versus the standard agar dilution checkerboard susceptibility test in the assessment of synergy and, in addition, to determine the activity of two antimicrobial combinations against 163 multiresistant P. aeruginosa isolates from cystic fibrosis patients. The agreement between the checkerboard method and the E test was excellent (>90%) for nonmucoid as well as mucoid isolates from cystic fibrosis patients. The rate of synergy was higher for the antibiotic combination of ceftazidime and tobramycin (28.8% of the cystic fibrosis strains) than for the combination of meropenem and tobramycin (19.0%). However, the probability of synergy for the second antibiotic combination increased significantly when the synergy of the first antibiotic combination had already been demonstrated (Fischer’s exact test, p=0.049). The results show that the E test is a valuable and practical method for routine microbiological diagnostics and can aid in the selection of improved antibiotic options in the treatment of cystic fibrosis patients chronically infected with P. aeruginosa.  相似文献

The incidence of rotator cuff tears is attributed to a number of extrinsic and intrinsic factors. One of the most important extrinsic factors is acromial morphology on which the theory of mechanical outlet impingement and successive tearing of the rotator cuff is based. Acromial morphology can be assessed on X-rays using several parameters. The most common parameters will be discussed and an overview of their association with the incidence of rotator cuff tears will be given. The acromion type according to Bigliani is the most commonly used classification; however the reproducibility has been questioned. More seldomly used parameters, such as the acromion index and the lateral acromion angle, show higher reproducibility and a clearer association with the incidence of rotator cuff tears. The variability due to imaging technique and scapula position for all parameters has to be kept in mind.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare a commercially available automated broth microdilution system (Merlin; Micronaut, Germany) with the standard agar dilution method for susceptibility testing of pulmonary isolates from cystic fibrosis patients. Accurate susceptibility testing of bacterial isolates from cystic fibrosis patients is known to pose problems. Although commercially available automated test systems could facilitate susceptibility testing of such isolates in routine diagnostics, these systems have not been recommended thus far. However, a pilot study recently indicated that the Merlin system, which is based on an endpoint measurement rather than on growth curves, might be applicable in the susceptibility testing of isolates from cystic fibrosis patients. In the present study, the Merlin system was further evaluated using an extended panel of nonmucoid and mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates. The results showed that the MICs obtained with the Merlin system tended to be lower than those obtained with the agar dilution method, a finding that became increasingly apparent when mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were tested. The correlation coefficients (r values) of the MIC results for all strains tested were between 0.6 and 0.8 for five of the seven antimicrobial agents, with r values exceeding 0.8 for only meropenem and ciprofloxacin. However, since the overall rate of serious discrepancies was within an acceptable range, the Merlin system appears to be applicable for routine clinical use in susceptibility testing of P. aeruginosa isolates from cystic fibrosis patients.  相似文献

Developmental expression of two-pore domain potassium (2P K) channels, TASK-1 and TREK-1, was investigated in the rat cochlea at onset of hearing and after maturity using RT-PCR and immunocytochemistry. TASK-1 and TREK-1 mRNAs were detected by RT-PCR at postnatal day (P) 9-12. TASK-1 like immunoreactivity (LIR) in the P13 cochlea was observed in Deiters', pillar, Claudius' and outer sulcus cells, spiral limbus fibrocytes, and neuroglia. At P13, TREK-1-LIR was more wide-spread, and included sensory and supporting cells of the organ of Corti, spiral ganglion, stria vascularis, Reissner's membrane, inner and outer sulcus cells, connective and support tissues surrounding modiolus. By P105 the pattern of TASK-1- and TREK-1-LIR became limited to a subset of the above structures, suggesting developmental regulation. During postnatal development, TASK-1 may be important in the onset (around P11) and maturation (by P22) of endocochlear potential and hearing. The distribution of TASK-1 and TREK-1 suggest a role in K cycling and homeostasis. As TASK-1 and TREK-1 are inhibited by local anesthetics at doses used to treat tinnitus, 2P K channels may also be important in cochlear dysfunction.  相似文献
