An 11-year-old female crossbred dog showed signs of polyuria, polydipsia, vomiting, posterior weakness and ataxia. Clinical and laboratory findings suggested the diagnosis of polycythaemia vera. The haematological values shown over a six-month period are presented. In four samples some aspects of erythrocyte function (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase [G6PD] and pyruvate kinase [PK] activities, 2,3 diphosphoglycerate [2,3 DPG] concentration, osmotic fragility and intracellular sodium and potassium concentrations) were studied. Variable activities of G6PD and PK, probably related to different reticulocyte number, were detected together with normal osmotic fragility and intracellular sodium and potassium concentrations. 2,3 DPG concentration was higher than normal in all four samples. This could be interpreted as a response to a low tissue perfusion rather than a higher content of 2,3 DPG in red blood cells from the polycythaemic dog.  相似文献

Fragrance in rice is caused by mutations in the badh2 (betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase) gene. It was previously reported that exons 1, 2, 7, 10, 13 and 14 of badh2 are hot spots for various mutations leading to fragrance in most aromatic rice. This study was carried out to sequence the 14th exon of badh2 gene of Sri Lankan aromatic rice varieties that lack the badh2.1 allele. The aims of the study were to predict the aberrant protein structure and to develop a functional DNA marker. In view of this, we sequenced the 14th exon of four traditional aromatic accessions and compared with a published sequence. Four accessions contained a nucleotide ‘G’ insertion in the 14th exon. This novel mutation can be classified as the badh2.7 allele. The predicted three‐dimensional protein structure of the mutant shows loss of part of the oligomerization and coenzyme binding domains, a change that is predicted to result in fragrance. A CAPS‐based novel marker, Bad2.7CAPS, was developed to identify varieties possessing this badh2.7 allele, and it can be utilized in rice breeding programmes.  相似文献

The gonadotropin‐releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulation test is a common procedure used to investigate normality of the pituitary‐gonadal axis in mammals. There is very little information on the technique, its efficacy and side effects in small animals and in particular no information for male cats. In dogs, such test is performed by intravenous (IV) administration. With cats, the number of times the animal needs to be restrained for blood sampling should be the least possible. The purpose of this study was to assess efficacy and side effects of the GnRH stimulation test in tomcats comparing the IV with the intramuscular (IM) route of administration. A GnRH stimulation test was performed in eight adult tomcats through IM or IV administration of 50 μg gonadorelin. The response of the pituitary‐gonadal axis was assessed by measuring serum testosterone on blood samples collected prior to and 1 hr following treatment. When considering each single group of cats, the post‐stimulation serum testosterone values were significantly higher than the pre‐treatment ones (p < .05). When comparing the two groups of cats, basal testosterone concentrations did not differ, and also post‐GnRH testosterone concentrations did not differ. In conclusion, in the cats of our study, the GnRH stimulation test produced the same results following the IM or the IV route of administration. Therefore, in tomcats, the IM route can be considered as effective as the IV one and should be preferred when doing a GnRH test.  相似文献

One isolate of predator fungi Duddingtonia flagrans (AC001) was assessed in vitro regarding the capacity of supporting the passage through pigs' gastrointestinal tract without loss of the ability of preying infective larvae Oesophagostomum spp. Fungal isolates survived the passage and were efficient in preying L3 since the first 8 h of collection (p < 0.01) in relation to the control group (without fungus). Compared with control, there was a significant decrease (p < 0.01) of 59.6% (8 h), 71.7% (12 h), 76.8% (24 h), 81.0% (36 h), 78.0% (48 h), 76.1% (72 h), and 82.7% (96 h) in means of infective larvae Oesophagostomum spp. recovered from treatments with isolate AC001. Linear regression coefficients of L3 of recovered Oesophagostomum spp. regarding the collections due to time were −0.621 for control, −1.40 for AC001, and −2.64 for NF34. Fungi D. flagrans (AC001) had demonstrated to be promising for use in the biological control of pig parasite Oesophagostomum spp.  相似文献
