Linguistic Knowledge, Processing Speed, and Metacognitive Knowledge in First- and Second-Language Reading Comprehension: A Componential Analysis.

The authors report results of a study into the role of components of first-language (L1; Dutch) and second-language (L2; English) reading comprehension. Differences in the contributions of components of L1 and L2 reading comprehension are analyzed, in particular processing speed in L1 and L2. Findings indicate that regression weights of the L1 and L2 components are different. Although correlations between most processing speed components and reading comprehension are substantial, there are no unique contributions to the explanation of either L1 or L2 reading comprehension when linguistic and metacognitive knowledge are accounted for. In addition, L1 reading comprehension is shown to have a large contribution to L2 reading comprehension, supporting theories of L1-L2 transfer of reading skills. Effect of Annealing on the Surface Microstructure of Y-Ba-Cu-O Superconducting Ceramics

Precusors to the YBa₂Cu₃O_7-δ material were prepared by both the oxalate precipitation method and conventional ceramic processing. Second-phase grains were observed to develop on the exposed fracture surface during annealing at 500° to 600°C in an ambient atmosphere. The second-phase grains were identified to be BaCO₃ using EDX and XRD. The liquid phase, which was formed because of local chemical inhomogeneity in the Y-Ba-Cu-O system, contributed to the formation of second-phase grains as a source of Ba.

带钢横向折痕成因及解决措施

 承钢带钢厂在生产高速公路护栏板时出现了横向折痕缺陷，经调研，许多生产厂家都产生过此缺陷。采用现场跟踪、试验、分析、排查和理论分析、研究相结合的方法，找到了带钢产生横向折痕的原因，主要是卷取机二次扩张张力过大。弄清了产生缺陷的机制并采取减小卷取机二次扩张力和张缩块间间隙等措施，问题得到了圆满解决。     

Sound-velocity measurements for HFC-134a and HFC-152a with a spherical resonator

A spherical acoustic resonator was developed for measuring sound velocities in the gaseous phase and ideal-gas specific heats for new refrigerants. The radius of the spherical resonator, being about 5 cm, was determined by measuring sound velocities in gaseous argon at temperatures from 273 to 348 K and pressures up to 240 kPa. The measurements of 23 sound velocities in gaseous HFC-134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) at temperatures of 273 and 298 K and pressures from 10 to 250 kPa agree well with the measurements of Goodwin and Moldover. In addition, 92 sound velocities in gaseous HFC-152a (1,1-difluoroethane) with an accuracy of ±0.01% were measured at temperatures from 273 to 348 K and pressures up to 250 kPa. The ideal-gas specific heats as well as the second acoustic virial coefficients have been obtained for both these important alternative refrigerants. The second virial coefficients for HFC-152a derived from the present sound velocity measurements agree extremely well with the reported second virial coefficient values obtained with a Burnett apparatus.Paper dedicated to Professor Joseph Kestin.

Analytical investigations of transitional operating modes of the second circuit of units at NPP with water-moderated reactors with consideration of control systems

A mathematical model for analysis of process parameters of equipment in the second circuit of nuclear power plants is presented, and the structure of the program and principles used for analysis of the equipment are described. A mathematical model for analysis of the deaerator and steam generator is described in detail.
