The paper is the second in a set of two papers, which are devoted to a unified approach to the problem of completeness of the generalized eigenvectors (the root vectors) for a specific class of linear non‐selfadjoint unbounded matrix differential operators. The list of the problems for which such operators are the dynamics generators includes the following: (a) initial boundary‐value problem (IBVP) for a non‐homogeneous string with both distributed and boundary damping; (b) IBVP for small vibrations of an ideal filament with a one‐parameter family of dissipative boundary conditions at one end and with a heavy load at the other end; this filament problem is treated for two cases of the boundary parameter: non‐singular and singular; (c) IBVP for a three‐dimensional damped wave equation with spherically symmetric coefficients and both distributed and boundary damping; (d) IBVP for a system of two coupled hyperbolic equations constituting a Timoshenko beam model with variable coefficients and boundary damping; (e) IBVP for a coupled Euler‐Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam model with boundary energy dissipation (the model known in engineering literature as bending‐torsion vibration model); (f) IBVP for two coupled Timoshenko beams model, which is currently accepted as an appropriate model describing vibrational behavior of a longer double‐walled carbon nanotube. An iterative domain decomposition method is developed to solve a singular perturbation problem. The problem consists of a convection-diffusion equation with a discontinuous (piecewise-constant) diffusion coefficient, and the problem domain is decomposed into two subdomains, on each of which the coefficient is constant. After showing that the boundary value problem is well posed, we indicate a specific numerical implementation of the iterative technique that combines the finite element method on one subdomain with the method of matched asymptotic expansions on the other subdomain. This procedure extends work by Carlenzoli and Quarteroni, which was originally intended for a boundary layer problem with an outer region and an inner region. Our extension carries over to a problem where the domain consists of the outer and inner boundary layer regions plus a region in which the diffusion coefficient is constant and significant in magnitude. An unexpected benefit of our new implementation is its efficiency, which is due to the fact that at each iteration the problem needs to be solved explicitly only on one subdomain. It is only when the final approximation on the entire domain is desired that the matched asymptotic expansions approximation need be computed on the second subdomain. Two-dimensional convergence results and numerical results illustrating the method for a two-dimensional test problem are given.Received: February 12, 2004  相似文献

By using Pontryagin's maximum principle we determine the shape of the strongest column positioned in a constant gravity field, simply supported at the lower end and clamped at upper end (with the possibility of axial sliding). It is shown that the cross-sectional area function is determined from the solution of a nonlinear boundary value problem. A variational principle for this boundary value problem is formulated and two first integrals are constructed. These integrals lead to an a priori estimate of the value of one the missing initial condition and to the reduction of the order of the system. The optimal shape of a column is determined by numerical integration.  相似文献

The propagation of a two-dimensional fluid-driven fracture in impermeable rock is considered. The fluid flow in the fracture is laminar. By applying lubrication theory a partial differential equation relating the half-width of the fracture to the fluid pressure is derived. To close the model the PKN formulation is adopted in which the fluid pressure is proportional to the half-width of the fracture. By considering a linear combination of the Lie point symmetries of the resulting non-linear diffusion equation the boundary value problem is expressed in a form appropriate for a similarity solution. The boundary value problem is reformulated as two initial value problems which are readily solved numerically. The similarity solution describes a preexisting fracture since both the total volume and length of the fracture are initially finite and non-zero. Applications in which the rate of fluid injection into the fracture and the pressure at the fracture entry are independent of time are considered.  相似文献

We consider a mathematical model which describes the bilateral contact between a deformable body and an obstacle. The process is quasistatic, the material is assumed to be viscoelastic with long memory and the friction is modeled with Tresca’s law. The problem has a unique weak solution. Here we study spatially semi-discrete and fully discrete schemes using finite differences and finite elements. We show the convergence of the schemes under the basic solution regularity and we derive order error estimates. Finally, we present an algorithm for the numerical realization and simulations for a two-dimensional test problem.  相似文献

A cylindrically orthotropic elastic solid is excited by a point impulsive body force. The solid contains a semi-infinite stress free crack. The resulting anti-plane wave motion problem has been solved in the form of a finite series representing the incident and reflected pulses plus an integral representing the diffraction pulse. The series part of the solution has been previously treated. In the present investigation the diffraction integral is integrated when λ (which measures the anisotropy of the solid) is an odd integer number. The diffraction integral is also integrated when λ is half an odd integer, for the special case in which the source lies in the plane of the crack and parallel to the crack edge. The displacement jump across the circular diffraction wave front is given for unrestricted (positive) values of λ.  相似文献

We develop a new multiwave version of the range test for shape reconstruction in inverse scattering theory. The range test [R. Potthast, et al., A ‘range test’ for determining scatterers with unknown physical properties, Inverse Problems 19(3) (2003) 533–547] has originally been proposed to obtain knowledge about an unknown scatterer when the far field pattern for only one plane wave is given. Here, we extend the method to the case of multiple waves and show that the full shape of the unknown scatterer can be reconstructed. We further will clarify the relation between the range test methods, the potential method [A. Kirsch, R. Kress, On an integral equation of the first kind in inverse acoustic scattering, in: Inverse Problems (Oberwolfach, 1986), Internationale Schriftenreihe zur Numerischen Mathematik, vol. 77, Birkhäuser, Basel, 1986, pp. 93–102] and the singular sources method [R. Potthast, Point sources and multipoles in inverse scattering theory, Habilitation Thesis, Göttingen, 1999]. In particular, we propose a new version of the Kirsch–Kress method using the range test and a new approach to the singular sources method based on the range test and potential method. Numerical examples of reconstructions for all four methods are provided.  相似文献

 Single phase Ba-free Sr-based YSr2Cu 3-x M x O7+δ (M=Mo, W and Re) compounds have been stabilized by chemical doping. Superconductivity is observed for these phases in the range 30–45 K. X-ray diffraction studies suggest a relatively small orthorhombicity compared to Ba-analogue. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic investigations reveal that the stabilizing cations are in the hexavalent state. The observation of the higher oxidation state of M-ions accounts for the excess oxygen content in these phases which is in accordence with the diffraction results.
