A fast spectro-pyrometer has been employed for radiance measurements of zirconium carbide samples laser-heated to very high temperature, for compositions 0.7  C/Zr  2.61 and in a spectral range 0.550 μm  λ  0.900 μm. The ZrC–C eutectic temperature has been taken as the radiance reference. The measured normal spectral emissivity (NSE) ?λ of solid zirconium carbide is close to 0.6 at 0.650 μm, in agreement with previous literature. Its high-temperature behaviour, value in the liquid, carbon-content and wavelength dependences in the visible-near infrared range have been determined here for the first time. Liquid zirconium carbide seems to interact with electromagnetic radiation in a more metallic way than the solid. A considerable NSE increase has been observed at increasing carbon content, which can be interpreted on the basis of preferential growth along the “c” plane of the carbon lamellae in the eutectic structure.  相似文献

While paraboloidal dishes have traditionally been used for high flux/high power solar concentration devices, the manufacture of multi-facet collectors has been complicated somewhat by the need to produce reflecting elements having different curvatures for different regions of the paraboloidal surface. This complication could be minimised by using identical spherical reflector sub-components mounted with a paraboloidal orientation on a space frame dish structure. This paper compares the optical performance and manufacturing feasibility of collectors having such a combination of surfaces.  相似文献

In our previous studies we analysed the plutonium burning performance of various kinds of fuel, based on mixing plutonium oxide with thorium oxide (TOX), or with inert matrix (IMF), or with inert matrix plus a limited addition (doping) of thorium oxide (TD-IMF). The present paper includes the neutronic analysis of a metal-based fuel variant and of fissile material recycling in TOX fuels. If the recycled fuel is topped with weapons grade plutonium (WG-Pu) as fissile material, it is possible to sustain indefinitely a closed cycle.  相似文献

A study was carried out in northeastern Italy during 2000 and 2001 to investigate the occurrence of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli in animals, cattle, pigs, and broilers, and raw meat, beef, pork, and chicken. Campylobacter spp. were detected in 53.9% of the cattle, 63.5% of the pigs, and 82.9% of the broilers examined. Chicken meat was frequently contaminated (81.3%), while lower rates were found in pork meat (10.3%) and beef (1.3%). The resistance to antibiotics of the strains was also investigated, and compared to that of human clinical isolates. C. coli was generally more resistant than C. jejuni. Resistance to quinolones was frequently observed in C. coli isolated in chicken meat (78.6%); slightly lower rates were found in C. jejuni isolated in broilers (42.2%), chicken meat (52.8%), and humans (38.2%). C. coli was also frequently resistant to tetracycline in all sources, while resistance to streptomycin was most frequently observed in pig isolates (89.4%).  相似文献

In conventional freeze-fracture replicas produced from tissue cryoprotected with glycerol, the hydrophobic inner surfaces of membranes are revealed, but hydrophillic structures are obscured in the surrounding ice. Quick-freezing of tissue obviates the need for glycerol, which prevents the removal of this ice by etching or freeze-drying, but the major problem in freezing without glycerol cryoprotection is ice crystal formation. We describe here a simple method for quick-freezing tissue, in the absence of glycerol, on a nitrogen-cooled copper block with a hand-held specimen holder. This method freezes samples well enough to preserve molecular detail that can be revealed by subsequent etching. We show some examples of the quality of this freezing with respect to the visualization of molecular detail in isolated protein molecules such as ferritin and catalase. Furthermore, we show examples of in situ cellular structures that are revealed by this method, and we compare the structure seen in these replicas with structures preserved by quick-freezing at liquid helium temperatures.  相似文献

A smart card is a small computer in credit card format with no man-machine interface. This industry wide recognition expresses an essential fact. The specific properties of smart cards, compared with all other types of cards, are determined by a microcontroller integrated in a card, which controls, initiates, and monitors all activities. Software alone cannot satisfy all smart card requirements. Manufacturers must offer additional functions in hardware. Continued growth is a way of growing nanotubes targeted to produce continuous and chirality-controlled single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) materials. This growth method strongly depends on efficient preparation of open-ended SWNT substrates. Nanoscopically flat open-ended SWNT substrates have been prepared by cutting the SWNT spun fiber with a focused ion beam cutting technique and followed by etching schemes for cleaning amorphous carbon and opening the ends of the SWNTs. The open ends were effectively characterized through selective etch back of open SWNT ends by carbon dioxide gas at 950 degrees C. High density continued growth was demonstrated from these nanoscopically flat open-ended substrates.  相似文献
