Disturbance waves play an important role in interfacial transfer of mass, momentum and energy in annular two-phase flow. In spite of their importance, majority of the experimental data available in literature on disturbance wave properties such as velocity, frequency, wavelength and amplitude are limited to near atmospheric conditions (Azzopardi, B.J., 1997. Drops in annular two-phase flow. International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 23, 1-53). In view of this, air-water annular flow experiments have been conducted at three pressure conditions (1.2, 4.0 and 5.8 bar) in a tubular test section having an inside diameter 9.4 mm. At each pressure condition liquid and gas phase flow rates are varied over a large range so that the effects of density ratio, liquid flow rate and gas flow rate on disturbance wave properties can be studied systematically. A liquid film thickness is measured by two flush mounted ring shaped conductance probes located 38.1 mm apart. Disturbance wave velocity, frequency, amplitude and wavelength are estimated from the liquid film thickness measurements by following the statistical analysis methods. Parametric trends in variations of disturbance wave properties are analyzed using the non-dimensional numbers; liquid phase Reynolds number (Ref), gas phase Reynolds number (Reg), Weber number (We) and Strouhal number (Sr). Finally, the existing correlations available for the prediction of disturbance wave velocity and frequency are analyzed and a new, improved correlation is proposed for the prediction of disturbance wave frequency. Rapid hardening of cement was achieved in the present study by adding a mechanically activated Al(OH)3 –Ca(OH)2 mixture to the starting cement paste. Among the dominant parameters for hardening were the mechanical treatment time for the Al(OH)3 powder and the Al(OH)3 /Ca(OH)2 ratio. The hardening mechanisms are discussed here in terms of the ionic concentration of the solution and the hydration products created when the Al(OH)3 –Ca(OH)2 mixture was added to water. Mechanical activation of the Al(OH)3 powder accelerated dissolution into an aqueous alkaline solution and induced the formation of calcium aluminate hydration products. Those hydration products increased the compressive strength of the cement paste at a very early stage of hardening. 相似文献

Phase-pure perovskite Pb(Zn x Mg1– x )1/3 Nb2/3 O3 solid solution (PZ x M1– x N) is obtained for x ≦ 0.7 by heating a milled stoichiometric mixture of PbO, Mg(OH)2 , Nb2 O5 , and 2ZnCO3 ·3Zn(OH)2 ·H2 O at 1100°C for 1 h. Percent perovskite ( f P ) with respect to total crystalline phase decreases with increasing temperature of subsequent heating then increases to 900°C for the mixtures where x ≦ 0.8 and milled for 3 h. For mixtures with x = 0.9 and x = 1, f P decreases monotonically. Curie temperature increases almost linearly with increasing x up to x = 0.7. The maximum dielectric constant at 1 kHz is 2×104 and 1.7×104 for the mixture with x = 0.4 and x = 0.7, respectively. The stabilization mechanism of strained perovskite is discussed. 相似文献

We first applied a liquid-phase epitaxy (LPE) method to the growth of 2H-SiC to obtain an oriented 2H-SiC layer. The LPE growth was performed on a (0001) 4H-SiC substrate in a Li-Si-C melt at 850 °C. A LPE layer grew on the carbon face of the (0001) 4H-SiC substrate with the area of about 1 × 1 mm2. The thickness and morphology of the LPE layer were confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and the polytype of the LPE layer was determined using a high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM) and a Raman spectroscopy. SEM measurements revealed that the thickness of the LPE layer was 50 μm and that this layer developed with a hexagonal shape. HR-TEM observations and Raman spectral analysis showed that 2H-SiC layer grows on 4H-SiC substrate with the relationship of (0001) 2H-SiC (0001) 4H-SiC. In this study, we first succeeded to grow <0001>-axis-oriented 2H-SiC films and concluded that the LPE technique is applicable to the growth of oriented 2H-SiC films in the Li-Si melt. 相似文献

The effect of the geometrical and operational parameters on the mixing characteristics of a Couette–Taylor vortex flow reactor (CTVFR) were investigated and were correlated with the same parameters by using the tank‐in‐series model. Continuous emulsion polymerization of styrene was conducted at 50°C in a CTVFR to clarify the effects on kinetic behavior and reactor performance of operational parameters such as rotational speed of inner cylinder (Taylor number), reactor mean residence time, and emulsifier and initiator concentrations in the feed streams. It was found that steady‐state monomer conversion and particle number could be freely varied only by varying the Taylor number. In order to explain the observed kinetic behavior of this polymerization system, a mathematical model was developed by combining the empirical correlation of the mixing characteristics of a CTVFR and a previously proposed kinetic model for the continuous emulsion polymerization of styrene in continuous stirred tank reactors connected in series (CSTRs). On the basis of these experimental results, it was concluded that a CTVFR is suitable for the first reactor (prereactor) of a continuous emulsion polymerization reactor system. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of hard, transparent, thermoset polymer samples containing tetravinylsilane (TVS) and 1,3-benzenedithiol (BDT) with varying loadings of zirconium oxide clusters Zr6(OH)4O4(OMc)12 (ZOC) were synthesized. Resulting polymers exhibited a higher refractive index (n) than the parent polymer containing only the monomers TVS and BDT. The refractive index reached a maximum value of 1.711 at a ZOC loading of 3 wt% and then decreased as the ZOC concentration in the polymer matrix increased. The refractive index of ZOC was determined to be 1.540 using the Becke line method. Because the refractive index of ZOC is lower than that of the TVS–BDT polymer matrix, the finding that the incorporation of small quantities of ZOC can increase the refractive index of the TVS–BDT polymer composite was unexpected and is accounted for by the effects of ZOC on the packing efficiency of the composite. 相似文献

Foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, which cause self-limiting gastroenteritis, are important in food safety and public health. Detection of Salmonella in complex food matrices is required for rapid and effective monitoring of contaminated food products. In this study, we collected Salmonella Typhimurium in chicken using immunomagnetic separation after formaldehyde treatment. Collected Salmonella Typhimurium cells were then quantified microfluidic device or fluorescence microscopy. The recovery ratio obtained with immunomagnetic separation after formaldehyde treatment was 77 (±5)% for the microscope count and 63 (±9)% for the microfluidic count. According to the fluorescence microscope images, the food matrix was effectively removed from the collected cell suspension. The counts of Salmonella Typhimurium cells obtained by the microfluidic device and fluorescence microscope were closely correlated (R2 = 0.993) with a range of 3.3 (±0.5) × 103 to 1.2 (±0.5) × 106 cells g−1. Our method provides quantitative detection of Salmonella Typhimurium within 3–4 h and could be used to efficiently evaluate microbial risk of quality control of foodstuffs and prevention of foodborne disease. 相似文献

Functional nucleic acids with the capability of generating fluorescence in response to hybridization events, microenvironment or structural changes are valuable as structural probes and chemical sensors. We now demonstrate the enzyme-assisted preparation of nucleic acids possessing multiple thiazole orange (TO) dyes and their fluorescent behavior, that show a spectral change from the typical monomer emission to the excimer-type red-shifted emission. We found that the fluorescent response and emission wavelength of the TO dyes were dependent on both the state of the DNA structure (single- or double-stranded DNA) and the arrangement of the TO dyes. We showed that the fluorescent behavior of the TO dyes can be applied for the detection of RNA molecules, suggesting that our approach for preparing the fluorescent nucleic acids functionalized with multiple TO dyes could be useful to design a fluorescence bioimaging and detection technique of biomolecules. 相似文献

Prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) with the surcharge preloading and vacuum consolidation has become considerably popular for ground improvement projects. A simple solution that incorporates the fundamental embankment features, such as the average degree of consolidation and excess pore pressure, are essential for the design of soft ground improvements by PVDs with vacuum preloading. However, most of the solutions for vertical drains with vacuum consolidation require numerical simulations, whose implementation tends to be laborious. In contrast, a simple solution for vacuum consolidation under time-dependent loading has not yet been proposed. In this study, a simple solution that can be easily incorporated into a conventional spreadsheet is derived for PVDs with vacuum preloading by applying the Laplace transform technique. The proposed solution accounts for several actual construction conditions, such as initial surcharge load, vacuum pump trial period, variations of radial permeability, and time-dependent loading. The results obtained from this proposed approach were validated with those from the finite element method and field data from the case study of the Cai Mep International Terminal project in southern Vietnam. The derived solutions, including the excess pore pressures and average degrees of consolidation, were in good agreement with the predicted and observed data. 相似文献
