Iron deficiency – is there a role for the food industry?

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies worldwide, in both developing and developed regions. Although the aetiology of iron deficiency and resultant anaemia may be multifaceted, inadequate iron intakes, poor iron absorption and disease status may all be underlying causes. Whilst nutrition and supplement interventions may go some way towards improving iron status in ‘at‐risk’ populations, their efficacy can be questioned. New approaches, including food‐based strategies, may be an alternative means of improving the iron status and health of the public sectors. Economically, food‐based approaches may also be more cost‐effective than iron supplements. This paper aims to discuss how the food industry may play an important role in improving the iron status of public sectors, helping to prevent iron deficiency and need for tablet‐based iron supplements.     

厌氧-缺氧-ALMBR法处理焦化废水的试验研究

采用厌氧—缺氧—ALMBR工艺处理焦化废水。在充填了横断面具有蜂窝胞壁结构纤维滤料的厌氧池和缺氧池中收集池内出气作为气源回曝气池中,在缺氧的条件下形成气升循环。好氧池为气提升三相循环流化床结构的MBR(ALMBR),不设二沉池,MLSS高达11～12 g/L。连续3个月的试验表明,焦化废水进水COD_(Cr)1950 mg/L、NH_3—N 150 mg/L时,出水COD_(Cr) 144 mg/L、NH_3—N 9.8 mg/L。工艺具有良好的抗冲击负荷能力,能够维持较高的污泥浓度,运行稳定,操作简单且管理方便。装有蜂窝胞壁填料的缺氧池COD_(Cr)去除率明显高于装有软性纤维填料缺氧池。     

Research and applications of infrared thermal imaging systems suitable for developing countries

It is a common situation in most developing countries that the utilization ratio of the sources of energy is low, the reliability service of equipment is poor, the cost of installation maintenance is high, the loss due to conflagration is heavy, and so on. Therefore, they are in urgent need of using infrared thermal imaging technique to improve their energy saving, equipment diagnosis as well as fire searching. But the infrared thermal imaging systems in the world market so far are not suitable for their use. This paper summarizes the research on two dimensional real time infrared thermal imaging systems on the basis of electron beam scanning and pyroelectric detection, as well as their applications in industry in China.
