Phenolic foam exhibits outstanding flame, smoke and toxicity properties, good insulation properties and low production costs. However, the brittleness and pulverization of phenolic foam have severely limited its application in many fields. In this study, a novel phosphorus‐containing polyurethane prepolymer (DOPU) modifier was firstly synthesized, and then the foaming formula and processing of toughening phenolic foam modified with DOPU and glass fiber were explored. The structure and reactive behavior of prepolymer and phenolic resin were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The effects of DOPU and glass fiber on the apparent density, compressive strength, bending strength and water absorption were investigated. The results suggested that the apparent density, compressive strength and bending strength of modified phenolic foam tended to increase irregularly with increasing content of DOPU. The addition of DOPU led to lower water absorption of glass fiber‐filled foam. Thermal stability and flame retardancy were examined using thermogravimetric analysis and limiting oxygen index (LOI) tests. It was found that foam with 3% DOPU and 0.5% glass fiber added exhibited good thermal stability and high char yields. The LOI value of modified phenolic foams decreased with increasing DOPU content, but it still remained at 41.0% even if the amount of modifier loaded was 10 wt%. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Functionalized graphene nanosheets (f-GNSs) were synthesized by a simple covalent functionalization of graphene with 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTES). The results from FTIR, XPS and XRD showed that MPTES was successfully attached onto the surface of graphene. Functionalized graphene/polyurethane acrylate (f-GNS/PUA) nanocomposites were prepared by UV radiation of PUA with f-GNS. The onset thermal degradation temperature of f-GNS/PUA nanocomposite was increased by 16 °C, at an f-GNS content of 1 wt%. Meanwhile, the storage modulus and glass transition temperature of the nanocomposites were enhanced by incorporating f-GNS into the PUA. This is believed to be attributed to that the covalent functionalization of graphene can improve both the dispersion of f-GNSs in the polymer matrix and the interfacial interactions between f-GNSs and PUA.  相似文献

Even though oil palm (Elaeis quineensis) stem (OPS) is highly potential as an alternative raw material in wood industry, it possesses some inferior characteristics. One of the critical weaknesses is a high degree of veneer surface roughness that resulted in high resin consumption during plywood manufacture. The objective of this study was to investigate effects of treatment with low molecular weight phenol formaldehyde (LMWPF) resin on the wettability and surface roughness of OPS veneer. OPS veneers were segregated into two categories namely outer and inner layer veneer, prior to soaking in LMWPF resin solution to obtain weight percent gain of 16–20%. The wettability of OPS veneers was assessed with contact angle measurement according to the sessile drop method. The veneer surface roughness was evaluated by determining the average roughness (Ra), mean peak-to-valley height (Rz), and maximum roughness (Rmax) using a stylus profilometer in accordance with DIN standard 4768. The results show that the effect of LMWPF resin treatment on the surface roughness of the veneers is statistically significant. The technique used in the study was able to enhance the surface properties as well as improved the physical and mechanical properties of OPS plywood.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) is the accepted method for accurately measuring the 13CO2:12CO2 ratio in the non-invasive and non-radioactive [13C]urea breath test (13C-UBT) for Helicobactor pylori. The IRMS instrument, an expensive and highly specialized analyser, is rarely available. The objective of this project was to modify and validate the use of a simple bench-top gas chromatograph-mass selective detector (GC-MSD) for 13C-UBT. METHODS: Breath samples from 71 patients were taken at baseline and 30 min after ingestion of 100 mg [13C]urea. The breath samples were analysed using GC-MSD in the selected ion monitoring mode. The reference 13CO2:12CO2 ratio was from NBS19 obtained from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology. 13CO2:12CO2 ratios of the breath samples were determined. Excess delta per thousand (per mil, delta/thousand) of the 30 min sample over the baseline (deltadelta/thousand) of > or = 6deltadelta/thousand was considered H. pylori positive. Results from 13C-UBT and histology determined blind to each other were compared. RESULTS: The coefficient of variation of the reference 13CO2:12CO2 ratio was 0.06%. Using histology as the 'gold standard', the sensitivity (97.9%) and specificity (95.8%) of the GC-MSD 13C-UBT were comparable to those of other methods of H. pylori diagnosis. CONCLUSION: A gas chromatograph coupled to a mass selective detector that is available in many analytical and biomedical laboratories can be used for the 13C-UBT. This method will increase the availability and reduce the cost of this non-invasive, non-radioactive diagnostic test.  相似文献

Abdominal symptoms such as diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and vomiting are common during and after abdominal radiotherapy for gynaecological and pelvic malignancy. It has recently been recognized that small intestinal dysmotility may contribute to these symptoms but the underlying mechanisms are unclear in part because of the technical difficulties inherent in performing studies in irradiated small intestine. The aim of the current study was to evaluate small intestinal motor activity using perfused micromanometric techniques in 6-8-cm segments of ileum during arterial perfusion with isotonic oxygenated fluorocarbon solution. Intestinal segments from six rats were studied 4 days after treatment with 10 Gy abdominal irradiation. Ileal segments from nine nonirradiated animals acted as controls. For each experiment the total number of pressure waves, high-amplitude (> 20 mmHg, long-duration > 6 sec) pressure waves, and long (> 20 associated) bursts of pressure waves were determined. Irradiation had no effect on the overall number of pressure waves, but increased high-amplitude long-duration (HALD) pressure waves (248 vs 7, P < 0.01). In control animals HALD waves were localized to a single recording site but after radiotherapy 74% of HALD waves were temporally associated with similar pressure waves in other manometric channels. Forty-seven per cent of associated HALD waves migrated aborally. Retrograde migration of HALD waves was seen in five segments following irradiation. Irradiation abolished bursts of > 20 pressure waves.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine, first, whether racial differences exist in the seroprevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in Singapore, and second, whether these differences correlate with racial differences in peptic ulcer frequency. A commercial serological test for immunoglobulin (Ig)G antibody to H. pylori which was 90% sensitive and 83% specific in our population was used to screen 403 adult blood donors of Chinese, Malay and Indian origin, aged between 15-60 years. Serum specimens from 84 paediatric patients admitted to the Paediatrics Department, National University of Singapore, with non-gastroenterological illnesses were also tested. In all three races, seroprevalence of H. pylori increased with age. Indians have the highest prevalence of infection followed by Chinese and Malays. Peptic ulcer prevalences are known to be highest in Chinese, followed by Indians and Malays. The Malays have the lowest prevalence of H. pylori and peptic ulcer among the three races in Singapore. Indians have a higher prevalence of H. pylori antibodies but a lower frequency of peptic ulcer than the Chinese. Racial differences in peptic ulcer frequency between Chinese and Indians are not explained by the prevalence of H. pylori infection; other environmental or genetic factors may be involved.  相似文献

A wide range of host reactions can be produced in response to prosthetic breast implants. Although the spectrum of histological changes is well described in the literature, the chronology and relative occurrence of these changes are not well documented. Examination of 161 capsulectomy specimens from 84 women suggested the following chronological sequence of tissue response: fibrous scar tissue; histiocyte response; foreign body giant cell reaction to extruded or exposed material including polyurethane and Dacron patch; synovial-like metaplasia; and calcification. Fibrous scar tissue was seen in all implants. Histiocytic response was noted in 107/161 of the specimens and a foreign body giant cell reaction to polyurethane was seen only in the two Meme implants. Synovial-like metaplasia was less common than previously reported, occurring in 45/161 of specimens after a mean in situ duration of 11.7 years. This peculiar process was seen only in association with a prominent histiocytic response and was not associated with calcification. Dystrophic calcification, which has been reported as occurring rarely in implant capsules, was seen in 15/161 of our specimens after a mean in situ duration of 17.7 years.  相似文献

Regulation of expression of tyrosine aminotransferase (TAT) is examined in two cell lines (FRL) obtained by chemical transformation of cultured fetal hepatocytes derived from 19-day rat fetuses (FL19). Steroid induction of TAT is unaffected by transformation, while the response to cyclic AMP is attenuated. Consequently a synergistic response elicited by the simultaneous exposure of normal fetal hepatocytes to the inducers is almost abolished in FRL cells. FL19 and FRL are similar with respect to the negative effect of insulin on steroid induction, which is a response restricted to prenatal liver. Detailed examination of chromatin reveals that the attenuated effect of cyclic AMP is consistent with the lack of the DNase I-hypersensitive site located at about the cyclic AMP response element of the TAT promoter. From the studies, we conclude that transformation results in the modification of some aspects of TAT regulation, while others have been retained, and reflects the fetal pattern which is observed in normal embryonic hepatocytes.  相似文献
