Robust nonlinear feedforward–feedback controllers are designed for a multiscale system that dynamically couples kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) and finite difference (FD) simulation codes. The coupled codes simulate the copper electrodeposition process for manufacturing on-chip copper interconnects in electronic devices. The control objective is to regulate the current density subject to the condition that the steady-state fluctuation of the overpotential remains bounded within ±0.01 V. The controller designs incorporate a low-order stochastic model that captures the input–output behavior of the coupled KMC–FD code. The controllers achieve the objectives and the closed-loop responses implemented on the low-order model and the coupled KMC–FD code match well within stochastic variations. The nonlinear feedforward control reduces the rise time of the controller response while the feedback control ensures robustness in the presence of model uncertainty.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the tactile feedback of snap-fit fasteners when used in manual assembly. An important aspect of this assembly process is the assembler’s ability to perceive the snap-fit’s engagement. This sensing of engagement yields a high level of confidence that assembly is both complete and secure. Force and tactile feedback are critical elements in this process. Many snap-fits are used in conjunction with sealing elements that produce a constant force that remains in effect after snap-fit assembly is completed. The effect of sealing element preload magnitude and stiffness was studied using a test station, force deflection measurements, and jury pool data. A low value of preload with low stiffness was determined to be most favorable in terms of force and tactile feedback, with no preload only slightly less favorable. In order to sense the engagement signal of the catch, some resistance to assembly was found to be beneficial. A dimensionless term called “engagement signal-to-hold-force ratio” is proposed as an additional way of rating the effect of assembly forces for snap-fits. It was found that higher signal-to-hold-force ratio, as well as higher values of engagement signal, corresponded to higher confidence of assembly among experimental subjects.

Relevance to Industry

In the automotive industry, force and tactile feedback are essential for sensing the full engagement of snap-fit parts during the assembly of critical components, such as electrical and fuel system interconnects. Both the design of the snap-fit and the presence or absence of preload will affect force and tactile feedback. Many of these applications require the compression of an elastic gasket with a preload needed for air, fuel, or electrical isolation. Preload and preload stiffness factors are examined in this paper with the aim of achieving a better understanding of these effects so that snap-fit confidence of assembly and assembly robustness can be enhanced in industrial settings.  相似文献

Designers and manufacturers often see consumption as the primary objective of a product–with implications such as discarded products,obsolete wastes,and ecological degradation.The paper aims to find the answer to the question,how emotional design can adapt the discarded and undesirable products into something valuable in a long term?This paper presents a framework combining Chapman’s theory and Norman’s theory on three levels of emotional design to highlight what long lasting connection with products entails.A design approach is presented combing the Wabi Sabi philosophy that promotes the celebration of decay and damage.This is used as one of the design principles for the experiments conducted on discarded products.Through constant user interaction before,during and after the experiments the evaluation of design as an agent of transformation is done.The user conducted the evaluation based on the Kansei elements of looks,sound,smell,and feel of the product.The experiments confirmed that a long-term value is only achieved through redesigning and reconstructing the perception of people towards products on a reflective level,rather than the visceral and behavioural elements of the product.The research found attachment to the visceral and behavioural elements of a product instead of an emotional one was causing users to discard products faster than required.The research indicated that many people,including designers and manufacturers,are unconsciously focusing on usability(behavioural level)and physical look(visceral level)of a product that are easily replaced,than on a meaningful way (reflective level)to create and maintain long-lasting emotions.The research concluded with a proposition towards digitization of products which could perhaps be an all round solution to make products more appropriate to human emotions.Digitization could give products the ability to capture,store and then communicate the stories,journey and memories back,in order to empower people to understand the value of longer-term use of products.  相似文献

RF wideband power amplifiers are desirable as they will reduce equipment, power consumption and operating cost for the RF communication infrastructure. For decades, the realization of single-stage broadband power amplifier has posed a significant challenge due to the electrical and thermal limitations of GaAs transistor technology. Silicon carbide (SiC) MESFET technology is a strong contender for such applications due to its superior properties. In particular, its high impedance reduces mismatch commonly encountered in such power amplifier.In this work, design of wideband hybrid single-stage power amplifier using a commercial 4H-SiC MESFET CRF24010 from Cree Inc is presented. The amplifier has been designed and fabricated for operating frequencies 650-1800 MHz, which is equivalent to more than 90% bandwidth, compared to only 3-4% bandwidth achievable using GaAs technology.  相似文献

Thermally grown oxide on 4H-SiC has been post-annealed in diluted N2O (10% N2O in N2) at different temperatures from 900 to 1100 °C. The quality of the nitrided oxide and the SiO2/4H-SiC interface was investigated by AC conductance and high frequency C-V measurements based on Al/SiO2/4H-SiC metal-insulator-semiconductor (MOS) structure. It is found that N2O annealing at 1000 °C produces the lowest interface state density, though the difference is not so significant when compared to the other samples annealed at 900 and 1100 °C. These results can be explained by the high temperature dynamic decomposition process of N2O. By fitting the AC conductance data, it is found that higher temperature nitridation increases the capture cross-section of the interface traps.  相似文献

The frequency of collisions between the end-groups of a polymer molecule is a useful measure of the dynamic flexibility of the molecule. An exact expression for this quantity is given in terms of the various distribution functions which characterize the polymer and the result compared with the experiments of Szwarc et al. on polymethylene chains in solution. Nylon-6 is widely used as engineering plastic because it is easy to process, high tensile properties, resistant to chemical and abrasion. However, poor impact strength at low temperature makes it limitedly used in some applications. Nylon-6/liquid natural rubber (LNR) blends were prepared via emulsion dispersion with composition of 100nylon-6/0LNR, 95nylon-6/5LNR, 90nylon-6/10LNR, 85nylon-6/15LNR, 80nylon-6/20LNR and 75nylon-6/25LNR. Nylon-6 was dissolved in a 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol and chloroform mixture (1:1 TFE/CHCl3) and emulsified with hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HTAB). LNR was dispersed into the nylon-6 emulsion to form homogeneous nylon-6/LNR emulsions and the emulsions were de-emulsified with methanol, filtered and dried. High impact behaviour was achieved at 85nylon-6/15LNR composition. DSC thermogram indicated a single glass transition temperature, T g and SEM images showed no phase separation between blend components implying homogeneous blends were obtained.  相似文献

Poly[acrylonitrile (AN)‐co‐divinylbenzene (DVB)‐co‐vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC)] terpolymers were synthesized by precipitation polymerization in the form of porous polymer microspheres. The poly(AN‐co‐DVB‐co‐VBC) polymers were then hypercrosslinked, via a Friedel‐Crafts reaction with FeCl3 in nitrobenzene, to provide a significant uplift in the specific surface areas of the polymers. FTIR spectra of the hypercrosslinked poly(AN‐co‐DVB‐co‐VBC)s showed that the chloromethyl groups derived from VBC were consumed by the Friedel‐Crafts reactions, which was consistent with successful hypercrosslinking. Hypercrosslinking installed a number of new, small pores into the polymers, as evidenced by a dramatic increase in the specific surface areas upon hypercrosslinking (from ~530 to 1080 m2 g?1). The hypercrosslinked polymers are very interesting for a range of applications, not least of all for solid‐phase extraction (SPE) work, where the convenient physical form of the polymers (beaded format), their low mean particle diameters, and narrow particle size distributions, as well as their high specific surface areas and polar character (arising from the AN residues), make them attractive candidates as SPE sorbents. In this regard, in a preliminary study one of the hypercrosslinked polymers was utilized as an SPE sorbent for the capture of the polar pharmaceutical diclofenac from a polar environment. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM)-based composites containing sepiolite (sep) hybridized with calcium carbonate (CaCO3), silica (Sil) or carbon black (CB) were prepared on a two-roll mill. The influence of fillers’ contents on the curing, mechanical, thermal and flammability of the composites was investigated. In comparison with EPDM/sep at 30 parts per hundred rubbers (phr) as a control composite, EPDM/sep/CB composites exhibited an outstanding improvement in tensile strength followed by EPDM/sep/Sil and EPDM/sep/CaCO3 composites. EPDM/sep/CB displayed the highest thermal stability and also improved flammability resistance. In addition, a higher amount of carbon black gave higher tensile strength. The results were influenced by the ability of CB to disperse well and form protective layers acting as mass transport barriers in the matrix. The field emission scanning electron microscopy analyses proved better dispersion of CB in the matrix. The presence of protective layers on the surface of samples consequently improved the thermal properties of the EPDM composites. The mechanism of formation of char protective layer in hybrid EPDM composites was also investigated based on morphological observations of char residues. According to this work, Sil and CB were able to hybrid with sep, while sep could be a potential substitution of CaCO3 in the EPDM composites.  相似文献
