This study investigates the impact of personal finance education delivered in high school and college. Outcomes of interest
were investment knowledge and household savings rates measured years after the financial education was delivered. A web-based
survey with questions about participation in financial education, financial experiences, income and inheritances, and demographic
characteristics was administered to 1,039 alumni from a large midwestern university. Participation in a college level personal
finance course was associated with higher levels of investment knowledge. Experience with financial instruments appeared to
explain more of the variance in both investment knowledge and savings rates. No significant relationship between taking a
high school course and investment knowledge was found. Financial experiences were found to be positively associated with savings
rates.

Much progress has been made on the development of statistical methods for network analysis in the past ten years, building on the general class of exponential family random graph (ERG) network models first introduced by Holland and Leinhardt (1981) . Recent examples include models for Markov graphs, "p*" models, and actor‐oriented models. For empirical application, these ERG models take a logistic form, and require the equivalent of a network census: data on all dyads within the network. In a largely separate stream of research, conditional log‐linear (CLL) models have been adapted for analyzing locally sampled ("egocentric") network data. While the general relation between log‐linear and logistic models is well known and has been exploited in the case of a priori blockmodels for networks, the relation for the CLL models is different due to the treatment of absent ties. For fully saturated tie independence models, CLL and ERG are equivalent and related via Bayes' rule. For other tie independence models, the two do not yield equivalent predicted values, but we show that in practice the differences are unlikely to be large. The alternate conditioning in the two models sheds light on the relationship between local and complete network data, and the role that models can play in bridging the gap between them. 相似文献

In this article, we present and explain a bio-psycho-social model of successful aging with subjective well-being as a criterion
of a successful aging process. We focus on physical activity because it is a crucial behavior. Physical activity can support
successful aging in two different ways: first, due to its physiological and cognitive effects, and Second, an older person
can enhance subjective well-being (SWB) while being physically active. The model points out that an older person can regulate
SWB. To do this, an older person should set and pursue personally and culturally valued goals. The strength of the association
between setting a goal and goal pursuance, respectively, and SWB depends on the extent a person is able to satisfy psychological
needs (autonomy, competence, relatedness). But, the decision as to which goal will be set and pursued does not belong to the
older person exclusively. The bio-psycho-social model explains that the chance to enhance SWB is restricted by personal dispositions
(e.g., physiological constitution, psychological factors) and social–structural constraints (e.g., predominant stereotype
of aging, facilities especially for target groups).

AbstractResearch consistently shows that, regardless of increased parental involvement in child-rearing over the last few decades, the ‘lion’s share’ of childcare and housework is still undertaken by women rather than men. Academia is known to have no fixed working hours as such. As a result, the pressure on academic mothers tends to be inflated, and this has repercussions on women’s promotional paths, publishing outcomes and general professional and personal well-being. The positive effect of working women having spousal support is well documented in many employment areas. This paper looks at perceived spousal support which academic mothers, living and working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), report. While some of the women did report their spouses to be supportive, this was often theoretical rather than practical. The ways in which this spousal support situation has affected the academic mothers’ lives is discussed. 相似文献

This paper uses microdata to evaluate the impact on the steady-state unemployment rate of an increase in maximum benefit duration. We evaluate a policy change in Austria that extended maximum benefit duration
and use this policy change to estimate the causal impact of benefit duration on labor market flows. We find that the policy
change leads to a significant increase in the steady-state unemployment rate and, surprisingly, most of this increase is due
to an increase in the inflow into rather than the outflow from unemployment. 相似文献
