An algal-bacterial consortium was tested for the treatment from a coke factory. A Chlorella vulgaris strain and a phenol-degrading Alcaligenes sp. were first isolated from the wastewater treatment plant to serve as inocula in the subsequent biodegradation tests. Batch tests were then conducted with samples from the real wastewater or using a synthetic wastewater containing 325 mg phenol/l and 500 mg NH4+/l as target pollutants. Direct biological treatment of the real wastewater was not possible due to the toxicity of organic compounds. Activated carbon adsorption and UV(A-B)-irradiation were efficient in detoxifying the effluent for subsequent biological treatment as inoculation of pretreated samples with the algal-bacterial consortium was followed by complete phenol removal and NH4+ removal of 45%. Complete phenol removal and 33% NH4+ removal were achieved during the fed-batch treatment of artificial wastewater at 6 d hydraulic retention time (HRT). Under continuous feeding at 3.6 d HRT, phenol and NH4+ removal dropped to 58 and 18%, respectively. However, complete phenol removal and 29% NH4+ removal were achieved when 8 g NaHCO3/l was added to the artificial wastewater to enhance algal growth. This study confirms the potential of solar-based industrial wastewater treatment based on solar-based UV pretreatment followed by algal-bacterial biodegradation.  相似文献

The corrosion inhibitory properties of homologous series of acid dihydrazides were studied. Gasometry, potentiodynamic polarization and impedance measurements were recorded for mild steel specimens immersed in 1.0 M H2SO4 or a mixture of 1.0 M H2SO4 + 1.0 M Na2SO4 having the same ionic strength with a pH range from zero to 7. Effect of presence of different concentrations of oxalic, malonic, succinic or pimelic dihydrazide on the corrosion rate of steel in the above solutions were investigated. The results indicated that the protection efficiency of the acid dihydrazides increased with the increase of the number of the methylene groups in the acid dihydrazide molecule. The results are discussed on the basis of the change of each, of the electron density of the donating atoms, of the inhibitor molecules, and the orientation of the inhibitor at the metal surface with the molecular structure of the inhibitor.  相似文献

Mn-doped HgO nanostructured thin films (Hg1-xMnxO) have been prepared using electron beam evaporation technique on Corning glass (1022) substrate at room temperature with different concentrations x = 0, 0.015, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2. The microstructural, morphological, semiconducting, and optoelectronic properties of the films have been investigated. The X-ray diffraction spectra suggest a hexagonal wurtzite type structure with lattice parameters decreased with increasing Mn content. It was found that the average particle size of the films decreases with increasing Mn doping which is confirmed by FE-SEM and AFM micrographs. The optical band gap of the investigated Mn-doped HgO nanocrystalline films is determined from the absorption coefficient and found to increase with the increase of Mn concentration which is attributed to the sp-d exchange interaction and/or the quantum confinement effect. The refractive index and extinction coefficient of the Mn-doped HgO films are also reported. The refractive index dispersion n(λ) is analyzed by single-effective-oscillator dispersion model proposed by the Wemple–DiDomenico (WDD). The oscillator parameters were estimated. The obtained dispersion values are suitable for the design of optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

Renewable energy is a safe and limitless energy source that can be utilized for heating, cooling, and other purposes. Wind energy is one of the most important renewable energy sources. Power fluctuation of wind turbines occurs due to variation of wind velocity. A wind cube is used to decrease power fluctuation and increase the wind turbine’s power. The optimum design for a wind cube is the main contribution of this work. The decisive design parameters used to optimize the wind cube are its inner and outer radius, the roughness factor, and the height of the wind turbine hub. A Gradient-Based Optimizer (GBO) is used as a new metaheuristic algorithm in this problem. The objective function of this research includes two parts: the first part is to minimize the probability of generated energy loss, and the second is to minimize the cost of the wind turbine and wind cube. The Gradient-Based Optimizer (GBO) is applied to optimize the variables of two wind turbine types and the design of the wind cube. The metrological data of the Red Sea governorate of Egypt is used as a case study for this analysis. Based on the results, the optimum design of a wind cube is achieved, and an improvement in energy produced from the wind turbine with a wind cube will be compared with energy generated without a wind cube. The energy generated from a wind turbine with the optimized cube is more than 20 times that of a wind turbine without a wind cube for all cases studied.  相似文献

In recent years, trimeric surfactants have created excitement in the surfactant field because of their properties, which have been found to be better than monomeric or dimeric homologues. Only a limited number of trimeric surfactants have been synthesized and studied so far, probably owing to the difficulty in synthesis. In this article, we synthesized some novel star‐shaped trimeric cationic surfactants based on the alkylation of the 3 hydroxyl groups of the phloroglucinol nuclei as a core (i.e., spacer) with 3 dodecyl or 3 octyl groups (as tails) for the surfactant. The chemical structures were confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis; also the critical micelle concentration was determined by electrical conductivity measurements. These surfactants were used in the synthesis of mesoporous silica nanoparticles by the sol–gel method. The silica particles shape and size were determined using field emission scanning electron microscopy and high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy images. Furthermore, the corrosion inhibitor capability of these surfactants was investigated by monitoring the corrosion rate of iron sheets in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid in the presence and in the absence of different surfactants at 45°C based on the weight loss method. We have used cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a positive control, the obtained results showed a high inhibition efficiency at very low concentrations, and the prepared trimeric surfactants exhibited a higher anticorrosion efficiency than the CTAB surfactants.  相似文献
