Although increasing feedback specificity is generally beneficial for immediate performance, it can undermine certain aspects of the learning needed for later, more independent performance. The results of the present transfer experiment demonstrate that the effects of increasing feedback specificity on learning depended on what was to be learned, and these effects were partially mediated through the opportunities to learn how to respond to different task conditions during practice. More specific feedback was beneficial for learning how to respond to good performance and detrimental for learning how to respond to poor performance. The former relationship was partially mediated by feedback specificity's effect on learning opportunities during practice. The results have implications for designing feedback interventions and training to maximize the learning of various aspects of a task. ABSTRACT: Flavor characteristics of roasted peanuts over short-term storage were explored through sensory and chemical analyses. The volatiles from freshly roasted peanuts were evaluated over short-time (21 d) storage using gas chromatography, chemosensory techniques, and a sensory panel to quantify and identify pyrazines and hexanal over a 21-d storage period. A significant decrease ( P < 0.05) was noted in 2,3-diethylpyrazine, 2-methoxypyrazine, 2,3-dimethylpyrazine, 2-ethyl-3-methylpyrazine, and 2,3,5-trimethylpyrazine concentrations over a 21-d period. No significant difference ( P > 0.05) was noted in the 2-methylpyrazine and 2-ethylpyrazine concentrations. The hexanal concentration significantly increased ( P < 0.05) over the 21-d period. The peroxide values and sensory analysis agreed with these results. A significant increase ( P < 0.05) in peroxide value was seen at days 14 and 21, and a significant decrease ( P < 0.05) in fresh roasted peanuty flavor from day 0 to 21 and significant increases ( P < 0.05) in painty, cardboardy, and bitter flavors from day 7 to 21 with the sensory analysis. The electronic nose successfully separated day 0 and 21 samples from day 7 and 14 samples, which were also separated but with some overlap.  相似文献

Starting from suvorexant (trade name Belsomra), we successfully identified interesting templates leading to potent dual orexin receptor antagonists (DORAs) via a scaffold‐hopping approach. Structure–activity relationship optimization allowed us not only to improve the antagonistic potency on both orexin 1 and orexin 2 receptors (Ox1 and Ox2, respectively), but also to increase metabolic stability in human liver microsomes (HLM), decrease time‐dependent inhibition of cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4, and decrease P‐glycoprotein (Pgp)‐mediated efflux. Compound 80 c [{(1S,6R)‐3‐(6,7‐difluoroquinoxalin‐2‐yl)‐3,8‐diazabicyclo[4.2.0]octan‐8‐yl}(4‐methyl‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐2‐yl)methanone] is a potent and selective DORA that inhibits the stimulating effects of orexin peptides OXA and OXB at both Ox1 and Ox2. In calcium‐release assays, 80 c was found to exhibit an insurmountable antagonistic profile at both Ox1 and Ox2, while displaying a sleep‐promoting effect in rat and dog models, similar to that of the benchmark compound suvorexant.  相似文献

Reviews the book, Treating the juvenile offender edited by Robert D. Hoge, Nancy G. Guerra, and Paul Boxer (see record 2008-02979-000). This book rejuvenates interest in treatment for juvenile offenders, outlining the important advances that have been made, key challenges that remain, and useful principles for effectively meeting these challenges. Key themes that are emphasised include the importance of evidence-based approaches, interventions that are sensitive to the ecological systems within which youth are embedded, and rehabilitative strategies that are closely informed by research on youths’ risks, needs, and strengths. This book does not deliver a quick manual on how to deliver a particular program, but instead carefully models how to think about and approach treatment. While the book remains accessible to beginners, it is written in a manner which will be thought-provoking and informative even for experts. Furthermore, it is likely to have the positive effect of leaving readers with a desire to learn and do more to improve current practices. With the application of adjudicative competence requirements to adolescent defendants, there is a growing need for interventions to enhance the legal capacities of adolescents who are found to be incompetent. By reviewing developmental, clinical, and educational research, the authors discuss whether it is possible to enhance youths' legal capacities and, if so, what the most promising approaches may be. Psychoeducational interventions for youth are discussed, as well as the possibility of changing the demands of the juvenile justice system to try borderline-competent youth in juvenile court. The authors conclude that there is evidence to believe it may be challenging to enhance youths' legal capacities, particularly when youth have limited rational understanding and/or legal reasoning capacities, and when these deficits stem from developmental immaturity and/or mental retardation. Grinding processes can be optimized by simulating the influence of individual grains on process forces and surface topographies. However, the process results are significantly influenced by tool wear. Simulating this effect allows, e.g., the prediction of necessary tool changes when manufacturing large forming tools. Therefore, a new point-based approach for modeling arbitrarily shaped grains in different states of tool wear was developed. Based on a small amount of representative wear investigations, a flexible tool model was defined, which can be used for various tool shapes without further experiments. This model can be applied for grinding processes with varying engagement situations.  相似文献

Abstract

Due to substantial clean-up efforts, water quality in the River Thames in London has steadily improved over the last three decades. However, London's Victorian sewage system still discharges untreated sewage into the Thames, at times of moderate to heavy rainfall. This happens approximately 60 times every year, creating adverse environmental and amenity impacts on the river. Major and costly engineering works will be required to solve the sewage overflow problem. This paper reports the results of a stated preference study designed to value the multiple non-market benefits—eductions in sewage litter, risk to human health, and risk to fish populations—associated with a range of potential engineering solutions. Our findings indicate that household willingness to pay for these benefits is likely to be significantly greater than the projected costs per household of, at least, some potential technical solutions. Although arguably justifiable on economic grounds, the final decision on whether to proceed with such a large infrastructure project is unlikely to depend wholly on cost-benefit thinking, but involve complex trade-offs with other socially desirable criteria.  相似文献

Historically, only physicians, typically psychiatrists, were permitted to conduct forensic mental health evaluations for the courts. In the United States, the courts have affirmed increasing acceptance of involvement of psychologists since the 1940s. In Canada, the legal system continues to adhere to the assumption of medical dominance to a large extent. For instance, Canadian legislation requires that a physician conduct court-ordered assessments of fitness to stand trial and criminal responsibility. In this article, relevant Canadian law is compared to American law, and empirical research on the ability of psychologists to assess fitness and criminal responsibility is discussed. This study investigated the effectiveness of an undergraduate human services course based on Landreth's (1991, 2002) 10-week model of filia, therapy and Adlerian principles as in Kinder therapy (White, Flynt, and Draper, 1997). Specifically, this research determined whether the training received in this course facilitated change in the undergraduate students' attitudes toward and empathic behavior with children, the students' parenting attitudes, and their play therapy attitude, knowledge, and skills. Experimental and control groups of undergraduate human services majors completed pretest and posttest measures. Each group also had a 30-minute videotaped play session with a young child.
