Natural hazards, such as earthquakes and strong wind events, place large forces on tall, slender structures and on long-span bridges. In view of the numerous uncertainties due to model errors, stress calculations, material properties, and environmental loads, the structural system is uncertain. Here, the Lagrangian representation is modeled as an uncertain state-space model. The paper develops a robust active control approach with uncertainties in not only the system and control input matrices, but also the disturbance input matrices. Robust active control provides both robust relative stability and H∞ disturbance attenuation. The H∞ norm of the transfer function from the external disturbance forces (e.g., earthquake, wind, etc.) to the observed system states is restricted by a prescribed attenuation index. The uncertainties considered herein are norm-bounded unstructured uncertainties. Preservation of H2 optimality of robust structural control is also revealed. The results may be further extended to structured uncertainties. A numerical example illustrates that the approach may be applied to robust control of structural systems under earthquake excitation.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: In the past 4 years, the weekly 24-hour infusion of high dose 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and leucovorin in the treatment of patients with advanced gastric carcinoma has been prospectively studied at the authors' institution. This has enabled them to explore the possibility that the level of expression of thymidylate synthase (TS), the target enzyme of 5-FU, is related to the drug sensitivity of gastric carcinoma to 5-FU-based chemotherapy. METHODS: To be eligible for this study, patients were required to have received high dose 5-FU and leucovorin chemotherapy (weekly 24-hour infusions of 5-FU, 2,600 mg/m2, and leucovorin, 300 mg/m2) and to have had adequate prechemotherapy gastric carcinoma tissues for immunohistochemical study. TS106 monoclonal antibody was used to detect the expression of TS. A visual scoring system, which ranged from 0 to 3+, was adopted by 2 independent pathologists to semiquantitate the intensity of TS expression. RESULTS: Between 1993 and 1996, a total of 30 patients, 18 men and 12 women, with a median age of 61.5 years, were enrolled. Of these patients, 16 (53.3%) and 14 (46.7%) had high and low expression of TS, respectively. Two of the 16 patients (12.5%) with high expression of TS and 13 of the 14 patients (92.9%) with low expression of TS responded to chemotherapy (P < 0.001, chi-square test). The median overall survival was 10 months for patients with low TS expression and 4 months for patients with high TS expression (P < 0.01, log rank test). CONCLUSIONS: The data from this study suggest that the expression of TS, as determined by immunohistochemistry, is a relatively reliable indicator of whether 5-FU should be used in the treatment of patients with gastric carcinoma.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to validate the accuracy of the assessment of ventricular function by first-pass radionuclide angiography (FPRNA) with 123I myocardial tracers and a multicrystal gamma camera. METHODS: Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and right ventricular ejection fraction were measured in 69 patients by FPRNA using 123I myocardial tracers (126 +/- 7 MBq) and 99mTc tracers (541 +/- 141 MBq) on a multicrystal gamma camera with a high-sensitivity collimator. For 44 patients, ejection fraction values measured by 123I-FPRNA were compared to those estimated by equilibrium radionuclide angiography (ERNA). Visual wall-motion analysis was also performed to judge clinical acceptability of 123I-FPRNA images for identification of wall-motion abnormality. RESULTS: Mean LVEFs (%) estimated by 123I-FPRNA and by 99mTc-FPRNA were 49.6 +/- 13.6 and 49.1 +/- 14.1, respectively (nonsignificant p value). An excellent correlation was found between LVEFs estimated by 123I-FPRNA and 99mTc-FPRNA (r = 0.96, s.e.e. = 1.9%). Values of LVEF measured by 123I-FPRNA also demonstrated excellent correlation with those measured by ERNA (r = 0.95, s.e.e. = 2.2%). A good correlation was also noted between right ventricular ejection fractions measured by 123I-FPRNA and 99mTc-FPRNA (r = 0.72, s.e.e. = 4.0%). The Spearman rank correlation coefficient between 123I-FPRNA and ERNA wall-motion scores was 0.87 (n = 135, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Resting ventricular function can be reliably measured with 123I-FPRNA in combination with a multicrystal gamma camera. This indicates that the assessment of ventricular function is feasible in conjunction with 123I myocardial imaging without an increase in cost or radiation dose to patients.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: We sought to compare outcomes of patients treated in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) and New Approaches to Coronary Intervention (NACI) registries. BACKGROUND: Coronary angioplasty has numerous shortcomings. New devices for performing coronary interventions have been introduced in an effort to improve clinical outcomes. METHODS: Under the sponsorship of the NHLBI, a registry of consecutive patients treated with PTCA during 1985 to 1986 was established. In 1990, the NHLBI funded a second registry, the NACI. The two registries used the same data coordinating center to collect detailed baseline and follow-up information. RESULTS: Patients enrolled in the NACI registry were older, had undergone more previous bypass surgery procedures and had more stenoses located in bypass grafts than patients in the NHLBI PTCA registry. Procedural success was achieved in 72.1% and 82.6% of patients in the PTCA and NACI registries, respectively; however, in-hospital and 1-year mortality rates were 1.0% versus 1.8% and 3.1% versus 5.9% for the PTCA versus NACI registries, respectively. After risk adjustment, there was no difference in 1-year mortality. Rates of target lesion revascularization (TLR) were 21.5% for the PTCA registry and 24.2% for the NACI registry. NACI registry patients had a higher risk for TLR and the composite end point of death, myocardial infarction or revascularization (relative risk 1.28 and 1.23, respectively). However, the NACI registry patients who received stents tended to have a lower adjusted TLR rate. CONCLUSIONS: This comparative study found no overall superiority of these newer devices in terms of patient survival or freedom from TLR after adjustment for baseline risk profiles. Although technologic improvements (especially improved stenting) continue, these observations highlight the importance of careful assessment of clinical results in the broad population of patients in whom interventions are used.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) of tantalum nitride (TaN) was conducted with tantalum compacts in nitrogen of 0.27–1.82 MPa. Effects of sample density, nitrogen pressure, and preheating temperature on the flame-front propagation velocity, combustion temperature, degree of conversion, and product composition were studied. Results showed that the SHS process of the tantalum/nitrogen reaction was characterized by the steady propagation of a planar combustion front, followed by a prolonged afterburning reaction. The flame-front velocity increased with nitrogen pressure, but decreased with sample density. Preheating the sample prior to ignition contributed higher combustion temperatures, thus leading to an increase in the conversion percentage. For the unpreheated samples, the conversion increased significantly with nitrogen pressure and reached around 80% at 1.82 MPa of N2. With preheating temperatures between 150 and 300 °C, the conversion was increased by about 15% when compared with that without preheating. The nitride phase TaN was identified by XRD as the dominant composition in the combustion product.  相似文献

28Si+ implantation into Mg-doped GaN, followed by thermal annealing in N2 was performed to achieve n+-GaN layers. The carrier concentrations of the films changed from 3×1017 (p-type) to 5×1019 cm−3 (n-type) when the Si-implanted p-type GaN was properly annealed. Specific contact resistance (ρc) of Ti/Al/Pt/Au Ohmic contact to n-GaN, formed by 28Si+ implantation into p-type GaN, was also evaluated by transmission line model. It was found that we could achieve a ρc value as low as 1.5×10−6 Ω cm2 when the metal contact was alloyed in N2 ambience at 600 °C. Si-implanted GaN p–n junction light-emitting diodes were also fabricated. Electroluminescence measurements showed that two emission peaks at around 385 and 420 nm were observed, which could be attributed to the near band-edge transition and donor-to-acceptor transition, respectively.  相似文献

Fas and Fas-associated death domain (FADD) play a critical role in the homeostasis of different cell types. The regulation of Fas and FADD-mediated cell death is pivotal to many physiological functions. The activation of T lymphocytes by concanavalin A (Con A) inhibited Fas-mediated cell death. We identified that among the several activation signals downstream of Con A stimulation, mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase kinase (MKK) was the major kinase pathway that antagonized Fas-triggered cell death. MKK1 suppressed FADD- but not caspase-3- induced apoptosis, indicating that antagonism occurred early along the Fas-initiated apoptotic cascade. We further demonstrated that activation of MKK1 led to expression of FLIP, a specific inhibitor of FADD. MKK1 inhibition of FADD-induced cell death was abrogated if induction of FLIP was prevented, indicating that FLIP mediates MKK1 suppression of FADD-mediated apoptosis. Our results illustrate a general mechanism by which activation of MAP kinase attenuates apoptotic signals initiated by death receptors in normal and transformed cells.  相似文献

beta-Amyloid is a metabolic product of the amyloid precursor protein, which accumulates abnormally in senile plaques in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. The neurotoxicity of beta-amyloid has been observed in cell culture and in vivo, but the mechanism of this effect is unclear. In this report, we describe the direct neurotoxicity of beta-amyloid in high-density primary cultures of human fetal cortex. In 36-day-old cortical cultures, beta-amyloid neurotoxicity was not inhibited by the broad-spectrum excitatory amino acid receptor antagonist kynurenate or the NMDA receptor antagonist D-2-amino-5-phosphonovaleric acid under conditions that inhibited glutamate and NMDA neurotoxicity. In 8-day-old cortical cultures, neurons were resistant to glutamate and NMDA toxicity but were still susceptible to beta-amyloid neurotoxicity, which was unaffected by excitatory amino acid receptor antagonists. Treatment with beta-amyloid caused chronic neurodegenerative changes, including neuronal clumping and dystrophic neurites, whereas glutamate treatment caused rapid neuronal swelling and neurite fragmentation. These results suggest that beta-amyloid is directly neurotoxic to primary human cortical neurons by a mechanism that does not involve excitatory amino acid receptors.  相似文献

The N-content of an InGaAsN quantum-well (QW) laser is found to dramatically affect the temperature sensitivity of the current injection efficiency (/spl eta//sub inj/) and material gain parameter (g/sub oJ/). The increased temperature sensitivity of /spl eta//sub inj/ and g/sub oJ/ of InGaAsN QW lasers with increasing N-content leads to a significant increase in their temperature sensitivity of threshold current and external differential quantum efficiency. Increasing the N-content of the InGaAsN QW potentially results in a reduction of the heavy hole confinement, which may account for the increased temperature sensitivity of the current injection efficiency.  相似文献
