Delay composition in preemptive and non-preemptive real-time pipelines   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Uniprocessor schedulability theory made great strides, in part, due to the simplicity of composing the delay of a job from the execution times of higher-priority jobs that preempt it. In this paper, we bound the end-to-end delay of a job in a multistage pipeline as a function of job execution times on different stages under preemptive as well as non-preemptive scheduling. We show that the end-to-end delay is bounded by that of a single virtual “bottleneck” stage plus a small additive component. This contribution effectively transforms the pipeline into a single stage system. The wealth of schedulability analysis techniques derived for uniprocessors can then be applied to decide the schedulability of the pipeline. The transformation does not require imposing artificial per-stage deadlines, but rather models the pipeline as a whole and uses the end-to-end deadlines directly in the single-stage analysis. It also does not make assumptions on job arrival patterns or periodicity and thus can be applied to periodic and aperiodic tasks alike. We show through simulations that this approach outperforms previous pipeline schedulability tests except for very short pipelines or when deadlines are sufficiently large. The reason lies in the way we account for execution overlap among stages. We discuss how previous approaches account for overlap and point out interesting differences that lead to different performance advantages in different cases. Further, we also show that in certain cases non-preemptive scheduling can result in higher system utilization than preemptive scheduling in pipelined systems. We hope that the pipeline delay composition rule, derived in this paper, may be a step towards a general schedulability analysis foundation for large distributed systems.

This paper presents a geocast technique for underwater sensor networks. The model named as Routing and Multicast Tree based Geocasting (RMTG) (TRACE'10, Bhopal, India, 2010; ICWET'10, Mumbai, India, 2010) has been designed for underwater sensor networks. In our previous work (TRACE'10, Bhopal, India, 2010; ICWET'10, Mumbai, India, 2010) we proposed only a theoretical model for underwater geocasting. The RMTG technique uses greedy forwarding and previous hop handshaking to route the packets towards the geocast region and further disseminates the data within the geocast region by creating a multicast shortest path tree. We also presented various link broken scenarios along with their solutions. The proposed model does not use the flooding technique to deliver the packets inside the geocast region that is used in most of the geocasting techniques. In this paper, we present the simulated RMTG model. The simulation results show that the proposed model provides an efficient distribution of data in the geocast region in terms of node mobility handling, packet delivery ratio and a better end‐to‐end latency. Most of the work on geocasting has been done for mobile and vehicular ad hoc networks; hence we present in this paper a novel simulated model for underwater environment. TiN/TiAlN multilayers of 2 μm thickness were successfully prepared by reactive DC magnetron sputtering method. XRD pattern showed the (1 1 1) preferential orientation for both TiN and TiAlN layers. XPS characterization showed the presence of different phases like TiN, TiO2, TiON, AlN and Al2O3. Cross sectional TEM indicated the columnar growth of the coatings. The average RMS roughness value of 4.8 nm was observed from AFM analysis. TiN/TiAlN coating showed lower friction coefficient and lower wear rate than single layer coatings. The results of electrochemical experiments indicated that a TiN/TiAlN multilayer coating has superior corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaCl solution.  相似文献

A comprehensive study of the macrobenthic communities in the Kodungallur–Azhikode Estuary (KAE) was conducted during 2009–2011 period. A total of 18,846 organisms were collected, with 60% being malacostracans, followed by polychaetes (20%), molluscs (9%) and ‘others’ group (11%). A total of 79 species in 71 genera belonging to 49 families were identified, with 33 spp. being polychaetes, 26 spp. being malacostracans, 11 spp. being molluscs and 9 spp. being in the ‘others’ group. A single species of opportunistic amphipod (Americorophium triaeonyx) comprised more than 62.05% of the total numerical abundance of macrobenthos. The other dominant species were Obelia bidentata, Arcuatula senhousia, Cirolana fluviatilis, Prionospio cirrifera and Capitella sp. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) results indicated environmental parameters such as water column salinity, turbidity, sediment Eh, substratum type, chlorophyll‐a concentration, depth and organic matter in sediment were the significant factors influencing the distribution of macrobenthic species in the KAE. The present study provides baseline information for future KAE benthic studies.  相似文献

The present study deals with the shear lag phenomenon in cold formed angles under tension, which are connected on one leg. A new expression for shear lag factor which represents the net section reduction coefficient has been suggested in the present paper. The proposed expression based on the regression analysis of 108 experimental results reported in the literature is validated by experiments involving net section failure in angles under tension. Totally 18 experiments were carried out on single angles fastened with bolts to the gusset plates under tension loaded upto net section rupture mode of failure. The experimental test parameters considered are number of bolts, pitch and shear lag distances and ratio of connected leg length to unconnected leg length. The tensile capacities are evaluated by various specifications such as AS/NZS:4600:2005, NAS:2001, AISC:2005, BS:5950-Part5:1998, IS:800-2007 and the proposed equation. A comparative study of tensile capacities predicted based on various codes and the experiment results is presented in this paper. For the tested range of specimens, both NAS:2001 and AISC:2005 standards over-predicted the capacities for all the specimens. The IS:800-2007 and AS/NZS 4600:2005 predictions are good for the specimens with three bolted connections and unconservative in the case of specimen with two bolts. Both BS:5950-Part-5:1998 and the proposed equation for IS:801 predict good estimate of the tensile capacity of cold formed angle members. The proposed equation for cold formed steel tension members, which is in the same format of IS:800 (2007) (Indian code for Hot rolled steel design), has been demonstrated to be good.  相似文献

Torrefaction of selected agro-residues (rice straw and cotton stalk) was successfully carried out on indirectly heated, batch-type fixed-bed reactor under different reactor temperatures (200–300°C) at a fixed heating rate of 10°C/min. Our preliminary results demonstrated that the rice straw, torrefied at 275°C, exhibited higher mass yield (64%) and energy yield (84%) with better fuel properties, i.e. lower moisture content (1.2%), volatile matters (54.7%), higher fixed carbon (24.8%), and higher heating value (HHV) 18.7 MJ/kg. On the other hand, cotton stalk showed a slightly lower mass yield (56.3%) and energy yield (74.4%) compared to rice star with very high HHV 22.5 MJ/kg torrefied at a relatively lower temperature of 250°C. Interestingly, the lignocellulosic composition showed a drastic increase in the lignin content of rice straw and cotton stalk, torrefied at 275°C and 250°C, respectively, which indicates good binding ability of bio-fuel leading to improved energy density. Our present work gives an insight that the torrefied rice straw and cotton stalk could be a promising biomass feedstock for bio-energy based systems such as biomass pyrolsyis and gasification.  相似文献
