The aim of this study is to identify the parameters defining how Lean Construction (LC) is being implemented (current condition) and how LC can be further promoted (future direction) from a Small-Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) perspective. Although SMEs constitute the largest group in construction supply chains, LC, as an emerging phenomenon in civil construction project management, has been rarely investigated from an SMEs perspective. Also, overlooking the more macro factors like project governance and supply chain management, LC deployments have been mainly discussed from a production process perspective to date. After a review of the extant literature and 20 interviews with managers from the highways sector, a list of 31 current condition and 40 future direction statements were produced, classified under the delivery, process, training, project governance and supply chain related headings and used in a questionnaire survey with 110 responses. The current condition highlights problems like a short-term relations structure, competitive tendering mechanisms, fragmentation, problems in engaging with SMEs for LC, unstandardised LC techniques, and issues with convincing SMEs to deploy LC by demonstrating the business case on mutual benefits. Action items relating to the current project delivery structure were given the highest importance by the supply chain, alongside the LC training and project governance issues for the future of LC at highways SMEs. Additionally, a statistically significant correlation was identified among many future action items.  相似文献

The one‐dimensional heterogeneous model of an industrial multitubular packed‐bed ethylene oxide (EO) reactor was developed using the equation‐oriented platform Aspen Custom Modeler. Reactor operation was optimized in terms of maximized EO production and selectivity and enhanced safety related to the presence of oxygen in the EO reactor. Good agreement was found between the model results during validation against the available information under identical operating conditions. The model predicts the behavior of the EO reaction and demonstrates the extent of catalyst utilization with product distribution, product yield, by‐product formation, temperature and concentration profiles, over time and along the length of the reactor or catalyst bed. The model sensitivity studies compute the optimum feed flow, oxygen concentration, feed pressure, etc. and suggest the best operational philosophy.  相似文献

Nitinol usage for biomedical implant devices has received significant attention due to its high corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. However, surface treatments are known to affect surface charge, surface chemistry, morphology, wettability, and corrosion resistance. In this investigation, the corrosion resistance of a binary and various ternary Nitinol alloys was determined after being subjected to electropolishing, magnetoelectropolishing, and water boiling and passivation. Cyclic polarization in vitro corrosion tests were conducted in Phosphate Buffer Saline (PBS) in compliance with ASTM F 2129-08 before and after surface treatments. The concentrations of dissolved metal ions in the electrolyte were also determined by ICPMS.  相似文献

The feasibility of incorporating ground recycled polyurethane (PU) foam into clay/polymer aerogels was demonstrated, and a range of compositions were prepared and characterized to determine the effect of variation in the formulations on density and mechanical properties of the resulting materials. This study followed a modified combinatorial approach. Initially, experiments were performed in water using either sodium exchanged montmorillonite or laponite clay, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH) solution as the polymer binder, and the recycled PU foam. Freezing and freeze‐drying the aqueous gels produced aerogels, which were characterized through density and mechanical testing, scanning electron microscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The study was expanded by exploring alternative binder chemistries, including the use of an alginate polymer in place of the PVOH or adding a polyisocyanate as a crosslinking agent for PVOH. The effect of recycled PU foam content, clay type and level, and binder type and level on the mechanical properties of the aerogels were determined and will be discussed herein. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyamide comprises one of the major classes of polymers. Layered silicates (nanofiller) may enhance properties of polyamide-based hybrids even at very low content. Aliphatic polyamides (nylons) have often been chosen for commercial applications because of excellent physical and chemical properties. Aromatic polyamides (aramids) and aliphatic-aromatic polyamides have been predominantly useful as high-performance materials due to stiffness, low density, and low cost. Recently polyamide blends have become an important route to high-performance materials. Binary blends of polyamide/polypropylene, polyamide/polystyrene, polyamide/polymethyl methacrylate, polyamide/polyurethane, and others have been reported for nanocomposite formation with organoclay. However, ternary blend nanocomposite with nanoclays (PA6/mSEBS, PA6/EPDM-g-MA/H-HDPE) is rarely explored.  相似文献

The main purpose of this study is to provide the knowledge and data on Deuterium-Tritium (D-T) fusion neutron induced damage in MOS devices. Silicon metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) devices are currently the cornerstone of the modern microelectronics industry. However, when a MOS device is exposed to a flux of energetic radiation or particles, the resulting effects from this radiation can cause several degradation of the device performance and of its operating life. The part of MOS structure (metal oxide semiconductor) most sensitive to neutron radiation is the oxide insulating layer (SiO2). When ionizing radiation passes through the oxide, the energy deposited creates electron-hole pairs. These electron-hole pairs have been seriously hazardous to the performance of these electronic components. The degradation of the current gain of the dual n-channel depletion mode MOS caused by neutron displacement defects, was measured using in situ method during neutron irradiation. The average degradation of the gain of the current is about 35 mA, and the change in channel current gain increased proportionally with neutron fluence. The total fusion neutron displacement damage was found to be 4.8 × 10−21 dpa per n/cm2, while the average fraction of damage in the crystal of silicon was found to be 1.24 × 10−12. All the MOS devices tested were found to be controllable after neutron irradiation and no permanent damage was caused by neutron fluence irradiation below 1010n/cm2. The calculation results shows that (n,α) reaction induced soft-error cross-section about 8.7 × 10−14 cm2, and for recoil atoms about 2.9 × 10−15 cm2, respectively.  相似文献

This paper proposed a new technique to suppress the four-wave mixing (FWM) effect by using a smart filter technique. The behaviour of FWM and the performance of wavelength division multiplexing systems with 4 and 16 channels were simulated in the presence of the proposed technique. The simulation was also performed under different parameters such as input power, number of channels and channel spacing. The FWM power drastically decreases by 12 and 19 dB for the 4 and 16 channels, respectively, when the smart filter is used as compared with the conventional system. In terms of system performance, the suggested approach for 4 and 16 channels at the first channel offers low bit error rate (BER) values of 3.23 × 10?23 and 1.7 × 10?21, respectively. The smart filter with the channel spacing variation for the 4-channel system subsequently improved the BER value at the fourth channel. Results confirm that the smart filter approach is an active solution that can suppress the FWM effect in optical transmission systems.  相似文献

Due to the increase in volatile renewable power and heat generation (wind or solar), thermal energy storage (TES) has obtained growing importance and interest. The technology can be distinguished into three main types: sensible, latent and thermochemical storage. Apart from low and medium temperature heat applications, high temperature TES also is an attractive means to store power in the form of heat (before the thermodynamic transformation process). This article reviews the research and progress on polystyrene and nanoclay-based nanocomposite. Polystyrene is one of the most extensively used commercial polymers in the world. This review is designed to be an expansive source for polystyrene–clay nanocomposite research, including synthesis, characterization, structure/property relationship, manufacturing techniques, and applications considering thermal, mechanical, barrier, electrical conductivity, non-flammability, and biodegradability. The frequently used clays with polystyrene are montmorillonite, bentonite, hectorite, and kaolinite. The polystyrene–clay nanocomposite has several interesting commercial significances in packaging, automotive, fuel cell, construction, and electrical materials. Finally, future challenges toward the technical applications of these advance materials have been discussed.  相似文献
