Morphofunctional characteristics of the blast cells in acute myelomonoblastic leukemia

Morphocytochemical and immunological characteristics and indices of the cloning effectiveness were studied in agar cultures. Three types of leukemic cells were found whose ratio in the bone marrow varied in a rather wide range. The lymphoid markers (of cOLL and T-antigens) were detected on blast cells. It is established that histogenetic characteristics of the blast cells determines peculiarities of their growth in the agar culture.     

The use of monosodium glutamate in the combined therapy of patients with atrophic gastritis]

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) taken per os has been found to stimulate gastric secretion provoked by pentagastrin. MSG gave rise to a marked elevation of endogenic gastrin levels both in experimental animals and atrophic gastritis patients. Thirty-six patients with secretory gastric insufficiency received MSG as an additive to their food during combined therapy of their disease. The preparation proved to be well-tolerated, good stimulant of gastric secretion, efficient in digestion improvement. MSG is recommended as an adjuvant in combined therapy of atrophic gastritis.     

Nonlinear vibration of thin plates with initial stress by spline finite strip method

The spline finite strip method and the incremental time–space finite element procedure are used to analyse large amplitude vibration of plates with initial stresses. Two improvements for the procedure are presented. The free vibration and the internal resonance of plates with initial stress as well as the forced vibration of plates with damping and initial stress are computed. The results compared favourably with those available in other publications.     

Study of the integral antigen of the membranes of fatty globules of human milk

The glycoprotein with the molecular weight of 82,500 D (Ag3) was extracted from the native membranes of fatty globules of human milk and was purified by isoelectrofocusing. Polyclonal antisera (PCA) as well as monoclonal antibodies (MoAb)-ICO-21, ICO-22, ICO-26, ICO-29 against this membrane antigen were produced. The localization of the antigen in the human normal and malignant tissues was tested by the immunochemical technique. Apical staining of the Ag3 was in the acinus and duct cells of the normal breast. Weak staining with the antibodies to Ag3 was revealed in the epithelium cells of ovaries, bronchi, kidney tubules and uterine tubes. The far more pronounced staining of the Ag3 with PCA and MCA was observed in the cell cytoplasma both in the primary and metastatic breast and ovarian tumours. The specificity of the MoAb to Ags suggests that they will be useful in the diagnosis of the malignant disease of the breast and ovary.     

The effect of the bone marrow fibroblasts from patients with malignant diseases of the blood system on the colony-forming capacity of granulomonocytic precursor cells

The inhibiting activity of bone marrow fibroblasts and their ability to sustain survival of granulocytic cell precursors have been studied in patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia, chronic lymphoproliferative disorders, acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome. Fibroblast conditioned medium inhibits proliferation of granulomonocytic precursors stimulated by leucocyte feeder layer or leucocyte conditioned medium. The effect depends both on the presence of monocytes and the specificity of the disease. The inhibitory effect is related with long-ranged factors. Bone marrow fibroblasts are able to sustain survival of hemopoietic precursors via humoral and cell-cell mechanisms. The regulatory role of bone marrow fibroblasts in hemopoietic disorders is discussed.     

Study of precancerous changes in the rat pleural mesothelium following exposure to asbestos using scanning electron microscopy

Rat pleural mesothelium was studied 16 to 22 months after intrapleural inoculation of chrysotile-asbestos. Irregular diffuse hyperplasia and focal solid and papillary pretumoral lesions were found. The morphological picture of these lesions in SEM and light microscopy have been discussed.     

Carotenoids. Biological activities

The review provides data on the biological activities of the most prevalent carotenoids. Special attention is paid to theirs anticancer and antiatherogenic properties, immunomodulating action, cardioprotective, radioprotective and photoprotective effects.     

Rated power of conscripts in the north

The nutrition on alimentary and power value in the term active duty soldier on the North on norm No 1 (troop ration) approaches to calculated sizes (with the exception of fat deficiency) that allows to support the physical working capacity and the body mass index on high enough level. However insufficient content of vitamins (polyhypovitaminosis) in organisms of most of studied persons was revealed. The dynamics of change of nutrition status in the soldiers on the North during year shows essential dependence on the weather rigidity parameters and the seasonal factor.     

Light optical and electron microscopic studies of the tumor cells in rats exposed to vinblastine against a background of increased activity of the anticoagulating system

It is shown that the damage of sarcoma 45 cells at different stages of cell life cycle occurs under the effect of vinblastine treatment against a background of higher activity of the blood anticoagulating system. A decrease in the mitotic activity, mitosis accumulation in prophase and especially in the metaphase as well as essential changes in the interphase cell ultrastructure are detected.
