ABSTRACT: Camden Town in London is a mature cultural quarter with a contradictory mix of affluent middle class and homeless; Starbucks and street markets; counter‐cultural groups and tourists; participants in the night time economy and shopkeepers; media corporations and the “creative underclass.” There is a tension between the various stakeholders with their different powers. The patterns of cultural production and consumption in the area are complicated and have deep historical roots. The creative underclass has contributed to the Camden Town scene, which is gradually transforming from a liminal city fringe to a gentrified part of London's center. This paper provides insights into the process of this transformation. Decision making related to urban renewal also contributed to the complexity of the place and its contested nature, added to the existing tensions, and accelerated the transgression of the place from “authentic” to “spectacular.”  相似文献

Ultrasound has been used to study the behaviour of dextran, legumin (11s globulin of the broad bean Vicia faba ) and their mixtures in aqueous salt solutions under different physico-chemical and thermodynamic conditions. The attenuation coefficient of the solutions was measured as a function of pH (3–10) and ionic strength (0, 0.025, 0.05 M NaCl). The attenuation in the dextran solutions was independent of pH and ionic strength, whereas that in the solutions containing legumin had a maximum value near to the isoelectric point of the legumin (∼φ 5). The magnitude of this maximum depended on the ionic strength of the solution. The cause of the observed attenuation was scattering of ultrasound by precipitated protein. The addition of dextran to solutions where the biopolymers are thermodynamically compatible decreases the attenuation, whereas its addition to solutions where the biopolymers are incompatible increases it. This is because protein precipitation is greater in incompatible systems.  相似文献

All non-immortalized mesenchymal stem cells have a limited proliferative potential, that is, replicative senescence (RS) is an integral characteristic of the life of all mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). It is known that one of the important signs of RS is a decrease of cell motility, and that violations of migration processes contribute to the deterioration of tissue regeneration. Therefore, the characterization of the properties of the cell line associated with RS is a prerequisite for the effective use of MSCs in restorative medicine. One of the key proteins regulating cell motility is the small GTPase RhoA. The main purpose of this work was to study the nuclear-cytoplasmic redistribution of the RhoA protein during RS in MSC lines recently obtained and characterized in our laboratory. The study found that a comparative analysis of the intracellular localization of RhoA in three cell lines (MSCWJ-1, FetMSC, DF2) showed a decrease in the nuclear localization of RhoA during RS.  相似文献
