Properties of Carbopol Solutions as Models for Yield-Stress Fluids

ABSTRACT: The effect of pH on the non-Newtonian viscosity (η)of aqueous Carbopol 940 solutions is presented with high resolution (pH increments about 0.4) between pH = 2.8 and 12.7. Aqueous NaOH was used to adjust pH of 1.48 wt % Carbopol solutions. A Contraves viscometer was used to measure steady-flow shear stress at known shear rate (γ) over the range γ= 8 to 195 s⁻¹. Yield stresses and shear-thinning η(γ) were observed. Data were fitted with a Herschel-Bulkley model, whose parameters (including yield stress) were expressed as functions of pH. Comparisons were made of η(γ) to the dynamic viscometric properties η'(ω) and η*(ω) for comparable ranges of γ and frequency (ω): A fairly close match was found between η and η* but η«η'. pH dependence included previously unreported extrema of h(pH) in the range of pH = 6.2 to 6.6. Because of sensitive control of rheological properties with pH, Carbopol solutions can be used to mimic a great range of shear-thinning and yield-stress behavior that should make them useful for model studies directed toward process and equipment design and evaluation.     

Viscosity estimation for slags containing calcium fluoride

Based on recently published experimental data, the Riboud model was modified for viscosity estimation of the slags containing calcium fluoride. The estimated values were in good agreement with measured data. Reasonable estimation can be achieved using the modified Riboud model for mould fluxes and ESR (eletro slag remelting) slags. Especially for ESR slags, the modified Riboud model can provide much more precise values than the original Riboud model.     

交联透明质酸的降解及其释药性能

用己二酸二酰肼（ADH）对透明质酸（HA）进行化学修饰，制备交联透明质酸（HA-ADH）薄膜。粘度法测试表明HA-ADH是一种可降解的生物材料，并且与HA相比，HA．ADH的降解速率减慢。在此基础上，研究了以疏水性的替硝唑（TDZ）和亲水性的头孢唑啉钠（CEZ）为模拟药物的HA-ADH药物载体薄膜的释药性能。紫外-可见（UV-Vis）吸收光谱检测表明，HA-ADH是一种疏水性药物TDZ的优良缓释制荆，这是由于TDZ的疏水性和HA-ADH薄膜的缓慢溶胀和降解性能的结合而得到的，药物的释放主要受扩散机制控制。     

氧气顶吹转炉溅渣护炉试验研究

采用水力模型研究方法 ,针对马钢 2 0t转炉进行溅渣护炉冷态模拟试验 ,得出最佳工艺参数为 :枪位 1680mm ,氮气流量为 110 0 0m3/h ,大流渣量 ,渣粘度适中。此外 ,在满足炼钢生产的条件下 ,采用夹角为 13°的喷头溅渣效果好     

Characterization of rheological properties of systems containing sugar substitutes and carrageenan

The effects of addition of κ-carrageenan to solutions containing 40% (w/w) sugar substitute on the rheological properties of these systems were investigated at 25 °C using a rotational viscometer at rotational speeds of 6, 12, 30, and 60 rev min⁻¹. The flow behaviour of the solutions was adequately described by the power law model with or without yield stress. The consistency index ( K ) and the flow behaviour index ( n ) were determined from shear stress vs. shear rate data. The flow parameters of the solutions depended on the carrageenan concentration. The apparent viscosities of the systems decreased with increasing shear rate, indicating pseudoplastic behaviour. The final carrageenan concentration was found to be an effective factor controlling the degree of sliminess of the model food systems studied.     

Liquid viscosities and densities of HFC-134a+glycol mixtures

Liquid viscosity and density of six binary mixtures of HFC-134a with glycols [ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol (400), and polypropylene glycol (2000)] have been measured in the temperature range from 273 to 333 K. The viscosity was measured by a rolling-ball viscometer calibrated with standard liquids of viscosities and densities (JS5, JS10, JS20, and JS50). The density was measured with a glass pycnometer. The uncertainties of the measurements were estimated to be less than 3.4 % for viscosity and 0.04 % for density, respectively. An equation is given to represent the obtained viscosity values as a function of weight fraction and temperature.     

油气两相压降数值试井模型及其典型曲线的规律

提出油气两相流动压降试井数字模型的数值解法，用此解法对均质油藏中油气两相流动试井的规律进行了研究，根据实例计算结果，分析油气两相流下典型压降试井曲线的特征，以及油、气的初始饱和度分布，两相黏度比，饱和度梯度、相对渗透率关系对试井曲线的影响和相应的作用机理，首次发现气体的存在会使油气两相试井的压力导数曲线表现出类似于单相流双重介质试井的压力导数曲线的“下凹”特征。     

基于Patel-Teja状态方程的统一粘度模型(Ⅱ)应用于油气藏流体粘度的预测

基于(I)报根据pVT和Tμp图形的相似性和Patel-Teja状态方程建立的预测纯流体气、液相粘度的统一模型,通过引入常规的状态方程参数的混合规则,将其应用于二元轻烃混合物共计1894个数据点及模拟天然气高压粘度的预测,平均相对误差分别为13.78%和16.75%;应用于油藏原油和天然气高压粘度的预测,结果优于现有的有关油气藏流体粘度模型.     

Vapor-phase viscosity of phenol

New measurements of the vapor-phase viscosity of phenol were performed from 437 up to 624 K and for densities between 0.006 and 0.023 mol · L^–1 in an all-quartz oscillating-disk viscometer with small gaps. Thus, including our own measurements reported earlier, experimental data are available in the temperature range between 376 and 639 K and in the density range from 0.001 up to 0.023 mol · L^–1. The data were evaluated with a density series for the viscosity in which only a linear density contribution is included. The values of the second viscosity virial coefficient obtained for phenol as well as for benzene, toluene, and p-xylene were compared with results of the Rainwater-Friend theory and of the modified Enskog theory on the basis of the Lennard-Jones 12-6 potential. The agreement is reasonable, when the potential parameter ratios determined by Bich and Vogel are used. The influence of bound dimers seems to be already taken into account in the three-monomer contribution according to Hoffman and Curtiss.Paper dedicated to Professor Joseph Kestin.
