Thrombosis of the cerebral dural sinuses and veins has been described since the early 19th century.1,2 Clinically the process is characterised by diverse symptomatology and physical findings and in spite of advances in diagnostic radiological techniques it remains an under-recognised condition. It has been most commonly associated with sepsis, trauma, pregnancy, the puerperium and many other hypercoagulable states. We describe an apparently unique case of sagittal sinus thrombosis occurring during an ectopic pregnancy. This was subsequently complicated by intracranial hypertension in spite of clinical improvement and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evidence suggesting a return of venous patency. The presence of circulating immune complexes (CICs) is a characteristic feature of human lymphatic filariasis. However, the role of CICs in modulating granulocyte function and complement functional activity in filarial infection is unknown. The levels of CICs in association with complement activation in clinically asymptomatic, filarial-infected patients (INF); filarial-infected patients with overt lymphatic pathologic changes (CPDT); and uninfected controls (EN) were examined. Significantly increased levels of CICs and enhanced functional efficiency of the classical and mannose-binding lectin pathways of the complement system was observed in INF compared with CPDT and EN. Polyethylene glycol-precipitated CICs from INF and CPDT induced significantly increased granulocyte activation compared with those from EN, determined by the increased production of neutrophil granular proteins and a variety of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Thus, CIC-mediated enhanced granulocyte activation and modulation of complement function are important features of filarial infection and disease. 相似文献

The larvicidal activities of methanolic fractions from Adhatoda vasica leaf extracts were investigated against the bancroftian filariasis vector Culex quinquefasciatus and dengue vector Aedes aegypti. The results indicated that the mortality rates was high at 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm of methanol extract of fractions III

f value 0.67 and methanol extract of fraction V with R
f value 0.64 of A. vasica against all the larval instars of C. quinquefasciatus and A. aegypti. The result of log probit analysis (at 95% confidence level) revealed that lethal concentration, LC50 and LC90 values were 106.13 and 180.6 ppm for fraction III, 110.6 and 170 ppm for fraction V of C. quinquefasciatus. And, the LC50 and LC90 values were 157.5 and 215.5 ppm for fraction III of A. aegypti and 120 and 243.5 ppm for the fraction V of A. aegypti, respectively. All the tested fractions proved to have strong larvicidal activity (doses from 100 to 250 ppm) against C. quinquefasciatus and A. aegypti.
