Longitudinal spillover effects of conflict resolution styles between adolescent-parent relationships and adolescent friendships.

This study longitudinally investigated spillover effects of conflict resolution styles in adolescent-parent relationships and adolescent friendships. Questionnaires about conflict resolution styles with parents and best friends were completed by adolescents from two age cohorts: 559 early adolescents (mean age 13.4) and 327 middle adolescents (mean age 17.7). Path analyses on two waves, with a three-year interval, indicated that in the early-to-middle adolescent group positive problem solving and conflict engagement spilled over from adolescent-parent relationships to adolescent friendships and not from adolescent friendships to adolescent-parent relationships. In the middle-to-late adolescent group, we found bidirectional spillover effects for these two conflict resolution styles. For withdrawal, we found bidirectional spillover effects in both cohorts. This study showed that both parents and friends set the stage for exercising and learning conflict resolution styles and thereby shape adolescents' future conflict behavior. Methods for phosphate addition in heavy salted cod (Gadus morhua L.)

Headed and gutted fresh or frozen and thawed cod (Gadus morhua L.) from the same net catch were hand filleted post rigor before carrying out small-scale salting trials. Fillets were heavy salted using three different methods introducing phosphate during injection, brining, or during pickle salting. For all salting methods, treatment with 0, 4.5, 9 or 18 g/L of the pyro and tri polyphosphate blend Carnal 2110 was carried out. Quality and chemical parameters were analyzed after 5 weeks and 6 ± 1 months of chilled storage of heavy salted fillets.     

GHG emission trading implications on energy sector in Baltic States

The article deals with the issues related to the implementation of EU greenhouse gas (GHG) emission trading scheme in Baltic States. The main objectives of the article are to analyse the main features and requirements of EU emission trading scheme and to assess the results of the first trading GHG trading period based on verified GHG emissions in Baltic States. The main aim of the article is to compare GHG emission trading results among Baltic States and provide with some insights for the next GHG trading period and assess possible implications on energy sector of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.     

Secondary Traumatization in Partners and Parents of Dutch Peacekeeping Soldiers.

This study examines secondary traumatization among 708 partners and 332 parents of Dutch peacekeepers (i.e., personnel who participated in military actions implemented by international organizations such as the United Nations). Partners or parents of peacekeepers with 4 levels of posttraumatic stress symptoms were compared on posttraumatic stress, health problems, the quality of the marital relationship, and social support. In comparison with partners of peacekeepers without posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, partners of peacekeepers with PTSD symptoms reported more sleeping and somatic problems, reported more negative social support, and judged the marital relationship as less favorable. No significant differences were found for parents. Thus, peacekeepers' stress reactions were related to various problems of their partners. Creativity in manic-depressives, cyclothymes, their normal relatives, and control subjects.

Studies of creativity and affective illness typically focus on eminent individuals in specific fields. This is the first study to select subjects solely by diagnosis, and then evaluate their overall creative accomplishments. Seventeen manic-depressives, 16 cyclothymes, and 11 normal first-degree relatives were compared with 33 controls with no personal or family history of major affective disorder, cyclothymia, or schizophrenia; 15 controls were normal and 18 carried another diagnosis. Peak creativity was assessed by raters blind to subjects' diagnosis with the use of the Lifetime Creativity Scales. Orthogonal contrasts showed (a) creativity to be significantly higher among the combined index subjects (manic-depressives, cyclothymes, and normal relatives) than among controls (p?p?     

SUPRENUM software for the symmetric eigenvalue problem

The effecient use of the SUPRENUM computer calls for a careful choice of adequate algorithms and an implementation taking into account the special characteristics of a parallel computer with distributed memory. To demonstrate these facts, well-known algorithms solving the symmetric eigenvalue problem are presented, parallelized in particular for the SUPRENUM machine.

The main problems arise in the amount of communication calls, and ways are shown to reduce this amount by using block algorithms rather than the usual ones.     

Marking urine and preputial gland secretion of male bank voles (Clethrionomys glareolus L.) chemical analyses and behavioral tests

Urine and preputial gland secretion of male bank voles were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS) (selected ion monitoring, SIM). GC-MS analyses showed the presence of hexadecyl acetate in preputial gland secretion and in marking urine but not in metabolic urine. Female bank voles responded more strongly to marking urine of males than to metabolic urine, and they responded more to preputial gland secretion (pure or added to urine) than to metabolic urine. Dominant males spent more time and marked more frequently in response to hexadecyl acetate-enriched urine than to urine alone. The opposite reaction was shown by subordinate males. The results suggest that the acetate functions in the bank voles' dominance interactions.
