Brow position after blepharoplasty is somewhat controversial. Some authors insist that brow position remains unchanged after surgery. On the other hand, there is also an opinion that brow position changes after surgery.We evaluate the influence of upper blepharoplasty or correction of ptosis on brow position in East Asians. Sixty patients (120 eyes) who underwent upper blepharoplasty or levator advancement were evaluated for change in brow position. Marginal reflex distance 1, brow height from medial canthus, upper eyelid margin on midpupillary level, lateral canthus, and brow height from the center of the pupil were measured before surgery and 6 months after surgery. The distance between the upper lid margin and the brow was shortened after upper blepharoplasty or levator advancement, which could cause brow depression. Change in brow height was greater after levator advancement than after blepharoplasty. These findings might be helpful for the prediction of brow position after surgery. Our study also implies that the possibility of a change in postoperative brow position change should be explained to patients before surgery, particularly ptosis patients. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of PAX9 gene to the risk of nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NS-CL/P). The samples consisted of 142 Korean NS-CL/P families (90 males and 52 females; 9 cleft lip, 26 cleft lip and alveolus, and 107 cleft lip and palate; 76 trios and 66 dyads). A total of 10 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were tested for association with Korean CL/P case-parent trios using transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) and conditional logistic regression models. The minor allele frequency, heterozygosity, and a χ test for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium at each SNP were computed between parents. Pairwise linkage disequilibrium was computed as both D' and r for all SNPs. Both allelic and genotypic TDTs were performed for individual SNPs using family-based association test program. Sliding windows of haplotypes consisting of 2 to 8 SNPs were tested using haplotype-based association test program. Genotypic odd ratios were obtained from conditional logistic regression models using STATA software. The family-based TDT using individual SNPs and 2- to 8-SNP haplotypes of the gene indicated a significant association at rs17104928 (P = 0.014). The haplotype analysis revealed that the association was most significant for the haplotype consisting of 3 SNPs (rs2073247, rs17104928, and rs17176643; P = 0.007). G/A heterozygote at rs17104928 had a significantly increased association with NS-CL/P (genotypic odd ratio, 2.88; 95% confidence interval, 1.42-5.84; P = 0.0014, dominant model). The high-risk SNP and genotype may provide a better understanding of the etiologic role of PAX9 gene in NS-CL/P and potential options for genetic counseling. 相似文献

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) results from the accumulation of deregulated tumor suppressor genes and/or oncogenes in hepatocytes. Inactivation of TP53 and inhibition of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling are among the most common molecular events in human liver cancers. Thus, we assessed whether inactivation of TGF-β signaling, by deletion of the TGF-β receptor, type II (Tgfbr2), cooperates with Trp53 loss to drive HCC formation. Albumin-cre transgenic mice were crossed with floxed Trp53 and/or floxed Tgfbr2 mice to generate mice lacking p53 and/or Tgfbr2 in the liver. Deletion of Trp53 alone (Trp53(KO) ) resulted in liver tumors in approximately 41% of mice by 10 months of age, whereas inactivation of Tgfbr2 alone (Tgfbr2(KO) ) did not induce liver tumors. Surprisingly, deletion of Tgfbr2 in the setting of p53 loss (Trp53(KO) ;Tgfbr2(KO) ) decreased the frequency of mice with liver tumors to around 17% and delayed the age of tumor onset. Interestingly, Trp53(KO) and Trp53(KO) ;Tgfbr2(KO) mice develop both HCC and cholangiocarcinomas, suggesting that loss of p53, independent of TGF-β, may affect liver tumor formation through effects on a common liver stem cell population. Assessment of potential mechanisms through which TGF-β signaling may promote liver tumor formation in the setting of p53 loss revealed a subset of Trp53(KO) tumors that express increased levels of alpha-fetoprotein. Furthermore, tumors from Trp53(KO) mice express increased TGF-β1 levels compared with tumors from Trp53(KO) ;Tgfbr2(KO) mice. Increased phosphorylated Smad3 and ERK1/2 expression was also detected in the tumors from Trp53(KO) mice and correlated with increased expression of the TGF-β responsive genes, Pai1 and Ctgf. CONCLUSION: TGF-β signaling paradoxically promotes the formation of liver tumors that arise in the setting of p53 inactivation. 相似文献

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) has been reported in association with Sjögren''s syndrome (SS). Drug-induced AIH has been rarely reported. A rare case of the co-development of AIH and SS in a 53-year-old woman after the consumption of herbal medicines is described. After admission, the patient complained of dryness in her mouth, and she was subsequently diagnosed with SS, which had not been detected previously. The patient''s bilirubin and aminotransferase levels initially decreased following conservative management; however, they later began to progressively increase. A diagnosis of AIH was made based on the scoring system proposed by the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group. The patient was administered a combination of prednisolone and azathioprine, and the results of follow-up liver-function tests were found to be within the normal range. This is an unusual case of AIH and SS triggered simultaneously by the administration of herbal medicines. 相似文献
