The planning of Physical Cell Identities (PCI) has a strong impact on the performance of Long Term Evolution cellular networks. Although several PCI planning schemes have been proposed in the literature, no study has quantified the performance gains obtained by these schemes. In this paper, a comprehensive performance analysis is carried out to quantify the impact of PCI planning on user quality of service and network capacity in the downlink of LTE. First, an analytical model for the influence of PCI planning on reference signal collisions is developed. Based on this model, different PCI planning schemes are tested on a dynamic system-level simulator implementing a macrocellular scenario. During the analysis, both Voice-over-IP and full buffer services over time-synchronized and non-time synchronized networks are considered. Results show that call blocking and dropping for real-time services and user throughput for non-real time services can be significantly improved by a proper PCI plan.  相似文献

Modern DBMSes are designed to support many transactions running simultaneously. DBMS thrashing is indicated by the existence of a sharp drop in transaction throughput. Thrashing behavior in DBMSes is a serious concern to database administrators (DBAs) as well as to DBMS implementers. From an engineering perspective, therefore, it is of critical importance to understand the causal factors of DBMS thrashing. However, understanding the origin of thrashing in modern DBMSes is challenging, due to many factors that may interact with each other.This article aims to better understand the thrashing phenomenon across multiple DBMSes. We identify some of the underlying causes of DBMS thrashing. We then propose a novel structural causal model to explicate the relationships between various factors contributing to DBMS thrashing. Our model derives a number of specific hypotheses to be subsequently tested across DBMSes, providing empirical support for this model as well as important engineering implications for improvements in transaction processing.  相似文献

With the wide deployment of IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks, it has become common for mobile nodes (MNs) to have multiple access points (APs) to associate with. With the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)-based AP selection algorithm, which is implemented in most commercial IEEE 802.11 clients, the AP with the best signal strength is selected regardless of the candidate AP’s available throughput, resulting in unbalanced distribution of clients among the APs in the network. Several studies have shown performance improvement in not just the new MN (nMN), but also the network as a whole when the selection process considers the current load status of candidate APs. However, the proposed algorithms in these studies assume that there are no hidden terminal problems that severely affect the performance of the network. Hidden terminal problems frequently occur in wireless networks with unlicensed frequencies, like IEEE 802.11 in the 2.4 GHz band. Moreover, none of the previous studies have considered frame aggregation, a major improvement in transmission efficiency introduced and widely deployed with the IEEE 802.11n standard. In this paper, we propose a new AP selection algorithm based on the estimation of available throughput calculated with a model based on the IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function in consideration of hidden terminal problems and frame aggregation. The proposed algorithm is evaluated through extensive simulation, and the results show that the nMN with the proposed AP selection algorithm can achieve up to 55.84% and 22.31% higher throughput compared to the traditional RSSI-based approach and the selection algorithm solely based on the network load, respectively.  相似文献

The explosive increase in data demand coupled with the rapid deployment of various wireless access technologies have led to the increase of number of multi-homed or multi-interface enabled devices. Fully exploiting these interfaces has motivated researchers to propose numerous solutions that aggregate their available bandwidths to increase overall throughput and satisfy the end-user’s growing data demand. These solutions, however, do not utilize their interfaces to the maximum without network support, and more importantly, have faced a steep deployment barrier. In this paper, we propose an optimal deployable bandwidth aggregation system (DBAS) for multi-interface enabled devices. We present the DBAS architecture that does not introduce any intermediate hardware, modify current operating systems, modify socket implementations, nor require changes to current applications or legacy servers. The DBAS architecture is designed to automatically estimate the characteristics of applications and dynamically schedule various connections and/or packets to different interfaces. We also formulate our optimal scheduler as a mixed integer programming problem yielding an efficient solution. We evaluate DBAS via implementation on the Windows OS and further verify our results with simulations on NS2. Our evaluation shows that, with current Internet characteristics, DBAS reaches the throughput upper bound with no modifications to legacy servers. It also highlights the significant enhancements in the response time introduced by DBAS, which directly enhances the user experience.  相似文献

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are envisaged to play crucial role in psychological, medical and non-medical applications. This paper presents iM-SIMPLE; a reliable, and power efficient routing protocol with high throughput for WBAN. We deploy sensor nodes on human body to measure the physiological parameters such as blood pressure, temperature, glucose, lactic acid, EMG, acceleration, pressure, and position. Data from sensors is forwarded to intermediate node, from where it is transmitted to sink. An end user can access the required information available at sink via internet. To minimize energy consumption of the network, we utilize multi-hop mode of communication. A cost function is introduced to select the forwarder; node with high residual energy and least distance to sink has minimum cost function value and is selected. Residual energy parameter balances the energy consumption among the sensor nodes, and least distance improves packet delivery to sink because of reduced less path loss. We formulate the minimum energy consumption and high throughput problems as an Integer Linear Program. In order to support mobility, we also consider two body postures. Simulation results confirm the performance advantage of iM-SIMPLE compared to contemporary schemes in terms of maximizing stability period and throughput of the network.  相似文献

The time slotted system with rate regulation, which adapts the transmission rate to the interference for each time slot, is proposed to enhance the throughput while meeting the SINR requirement for cochannel interference limited wireless ad hoc networks. We show that the throughput of the rate regulated TDMA system is larger than that of the rate regulated TDMA/CDMA system. Furthermore, we also propose a scheduling algorithm to maximize the total throughput of the rate regulated TDMA system.  相似文献

The present paper considers a stochastic optimal control problem for a one-machine two-parts manufacturing system, subject to random breakdowns and repairs. The machine under consideration is not completely flexible and hence requires set-up time and cost in order to switch the production from a part type to another. The objective is to find the production plan and sequence of set-ups that minimize the cost function that penalizes inventory/backlog and set-up costs. A continuous dynamic programming formulation of the problem is presented. A numerical scheme is then adopted to solve the obtained optimality conditions equations. The optimal set-up policy. is shown numerically, to be described by a modified hedging corridor strategy. A complete heuristic policy, based on the determination of the boundaries of the corridors that describe the optimal policy in positive and negative areas of the state variables, is developed. The usefulness of such a policy is iJlustrated through experimentation and sensitivity analysis. Extensions to more complex systems are also discussed.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to stress the importance of selecting the right plantwide control structure and the need for a formalized approach that can encompass the many issues that arise in plantwide control design. Since the concept of process control design based on a holistic view of the process came about, the variety of procedures and approaches to the design problem has illustrated the difficulty of a unified approach. Using examples, the need and advantages of using a systematic approach based on considering the plant economics are highlighted. The examples deal with disturbance rejection, throughput maximization and economic optimization of plants consisting of parallel units.  相似文献
