It has been well documented that ascorbate enhances iron uptake, with a proposed mechanism based on reduction to the more absorbable ferrous form. We have performed a study on the effects of ascorbate on ferric iron uptake in the human epithelial Caco-2 cell-line. Ascorbate increased uptake in a concentration-dependent manner with a significant difference between iron uptake and reduction. Uptake kinetics are characteristic of a non-essential activator and the formation of an Fe3+–ascorbate complex. This investigation provides evidence that ascorbate enhances the apical uptake of ferric iron into Caco-2 cells through the formation of a Fe3+–ascorbate complex.  相似文献

Juvenile rats are more susceptible to the acute toxicity of the phosphorothionate insecticides parathion and chlorpyrifos than are adult rats. Developmental changes in brain acetylcholinesterase and hepatic aliesterase (carboxylesterase), cytochrome P450, and the P450-mediated metabolism of these two phosphorothionate insecticides were investigated in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Specific activities of acetylcholinesterase in cerebral cortex, but not medulla oblongata, and of liver aliesterases increased with age, indicating the presence of both more target esterases and more protective esterases, respectively, in the adult compared to the juvenile animal. Sensitivity of the brain acetylcholinesterase to inhibition by paraoxon and chlorpyrifosoxon, as measured by IC50 values, did not change significantly with age, whereas the hepatic aliesterase sensitivity to inhibition decreased with age. Progressive increases in activities of P450-mediated activation (desulfuration) (6- to 14-fold) and detoxication (dearylation) (2- to 4-fold), as well as concentrations of P450 (7-fold) and protein (2-fold), were observed between neonate and adult hepatic microsomes. Microsomal pentoxyresorufin O-dealkylase activity followed a developmental pattern similar to desulfuration and dearylation, displaying a 16-fold increase between neonates and adults. However, microsomal ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase activity increased until 21 days of age, displaying a 16-fold increase, then decreased in adulthood to a level 10-fold higher than neonates. These results indicate that target enzyme sensitivity is not responsible for age-related toxicity differences, nor is the potential for hepatic bioactivation, whereas lower levels of hepatic aliesterase-mediated protection and P450-mediated dearylation probably contribute significantly to the greater sensitivity of juveniles to phosphorothionate toxicity.  相似文献

Anisotropic conductive adhesive film (ACF) can be preheated by microwave (MW) radiation in order to reduce the bonding time for flip-chip technology. Due to sluggish and nonuniform curing kinetics at the beginning of the curing reaction, thermal curing of epoxy is more time consuming. Therefore, MW radiation may be more effective, due to its uniform heating rate during the cycle. In this paper, MW preheating (for 1–4 sec) of ACF prior to final bonding has been applied to determine the electrical and mechanical performance of the bond. Powers of 80 and 240 W MW were used to study the effect of the MW preheating. A final bonding time of 6–7 sec can be used for flip chip on flex bonding instead of 10–15 sec (standard time for flip chip bonding) for MW preheating time and power used in this study. The contact resistance (as low as 0.01) is low in these samples, whereas the standard resistance is 0.017 ohm (bonded at 180°C for 10 sec without prior MW preheating). The shear forces at breakage were satisfactory (0.167–0.183 KN) for the samples bonded for 6–7 sec with MW preheating. This is very close and even higher than the standard sample (0.173 KN). For MW preheating power of 80 W and sweeping time of 2 sec, final bonding at 6 sec can also be used because of its low contact resistance (0.019 ohm). Scanning electron microscope (SEM) investigation of microjoints and fracture surface shows uneven distribution of conductive particles and thick bond lines in samples bonded for 5 sec (with MW preheating). Samples treated with MW radiation (80 W and 2–3 sec time) serve as evidence that well-distributed particles along with thin bond lines cause low contact resistance and high joint strength.  相似文献

The dental ages of 1286 (674 males and 612 females) Egyptian children born and grown up in a community with naturally occurring overfluoride ions in the drinking water (more than the optimal level) in Matrouh Governorate, were compared with the Egyptian standards of the fluoride deficient area of the same socioeconomic level. The age ranged from 8 years to 14 years and 6 months. The results of the present study revealed that the communal water supply with a fluoride ions concentration more than optimal level has no long term effect on the dental age, as judged from the tooth emergence of the growing children.  相似文献

In this study, we report results on a piezoelectric- material-based mechanical energy-harvesting device that was fabricated by combining laser machining with microelectronics packaging technology. It was found that the laser-machining process did not have significant effect on the electrical properties of piezoelectric material. The fabricated device was tested in the low-frequency regime of 50 to 1000 Hz at constant force of 8 g (where g = 9.8 m/s(2)). The device was found to generate continuous power of 1.13 microW at 870 Hz across a 288.5 kOmega load with a power density of 301.3 microW/cm(3).  相似文献

Three‐dimensional natural convection in an inclined solar collector equipped with partitions has been investigated numerically. The presence of partitions improves the performances of the collector by increasing the heat transfer near the absorber. A parametric study was done for various partitions length and Rayleigh numbers, while Prandtl number and inclination angle were fixed at 0.71 and 45°, respectively. Results are reported in terms of isosurfaces of temperature, isotherms, particles trajectories, velocity vector projection, average Nusselt number along the absorber plate and entropies generation contours.  相似文献

The insulation containment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers is a large‐sized elastic structure made of various metallic and composite materials of complex structural composition to protect the heat invasion and to sustain the hydrodynamic pressure. The goal of the present paper is to present a global–local numerical approach to effectively and accurately compute the local hydroelastic response of a local containment region of interest. The global sloshing flow and hydrodynamic pressure fields of interior LNG are computed by assuming the flexible containment as a rigid container. On the other hand, the local hydroelastic response of the insulation containment is obtained by solving only the local hydroelastic model in which the complex and flexible insulation structure is fully considered and the global analysis results are used as the initial and boundary conditions. The interior incompressible inviscid LNG flow is solved by the first‐order Euler finite volume method, whereas the structural dynamic deformation is solved by the explicit finite element method. The LNG flow and the containment deformation are coupled by the Euler–Lagrange coupling scheme. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper a cylindrical model of human body exposed to the extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic field is presented. The analysis is based on the solution of the simplified integral equation for thick wires. The numerical solution of the integral equations is performed by the Galerkin–Bubnov variant of the boundary element method. Several numerical results for the ELF exposures are presented.  相似文献

The present paper develops a new technique for treatment of self-weight for building slabs in the boundary element method (BEM). Due to the use of BEM in the analysis, all defined variables are presented on the slab boundary (mesh is defined only along the slab boundary). Self-weight, however, is usually defined over slab domain, hence domain discretisation is required, which spoils the main advantage of the BEM. In this paper a new method is presented to transform self-weight domain integrals to the boundary for such slabs. The proposed method is based on using the so-called Green's first identity. All new kernels for generalized displacements, stress-resultants, and tractions are derived and listed explicitly. The present formulation is implemented into computer code and several examples are tested. Results are compared against results obtained from other numerical method to prove the accuracy and validity of the present formulation.  相似文献
