Method for Studying Internal-Conversion Electrons on the Fully Automated PAVIKOM Microscope-Based Complex

The results of test measurements of a photoemulsion plate on the PAVIKOM-1 measurement complex are presented. The plate was exposed in a -ray spectrograph at the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of the JINR. The plate was irradiated with internal-conversion electrons resulting from the decay of erbium isotopes. A precision television data-readout system with a CCD array containing 1360 × 1024 photodetecting elements ensured an accuracy of 0.5 m along all coordinates.     

Measurement of the internal conversion electron lines by the track counting technique

The internal conversion electron lines were measured by the method of track counting in a nuclear photoemulsion with the aid of an optical microscope and an MAS-1 automated TV setup.     

Evolution of the SONIX Software Package for the YuMO Spectrometer at the ИБР-2 Reactor

The software package for the YuMO spectrometer has been updated. The MS DOS programs used before the updating are compared to the similar new programs operating in the OS-9 environment. The merits and demerits of each program are discussed. The main features of the new software are described, and the results of the long-term operation of the new software package are analyzed. It is shown that upgrading the software has improved spectrometer control.

Direct Synthesis of Polyaromatic Cyclophanes Containing Bis-Methylene-Interrupted Z-Double Bonds and Study of Their Antitumor Activity In Vitro

An original synthetic route was developed for the preparation of previously unknown unsaturated polyaromatic macrolactones containing a 1Z,5Z-diene moiety in 48–71% yields and with >98% stereoselectivity. The method is based on intermolecular cyclocondensation of aromatic dicarboxylic acids with α,ω-alka-nZ,(n+4)Z-dienediols (1,12-dodeca-4Z,8Z-dienediol, 1,14-tetradeca-5Z,9Z-dienediol, 1,18-octadeca-7Z,11Z-dienediol) mediated by N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC)/4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP). The unsaturated diols were prepared by successive homo-cyclomagnesiation of tetrahydropyran ethers of O-containing 1,2-dienes with EtMgBr in the presence of Mg metal and the Cp₂TiCl₂ catalyst (10 mol.%) and subsequent treatment with 0.1 equiv. of para-toluenesulfonic acid of pyran ethers formed after the acid hydrolysis of magnesacyclopentanes. The resulting cyclophanes exhibited high cytotoxic activity in vitro against Jurkat, K562, U937, and HL60 cancer lines. Additionally, the synthesized products were studied for their effect on mitochondria, ability to induce apoptosis, and influence on the cell cycle using modern flow cytometry methods.     

Comparison of two methods for determining defects in technical systems

Comparing computational results obtained with different programs is a topical problem in the modeling of physical processes. A possible method for solving this problem is stochastic approximation of a deterministic model. The objective of the present work is to compare two methods of determining defects in a technical system. The data obtained with these methods are used to calculate the uncertainty of the methods and it is concluded that there is a discrepancy, i.e., the methods cannot be used interchangeably in practice. This means that both methods must be used together in order to increase the accuracy of the data on defects in technical systems.
