ObjectiveThe study aimed at evaluating in vitro the effect of caffeine on expression of cystatin SN, a potential marker of sensitivity to bitterness in humans.MethodsDifferentiation of human submandibular gland (HSG) cells was induced by culturing cells on Matrigel. Caffeine cytotoxicity was assessed over 3 days by the Resazurin test. Finally, effects of 5, 50 and 100 μM caffeine exposure on cystatin SN expression were explored over 3 days by ELISA.ResultsAt concentrations relevant to human adult plasma levels (5, 50 and 100 μM), caffeine did not affect cell viability whether cells were differentiated or not. Cystatin SN levels were overall higher in differentiated cells and increased with time in both conditions. There was a significant (p < 0.001) effect of caffeine on cystatin SN expression specifically in differentiated cells.ConclusionsThe HSG cell line proved to be a relevant tool to study in vitro the effect of caffeine at concentrations consistent with dietary intake in human subjects. The results suggest that salivary cystatin SN abundance may depend on caffeine intake, with possible consequences on taste sensitivity.  相似文献

Hypersalivation is a common and distressing complaint in children with neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral palsy. Complications associated with severe drooling include daily changes of clothing, perioral dermatitis, dental problems, dehydration, and aspiration pneumonia, which potentially have a detrimental effect on the quality of life of the patient and carer. In this paper we update our previous work to show the potential benefits of ultrasound-guided injection of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) into the submandibular gland and report on new patients and follow-up data on the existing group.  相似文献

目的:了解老年患者颌下腺肿瘤的组织学类型及临床病理特征。方法:对96例老年患者颌下腺肿瘤临床病理资料进行统计学分析。结果:良性上皮性肿瘤71例(73.96%),恶性上皮性肿瘤25例(26.04%)。多形性腺瘤居良性上皮性肿瘤的首位,腺样囊性癌居恶性上皮性肿瘤的首位。良、恶性上皮性肿瘤的男女性别比为0.92:1和1.5:1:良性肿瘤平均年龄66岁、恶性肿瘤平均年龄69岁。颌下腺肿瘤复发率为4.17%,多形性腺瘤占75%。结论:多形性腺瘤和腺样囊性癌分别是最常见的良、恶性上皮性肿瘤;良性上皮性肿瘤多见于女性,恶性上皮性肿瘤多见于男性;多形性腺瘤易复发。  相似文献

We report a new use of the tissue expander for reshaping a breast after resection of a giant tumour. After resection of giant fibroadenomas, two patients had expanders inserted into the tissue defect and gradually reduced in size over five months. This facilitated healing and natural skin shrinkage and resulted in a natural shape and size.  相似文献

We have evaluated transplantation of reduced submandibular glands for the treatment of severe keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Thirty-four rabbits were allocated into three groups: dry eye (controls, n=10), transplantation of whole submandibular glands (n=12), and transplantation of reduced submandibular glands (n=12). Outcome measures included the results of Schirmer's test and the Rose Bengal test, and histological examination of the cornea and the transplanted gland. Volume of tears significantly increased after transplantation of the whole gland, but did not change after transplantation of the reduced gland compared with dry eyes induced preoperatively. Neither transplantion group had keratoconjunctivitis sicca postoperatively. There were no histological abnormalities in the transplanted tissues. The results that the surgical technique of using reduced submandibular glands for transplantation was feasible, and that the secretion from the reduced gland was similar to that from a normal lacrimal gland. In conclusion, transplantation of a reduced submandibular glands is feasible in the treatment of keratoconjunctivitis sicca.  相似文献

目的:探讨多层螺旋CT(MDCT)对涎腺结石的诊断价值及MDCT表现,了解其影像特点。方法:对具有完整头颈部MDCT资料并经手术病理证实的31例涎腺结石的MDCT进行回顾性分析。结果:31例患者共计有阳性结石39个,下颌下腺结石30例(96.77%),7例患者(22.58%)具有多发结石,18例(58.06%)病例伴有明显的炎性症状,结石体积、结石的位置与下颌下腺炎性症状相关,结石越靠后、结石体积越大,下颌下腺炎性症状就越重。结论:MDCT对涎腺结石的诊断有重要的应用价值,能确定结石的形态、数目、大小并定位,为临床手术治疗提供依据。  相似文献

The saliva secreted from submandibular gland (SMG) accounts for 60%-65%. It plays an important role in maintaining the human function of swallow, digestion, testing, speech, protection of oral mucosa, and prevention from dental carries. The SMG is frequently resected during the treatment for various kinds of oral and maxillofacial diseases, resulting in xerostomia and decreased quality of life. During the past 15 years, Research Center of Salivary Gland Diseases in Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology conducted a series of studies on new techniques for preservation of SMG and achieved remarkable results. The clinicopathologic and imaging characteristics of IgG4-related sialadenitis (IgG4-RS) were clarified based on systematic studies. The results of studies on the pathogenesis of IgG4-RS showed that unbalance of inflammatory factors mediated the abnormality of secretion of SMG. IL-4 participates in occurring and development of glandular fibrosis of SMG. Regulation of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and cleaning of senescent cells might be taken as the targets for treatment of IgG4-RS. The combination of glucocorticoid and steroid-sparing agents showed effective results for treating IgG4-RS, clinical remission was achieved in all the patients, serum IgG4 levels decreased, and salivary gland secretion significantly increased. Sialoendoscopy-assisted sialolithectomy was applied in the treatment of about 1 000 cases with submandibular hilar calculi with a success rate of more than 90%. Transfer of SMG was used for prevention from radiation-induced xerostomia in the patients with head and neck carcinoma. SMG was transferred to the submental region before radiotherapy and was kept away from the ra-diation field. The results of prospective clinical controlled study showed this technique could effectively preserve the function of SMG and prevent from xerostomia. Based on the micro-anatomical study on the blood vessels and ducts of SMG, partial sialoadenectomy was applied for treatment of benign tumors in the SMG. A clinical controlled study confirmed its safety for control of the tumors and its advantage of preservation of SMG function. The studies on the involvement of SMG in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) provided the anatomical and histopathological basis for preservation of SMG during neck dissection for early cases with OSCC. A innovated surgical modality "four preservations including SMG" was used during the neck dissection for the early cases with OSCC. A prospective randomized clinical controlled study confirmed its safety, feasibility, effectiveness for control of the carcinoma, and advantages of preservation of SMG function.  相似文献

Background: Acne is a common and chronic inflammatory dermatosis of sebaceous gland units of the human hair follicle. Acne is closely related to immune cytokines and cells including T helper 17cells (Th17 cells). Mis-regulated glycolipid metabolism also plays a vital role in the process. Objective: This investigation aimed to explore the role of IL-17 in signaling pathways controlling sebaceous gland lipoprotein metabolism in a rat model of acne. Methods: We generated the rat ear acne model, and investigated the pathological changes of acne skin tissue by histological analysis and the changes in the critical factors including DEFB1, GPR65, FADS1, and FADS2 by Western Blot in this model. Results: There were more Th17 cells in the rat ear acne model than in the control mice. The expression levels of DEFB1, GPR65, FADS1, FADS2 and MOGAT1 were significantly upregulated in serum and tissue from rat acne model, which could be concluded that the Th17 cells play a major role in the pathogenesis of acne based. Conclusion: Although acne is associated with immune effects and glycolipid metabolism, inhibition of IL-17 signaling pathway might be a novel way for acne therapy. Our findings also suggest a new strategy for targeted therapy of acne.  相似文献

Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a distinct form of chronic pancreatitis that has been increasingly recognised over the last decades and shows a good response to corticosteroid treatment. Two different forms of AIP have been characterized. Type 1 AIP is the pancreatic manifestation of IgG4-related disease and often affects multiple organ systems. In contrast, type 2 AIP is confined to the pancreas and involvement of extra-pancreatic organs has previously only very rarely been reported, except for an association with inflammatory bowel disease. The hallmark lesion of type 2 AIP is the granulocyte epithelial lesion (GEL), showing infiltration of neutrophilic granulocytes in the epithelium of pancreatic ducts and their accumulation in the duct lumen. We present a 61-year-old female patient who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy with a postoperative histological diagnosis of type 2 AIP. Three months later, she underwent colectomy and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. One year later, she presented with swelling and pain of the right-sided submandibular salivary gland which was resected. Sialadenitis with lymphoplasmacytic inflammation, obliterative phlebitis, fibrosis and frequent accumulation of neutrophilic granulocytes in ducts, reminiscent of GELs, without IgG4-positivity or epitheloid cell granulomas, was found. Later, she presented with swelling and pain related to the left-sided submandibular gland, which resolved after steroid treatment. We describe the clinical, histological and immunohistochemical findings in this patient. It may be hypothesized that the sialadenitis may represent a rare extrapancreatic manifestation of, alternatively a rare association with, type 2 AIP or ulcerative colitis.  相似文献
