The Charpy impact energies of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steel in the as-received and several thermally embrittled conditions have been assessed on the basis of microstructural parameters. It has been concluded that the parameters controlling the impact-absorbed energy of pre-cracked and side-grooved Charpy test specimens are the equivalent grain size of dual-phase annealed microstructures, and the bainite packet size of single-phase quenched and tempered materials. The Charpy energy has been correlated very well with the reduction in area and true fracture strain of tensile specimens, which could be inferred as grain size governed mechanical properties.  相似文献

The paper presents a neural network model of the touch sensitivity circuit of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. We describe a serie of simulations in which neural networks are trained, using a genetic algorithm, to reproduce the habituation of the nematode's touch sensitive behavior. A lesion study of the network allows to make a direct comparison between the fine functioning of the model and the data collected in real organisms. The model accords well with the known neurobiological data and it suggests some hypotheses about the functioning of the neural circuit and of single neurons.  相似文献

The multiple genetic hit model of cancer predicts that normal individuals should have stable populations of cancer-prone, but noncancerous, mutant cells awaiting further genetic hits. We report that whole-mount preparations of human skin contain clonal patches of p53-mutated keratinocytes, arising from the dermal-epidermal junction and from hair follicles. These clones, 60-3000 cells in size, are present at frequencies exceeding 40 cells per cm2 and together involve as much as 4% of the epidermis. In sun-exposed skin, clones are both more frequent and larger than in sun-shielded skin. We conclude that, in addition to being a tumorigenic mutagen, sunlight acts as a tumor promoter by favoring the clonal expansion of p53-mutated cells. These combined actions of sunlight result in normal individuals carrying a substantial burden of keratinocytes predisposed to cancer.  相似文献

Carotid-cavernous fistulas are abnormal communications between the internal carotid artery and the cavernous sinus produced by a rupture of the wall of the carotid artery or one of its branches into the sinus. Extradural branches of the internal or external carotid arteries may communicate with the cavernous sinus, producing proptosis, progressive glaucoma, and ocular vascular engorgement. Various approaches to obliterate these fistulas have evolved, many of which carry high morbidity or are precluded by anatomical considerations. Analysis of the venous anatomy of the orbit and face, including human cadaver dissections, reveals a new and safe approach to the cavernous sinus, requiring microsurgical isolation and cannulation of the superior ophthalmic vein through an anterior orbital approach. Selective embolization of a carotid-cavernous fistula can be performed successfully through this route. We present pertinent anatomy and technical considerations and the successful clinical application of these principles. Surgeons familiar with craniofacial anatomy and microvascular techniques can apply these principles and play an active role in the treatment of these complex problems.  相似文献

The problem of the non-causal inversion of linear multivariable discrete-time systems is analyzed in the geometric approach framework and is solved through the computation of convolution profiles which guarantee perfect tracking under the assumption of infinite-length preaction and postaction time intervals. It is shown how the shape of the convolution profiles is related to both the relative degree and the invariant zeros of the plant. A computational setting for the convolution profiles is derived by means of the standard geometric approach tools. Feasibility constraints are also taken into account. A possible implementation scheme, based on a finite impulse response system acting on a stabilized control loop, is provided.  相似文献

Fully differential filter design is usually made departing from a single-ended prototype. This procedure guarantees the desired differential-mode response, but does not take into account common-mode dynamics, which could present nonacceptable transient responses or stability problems. A state-space design technique, which provides control of both differential and common-mode responses, is proposed. It is based on a feedback topology that allows independent assignment of differential and common-mode eigenvalues. This technique ensures circuit stability and also provides a high common-mode rejection ratio, which is independent of component unbalances. Experimental results on a first-order state-space filter are presented.  相似文献

Electrokinetic remediation of soils contaminated with heavy metals   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This paper describes the results obtained from an electrokinetic treatment of a real soil polluted by lead acetate. Powdered soil samples were pressed with a consolidometer till 100 kPa to obtain cylindrical specimens with the same characteristics as a subsoil. Tests were carried out in a Perspex electrochemical cell where soil specimens were introduced with a hollow punch. A low intensity direct current was applied in order to remove contaminants, due to electrophoresis and electroosmosis phenomena. The water flow, conductivity, apparent electroosmotic coefficient, as well as other characteristic parameters, were measured throughout the test. The water content and degree of pore saturation were estimated at the beginning and end of the test. The soil slab was divided into four slices and the Pb concentration profile determined. The main factor governing the extraction of contaminant was found to be the pH in the acidic range. Indeed, under these conditions high removal efficiencies could be reached. These results could lead to the design of a new electrochemical treatment cell equipped with a cationic membrane to expand the region of favourable pH within the soil.  相似文献

In this paper we analyze how supervised learning occurs in ecological neural networks, i.e. networks that interact with an autonomous external environment and, therefore, at least partially determine with their behavior their own input. Using an evolutionary method for selecting good teaching inputs we surprisingly find that to obtain a desired outputX it is better to use a teaching input different fromX. To explain this fact we claim that teaching inputs in ecological networks have two different effects: (a) to reduce the discrepancy between the actual output of the network and the teaching input, (b) to modify the network's behavior and, as a consequence, the network's learning experiences. Evolved teaching inputs appear to represent a compromise between these two needs. We finally show that evolved teaching inputs that are allowed to change during the learning process function differently at different stages of learning, first giving more weight to (b) and, later on, to (a).  相似文献
