The purpose of this study is to describe clinical and laboratory data, as well as comorbid disorders in Greek children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Data were retrospectively collected for 222 children aged 1.5-9 years. The mean age at diagnosis was 43.7 ± 17.6 months. Significantly earlier diagnoses were noted in children with comorbid disorders (epilepsy, hearing deficits, genetic/metabolic disorders), mental retardation and a large head circumference (HC). Macrocephaly (HC ≥ 97th percentile) was found in 21.2% of children, genetic and metabolic disorders in 11.7% and 2.7% respectively and mental retardation in 23%. Patients with certain clinical features (i.e. syndromic) are earlier diagnosed. It is of ultimate importance to promptly identify all children with ASD, probably through the appliance of screening and surveillance programs in the Greek population. 相似文献

The commercial yeast identification systems API ID32C, Auxacolor, and Vitek were evaluated using 251 molecularly identified bloodstream isolates and 2 reference strains, representing a total of 35 species (6 common and 29 rare). Correct identification rates were higher for common species (Auxacolor, 95%; API ID32C, 94%; Vitek, 92%) than for rare species (Auxacolor, 43%; API ID32C, 56%; Vitek, 64%). All systems performed equally among the former, and Vitek performed best among the latter. 相似文献

The aim of our study was to evaluate the Greek version of the transfusion-dependent quality of life (TranQol) questionnaire and report our experience of using this novel disease-specific quality of life (QoL) measure in patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT). The TranQol and SF-36v2 questionnaires were administered to 94 adult TDT patients with a mean age of 32.1 years (SD = 7, range = 19–58), recruited from the Adult Thalassemia Unit of Hippokration General Hospital of Thessaloniki, Greece. The TranQol was evaluated in terms of construct validity, reliability, and responsiveness. There was a moderately strong correlation between the TranQol summary and both the SF-36v2 physical and mental component summaries (r = 0.4, p < 0.001 and r = 0.5, p < 0.001, respectively). There was also a moderately strong correlation between the physical health scale of TranQol and the relevant SF-36v2 scales, including physical functioning (r = 0.4, p < 0.001), role-physical (r = 0.6, p < 0.001), and bodily pain (r = 0.5, p < 0.001). TranQol also exhibited good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient = 0.9) and excellent test-retest reliability (intra-class correlation coefficient = 0.9). The subgroup of patients that reported a better QoL 1 week after transfusion also demonstrated a significant improvement in their TranQol score. These are the first data regarding the administration of the Greek TranQol in a single thalassemia unit. The psychometric properties of the Greek TranQol confirmed it is a valid, reliable, and responsive to change questionnaire, which can be incorporated into future clinical trials. 相似文献

Because of their frequent isolation in the routine laboratory and their increasing clinical significance, fast and accurate species identification of staphylococci may be required; this can only be achieved by automated systems. A total of 147 clinical isolates (52 Staphylococcus aureus, 50 Staphylococcus epidermidis, and 45 other coagulase-negative staphylococci [CoNS]) were first identified by molecular methodology and then comparatively tested by Vitek 2 (new colorimetric identification card) and Phoenix using the novel 0.25 McFarland and the standard 0.50 McFarland inoculum protocols. All S. aureus isolates were accurately identified. Vitek 2 identified correctly all S. epidermidis and 93.3% of the other CoNS, whereas the respective rates were 86% and 82.2% for Phoenix's standard and 92% and 82.2% for the novel protocol. It appears that both systems provide excellent identification of S. aureus, but Vitek 2 recognizes CoNS species more accurately than Phoenix. The 0.25 McFarland protocol does not improve system performance. 相似文献

Background: Dietary and lifestyle habits constitute a significant contributing factor in the formation of anthropometric and biochemical characteristics of overweight and obese populations. The iMPROVE study recruited overweight and obese Greek adults and investigated the effect of gene–diet interactions on weight management when adhering to a six-month, randomized nutritional trial including two hypocaloric diets of different macronutrient content. The present paper displays the design of the intervention and the baseline findings of the participants’ dietary habits and their baseline anthropometric and biochemical characteristics. Methods: Baseline available data for 202 participants were analyzed and patterns were extracted via principal component analysis (PCA) on 69-item Food-Frequency Questionnaires (FFQ). Relationships with indices at baseline were investigated by multivariate linear regressions. A Lifestyle Index of five variables was further constructed. Results: PCA provided 5 dietary patterns. The “Mixed” pattern displayed positive associations with logBMI and logVisceral fat, whereas the “Traditional, vegetarian-alike” pattern was nominally, negatively associated with body and visceral fat, but positively associated with HDL levels. The Lifestyle Index displayed protective effects in the formation of logBMI and logGlucose levels. Conclusions: Dietary patterns and a Lifestyle Index in overweight and obese, Greek adults highlighted associations between diet, lifestyle, and anthropometric and biochemical indices. 相似文献
