Thermodynamics of Chemical Interactions in the CdTe–ZnTe–O2–C System during Melt Growth of Cd1 – x Zn x Te Crystals

Thermodynamic analysis is used to identify the possible chemical reactions of CdTe and ZnTe with the container material and gaseous atmosphere during Bridgman growth. Thermodynamic parameters of carbide and oxycarbide formation in the growth system are evaluated. The calculation results are consistent with the well-known fact that oxygen-containing impurities can be removed from the growth charge by calcination in hydrogen. Moreover, as shown in experiment, the removal of oxygen from the charge ensures a substantial decrease in the carbon content of the crystals.     

A pulse-type evaporator for ultrafast deposition of thin films in ultrahigh vacuum

The design of a simple pulse-type evaporator ensuring a high rate (up to ～10⁴ nm/s) of deposition of thin films (0.01–100 nm thick) onto a solid surface in ultrahigh vacuum is described. The evaporation pulse is created by discharge of a capacitor bank via a fast-response evaporator produced from a tungsten foil. Results illustrating the efficiency of this device are presented.     

Yield of products from catalytic cracking of vacuum gasoils

In catalytic cracking of vacuum gasoils, the yields of products are correlated with their hydrogen content. A correlation that allows predicting the yields of products of this process was elaborated based on the results of cracking of 11 gasoils of different origin and data on their density, refractive index, and 50% distillation temperature. Production of high-alumina cement clinker by fusion in an electric furnace

Conclusions The possibility of obtaining clinker from high-alumina cement by melting a mixture of lime and technical alumina in an electric-arc furnace at the Klyuchevsk Ferroalloy Plant has been shown.The high-alumina cement obtained from fused clinker is significantly better in its physicochemical properties than the cement produced on the basis of the lime-alumina slags from the ferroalloy industry.Translated from Ogneupory, No. 5, pp. 25–27, May, 1984.     

Rheological properties of spinning compositions for spinning biocatalyst fibre

Conclusions Rheological properties of protein-containing spinning compositions intended for spinning biocatalyst fibres have been studied.The rheological properties of these spinning compositions depend on the composition of the aqueous phase, the concentration of protein, and the modification of the protein; this is explained by a change in state of the protein at the interface and in the bulk of the aqueous phase.Modification of the protein leads to an increase in stability of the process of spinning the biocatalyst fibre by the wet method.Moscow Textile Institute. Laser with rapid tuning of the spectrum shape

We have studied a laser system with quick electronic tuning of the spectrum shape and continuous distribution. The proposed method is based on separate control of phase and amplitude spatial distributions of resonator transmittance. Evolution of the spectral function of the diffractively coupled dispersive resonators and the model for the formation of the resonator with the spectral function given by its moments are studied theoretically. The synthesis of continuous spectra is investigated experimentally in the laser with a novel control element including a spatial acousto-optic modulator and a tunable lens telescope.
