A validated mathematical model was used to generate processing maps for producing near-net shapes of high-performance products by gas atomization and spray deposition. The processing maps are useful to optimize and control the manufacturing process on the shop floor for producing quality products. The number of trial runs and cost of production can be significantly reduced with the help of processing maps. Using a dispersion-strengthened aluminum alloy as an example, this article examines how processing maps can be used to choose a set of process variables for producing the end product of desired quality.  相似文献

The macula is a constituent of the sensory retina that is necessary for sharp contrast and color vision. A significant relationship has been found between tobacco smoking and age-related macular degeneration. Opsin, rhodopsin and phospholipase A2 (PLA2) are located in excitable membranes of retina which are enriched with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). A question may arise as to whether nicotine and its major metabolite cotinine influence PLA2 so that arachidonic acid (AA) and proinflammatory prostaglandins (PG) are produced in the retina. Therefore, the effects of nicotine and cotinine on the retinal PLA2 were studied. PLA2 activity of rat retinal sonicates was assayed using 1-palmitoyl-2[1-14C]arachidonyl-Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE, 2.2 nmol) as a substrate in Tris buffer (10 mM, pH 7.4) at 37 degrees C with and without nicotine or cotinine in the assay medium. These studies gave the following results: (1) Rat retinal PLA2 activity was 4.2+/-0.8 pmol PE hydrolyzed/100 ng protein/hr. (2) Nicotine in low concentrations (1-150 nM) activated PLA2 (EC50 5 nM). (3) Cotinine also activated PLA2 (EC50 300 nM). (4) Only high concentrations of nicotine (> 1.0 microM) and cotinine (> 25 microM) exhibit inhibition of PLA2. (5) All three known PLA2 inhibitors, mepacrine, 4-bromophenacyl bromide and bromoacetylcholine bromide (IC50: 0.5mM, 88 microM, 30 mM, respectively) inhibited retinal PLA2 activity. These observations suggest that polyunsaturated fatty acids are cleaved, and arachidonic acid, the precursor for prostaglandins and related pro-inflammatory mediators, is liberated by nicotine and cotinine. Oxidative stress (reduced levels of antioxidants), vascular insufficiency, as well as activation of PLA2 by nicotine and cotinine may contribute for retinal degeneration in smokers during aging.  相似文献

The present work aims at proposing a new wavelet representation formula for rotation invariant feature extraction. The algorithm is a multilevel representation formula involving no wavelet decomposition in standard sense. Using the radial symmetry property, that comes inherently in the new representation formula, we generate the feature vectors that are shown to be rotation invariant. We show that, using a hybrid data mining technique, the algorithm can be used for rotation invariant content based image retrieval (CBIR). The proposed rotation invariant retrieval algorithm, suitable for both texture and nontexture images, avoids missing any relevant images but may retrieve some other images which are not very relevant. We show that the higher precision can however be achieved by pruning out irrelevant images.  相似文献

Doppler-broadened annihilation radiation spectra have been measured as a function of temperature from 77 K to 300 K, for several high temperature oxide superconductors viz single-phase YBCO, single- and mixed-phase Tl-Ca-Ba-Cu-O and Bi-Ca-Sr-Cu-O compounds. The temperature-dependent parameters extracted respond to a change at the onset of superconducting transition. The observations point to involvement of oxygen valence electrons at the onset of superconducting transition. Also a possible structural change and/or increase in electron density at the oxygen vacancy/defect sites seem to accompany the transition. In addition, the parameters derived are seen to be sensitive to the presence of more than one superconducting phases in mixed phase samples.  相似文献

Ascorbic acid degradation experiments were performed in buffer solution at pH 3.5 using a batch ohmic heater with uncoated stainless steel electrodes. The electrical conductivity of the buffer solution was adjusted using sodium chloride. The concentration of ascorbic acid was found using an HPLC technique. Kinetics of degradation can be described adequately by a first order model for both conventional and ohmic treatments, but unlike conventional heating, the temperature dependence of degradation for some ohmic treatments cannot be represented by the Arrhenius relation. During ohmic heating, power, temperature and NaCl content affect the degradation rate. A number of reactions, including electrode reactions, electrolysis of the solution, as well as reactions between electrode materials and electrolysis products may influence the reaction mechanism as well as kinetic parameters. At the highest power and salt content, citrate complexation and a significant loss of buffering capacity were noted, resulting in an increase in pH. The results underline the importance of inert electrode coatings, or the use of high frequency power for control of electrochemical reactions.  相似文献

The microstructural changes of Al-22 wt%U and Al-46 wt%U alloys containing 3 wt% Zr were investigated after heat treatment at 620°C for 1 to 45 days. Though it is reported that addition of 3 wt% Zr stabilizes the (U,Zr)Al3 phase at room temperature, the present investigation shows that the (U,Zr)Al3 phase is not stable but slowly transforms to the U0.9Al4 phase. The high temperature creep curves generated for these ternary alloys showed a wavy pattern which also suggests that the (U,Zr)Al3 phase is not stable.  相似文献

The authors formulate an input design problem for choosing proper inputs for use in single-input-single-output (SISO) online identification and model reference adaptive control algorithms. When the convergence rate divided by the adaptation gain is optimized for this adaptation gain going to zero, characterization of the optimal inputs is given in the frequency domain and is arrived at through the use of averaging theory. An expression for what is termed the average information matrix is derived and its properties are studied. To solve the input design problem, the authors recast the design problem in the form of an optimization which maximizes the smallest eigenvalue of the average information matrix over power constrained signals. Non-contact processing technique involving the use of CW and pulsed CO2 laser irradiation has been used for reducing the core loss of cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon steel. Laser scribing perpendicular to the rolling direction resulted in a refinement of domain wall spacing which subsequently reduced the loss of silicon steel. It was found that laser irradiation was more effective in a specimen with higher magnetic induction (Hi-B) and the loss was reduced by more than 10% under optimum conditions of the laser irradiation and the scribing speed. Since laser processing is a non-contact technique, it can be easily applied to the production line of the silicon steel.  相似文献
