A simple method for quality assessment of heated oils and fats is described. The proposed method involves precise determination
of molecular weight averages (MWA)viz., the weight average molecular weight (
), the number average molecular weight (
) and the Z-average molecular weight (
) by high performance size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) and their quantitative correlation to percent polar material obtained
by column chromatography (CC). Change in MWA on heat treatment of fourteen different edible oils and fats at 180° ± 2°C for
eight 8-hr days is studied. Relative standard deviations and regression coefficients of correlation between MWA and their
ratios (

} and {
)vs percent polar material have been reported. Probable discard time was predicted for all the oils based on the above-mentioned
correlations and also from the percent of high molecular weight (H. Mwt) species formed. It was observed that the oils which
are generally recommended for coronary patients deteriorated faster. A possibility of extending this methodology to the frying
oils is suggested.

The Diels-Alder reaction between alkali conjugated and elaidinized safflower oil fatty acids and maleic anhydride was studied
under various experimental conditions. The principal product which was obtained in 51–55% yields was a mixture of the adduct
of maleic anhydride and maleic acid in 40∶60 proportions. The isolation and properties of this mixed adducts from the reaction
mixture and their conversion to trimethyl, tributyl and triallyl esters are described. The trimethyl ester was also obtained
in good yield from the methyl esters of the fatty acids and dimethyl maleate. 相似文献

Application of13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for detection of castor oil (CO) in various edible oils, such as coconut oil,
palm oil, groundnut oil and mustard oil, is described. Characteristic signals observed at δ 132.4, δ 125.6, δ 71.3, δ 36.8
and δ 35.4 ppm, due to C10, C9, C12, C13 and C11 carbons of ricinoleic acid (RA) in CO, were selected for distinguishing it
from edible oils. Quantitative13C NMR spectra of oils were recorded in CDCl3 with a gated decoupling technique. The minimum detection limits for qualitative and quantitative analyses were 2.0 and 3.0%,
respectively. The proposed method is simple, nondestructive and requires no sample pretreatment. Its application to heat-abused
oils has also been demonstrated successfully without any of the interferences observed in most other methods. 相似文献

Polyoxyethyleneglycol (PEG-600) monoesters of undecylenic, lauric, myristic, palmitic, stearic, oleic, ricinoleic and 12-hydroxystearic
acids were prepared in 80-85% yield by reacting PEG with boric acid, esterifying the resultant borate with fatty acid, and
selectively hydrolyzing the borate ester; their surface active properties were evaluated. Increase in acyl chain length increased
the surface tension. The presence of a double bond or hydroxyl group in C18 series improved the wetting and emulsifying proper-ties. Unsaturation in the fatty acid chain reduced the foaming power. 相似文献

The Diels-Alder adducts from alkali conjugated and elaidinized safflower fatty acids with acrylic, methacrylic, crotonic and
cinnamic acids and their esters as dienophiles were obtained in 40–64% yields. Low yields of 16–18% were obtained when 10-undecenoic
acid and its ester were used. Most of the adducts could be estimated quantitatively in the reaction products by column chromatography
or gas liquid chromatography (GLC). For the estimation of the adducts from crotonic and 10-undecenoic acids a combination
of column chromatography and GLC techniques was employed. Partitioning between hexane and 90% methanol, partial esterification
with alkali washing, and splitting and fractional distillation under reduced pressure were methods used to obtain the adducts

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) deployed in hostile environments suffer from a high rate of node failure. We investigate the effect of such failure rate on network connectivity. We provide a formal analysis that establishes the relationship between node density, network size, failure probability, and network connectivity. We show that large networks can maintain connectivity despite a significantly high probability of node failure. We derive mathematical functions that provide lower bounds on network connectivity in WSNs. We compute these functions for some realistic values of node reliability, area covered by the network, and node density, to show that, for instance, networks with over a million nodes can maintain connectivity with a probability exceeding 95% despite node failure probability exceeding 53%. 相似文献

This paper presents two types of nonlinear controllers for an autonomous quadrotor helicopter. One type, a feedback linearization
controller involves high-order derivative terms and turns out to be quite sensitive to sensor noise as well as modeling uncertainty.
The second type involves a new approach to an adaptive sliding mode controller using input augmentation in order to account
for the underactuated property of the helicopter, sensor noise, and uncertainty without using control inputs of large magnitude.
The sliding mode controller performs very well under noisy conditions, and adaptation can effectively estimate uncertainty
such as ground effects.

H. Jin Kim received the B.S. degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Technology (KAIST) in 1995, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical
Engineering from University of California, Berkeley in 1999 and 2001, respectively. From 2002–2004, she was a Postdoctoral
Researcher and Lecturer in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley).
From 2004–2009, she was an Assistant Professor in the School of in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National
University (SNU), Seoul, Korea, where she is currently an Associate Professor. Her research interests include applications
of nonlinear control theory and artificial intelligence for robotics, motion planning algorithms.
Shankar Sastry received the B.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 1977, and the M.S. degree in EECS, the M.A.
degree in mathematics, and the Ph.D. degree in EECS from UC Berkeley, in 1979, 1980, and 1981, respectively. He is currently
Dean of the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley. He was formerly the Director of the Center for Information Technology Research
in the Interest of Society (CITRIS). He served as Chair of the EECS Department from January, 2001 through June 2004. In 2000,
he served as Director of the Information Technology Office at DARPA. From 1996 to 1999, he was the Director of the Electronics
Research Laboratory at Berkeley (an organized research unit on the Berkeley campus conducting research in computer sciences
and all aspects of electrical engineering). He is the NEC Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
and holds faculty appointments in the Departments of Bioengineering, EECS and Mechanical Engineering. Prior to joining the
EECS faculty in 1983 he was a Professor with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge. He is a member of

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies have been performed on the glass system (30–x) NaF-xNa2O-50B2O3-20Bi2O3 doped with CuO as a paramagnetic probe. The calculated g values indicate that Cu2+ is in a tetragonally elongated octahedral co-ordination, and the Jahn-Teller character gives rise to anisotropic hyperfine structure. The spin-Hamiltonian parameters and -bonding parameter, 2, are calculated. Varying the fluoride ion concentration and its effect on these parameters is also discussed. 相似文献

Hybrid automata provide a language for modeling and analyzing digital and analogue computations in real-time systems. Hybrid automata are studied here from a dynamical systems perspective. Necessary and sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of solutions are derived and a class of hybrid automata whose solutions depend continuously on the initial state is characterized. The results on existence, uniqueness, and continuity serve as a starting point for stability analysis. Lyapunov's theorem on stability via linearization and LaSalle's invariance principle are generalized to hybrid automata. 相似文献
