The growing numbers of golf communities are attracting a diverse group of homebuyers who experience varying levels of neighborhood satisfaction. A multinomial logistic regression analysis with follow-up ANOVA reveals that homeowners in one region of Spain who believe there are more advantages than disadvantages to living in a golf community are more likely to be older, Spanish, and evaluate the natural environment, sports facilities, and water supply of their community as better. Meanwhile, those who perceive more disadvantages cite the limitations on using the golf course for non-golf activities, high housing costs, automobile dependence, and lack of services and shops. Thus, satisfaction with the golf community varies depending on the residents’ personal characteristics as well as their evaluation of the neighborhood’s characteristics, but is not directly attributable to whether they play golf or whether the course was a decisive factor in choosing the house.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to analyse the consequences of applying high pressures (100 and 300 MPa for 5 and 20 min) on characteristics such as water and fat binding properties, texture, colour, microstructure and microbiology of low-fat (90 g kg−1, LF) and high-fat (247 g kg−1, HF) meat emulsions. Pressurising of LF and HF samples at 300 MPa caused a decline (P<0·05) in emulsion stability, which was more pronounced at the higher pressure. The influence of high pressures on emulsion texture varies according to fat content. In HF samples, high pressure caused a decrease (P<0·05) in Kramer shear force and Kramer energy, regardless of pressure intensity or time. Pressurisation generally caused increase (P<0·05) in the colour lightness parameter in sausages; the effect on redness and yellowness, however, was dependent on fat content, pressure intensity and pressure time. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

The global challenge to prevent fungal spoilage and mycotoxin contamination on food and feed requires the development of new antifungal strategies. Antimicrobial peptides and proteins (AMPs) with antifungal activity are gaining much interest as natural antifungal compounds due to their properties such as structure diversity and function, antifungal spectrum, mechanism of action, high stability and the availability of biotechnological production methods. Given their multistep mode of action, the development of fungal resistance to AMPs is presumed to be slow or delayed compared to conventional fungicides. Interestingly, AMPs also accomplish important biological functions other than antifungal activity, including anti-mycotoxin biosynthesis activity, which opens novel aspects for their future use in agriculture and food industry to fight mycotoxin contamination. AMPs can reach intracellular targets and exert their activity by mechanisms other than membrane permeabilization. The mechanisms through which AMPs affect mycotoxin production are varied and complex, ranging from oxidative stress to specific inhibition of enzymatic components of mycotoxin biosynthetic pathways. This review presents natural and synthetic antifungal AMPs from different origins which are effective against mycotoxin-producing fungi, and aims at summarizing current knowledge concerning their additional effects on mycotoxin biosynthesis. Antifungal AMPs properties and mechanisms of action are also discussed.  相似文献

A study was made of the effect that final internal processing temperature (63, 70 and 78°C) and chilling storage (2°C) exerted on the characteristics (cooking loss, purge loss, colour, Instron texture profile analysis) of high-fat (242 g kg−1) and low-fat (100 g kg−1) bologna sausage. High-fat sausages were harder and chewier than low-fat sausages. Lower fat contents were accompanied by a significant reduction in the cooking loss and purge loss. Binding properties were not affected ( P> 0·05) by final internal cooking temperature. In general, Hunter colour parameter a values were higher in low-fat samples subjected to a high final internal cooking temperature than in those cooked up to only 63°C. High internal temperatures produced harder meat emulsions, an effect which was more pronounced in high-fat than in low-fat sausages. Cohesiveness and springiness of sausages was not affected ( P> 0·05) by heat treatment. There were no major variations in textural parameters as a result of chilled storage.  相似文献

Mesoporous silica nanomaterials have emerged as promising vehicles in controlled drug delivery systems due to their ability to selectively transport, protect, and release pharmaceuticals in a controlled and sustained manner. One drawback of these drug delivery systems is their preparation procedure that usually requires several steps including the removal of the structure-directing agent (surfactant) and the later loading of the drug into the porous structure. Herein, we describe the preparation of mesoporous silica nanoparticles, as drug delivery systems from structure-directing agents based on the kidney-protector drug cilastatin in a simple, fast, and one-step process. The concept of drug-structure-directing agent (DSDA) allows the use of lipidic derivatives of cilastatin to direct the successful formation of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs). The inherent pharmacological activity of the surfactant DSDA cilastatin-based template permits that the MSNs can be directly employed as drug delivery nanocarriers, without the need of extra steps. MSNs thus synthesized have shown good sphericity and remarkable textural properties. The size of the nanoparticles can be adjusted by simply selecting the stirring speed, time, and aging temperature during the synthesis procedure. Moreover, the release experiments performed on these materials afforded a slow and sustained drug release over several days, which illustrates the MSNs potential utility as drug delivery system for the cilastatin cargo kidney protector. While most nanotechnology strategies focused on combating the different illnesses this methodology emphasizes on reducing the kidney toxicity associated to cancer chemotherapy.  相似文献

The structural application of plywood boards has increased considerably in recent years. In this context, determining plywood mechanical properties such as bending strength and modulus of elasticity through predictive models using more-easily obtained properties is a very useful tool for in-factory quality control. Artificial neural networks have demonstrated their high capacity for modelling complex relations between variables, considerably improving on results obtained through regression techniques. Four neural networks were developed to obtain these mechanical properties by determining board thickness, moisture content, specific gravity, bending strength and modulus of elasticity of test pieces of small dimensions. The results were compared with those of a regression model and in all cases the results of the present study were better.  相似文献

We have evaluated the effect of thermal annealing on the morphology, crystalline phase and elemental composition of high-k dielectric HfO(2)-on-GaAs nanopatterns at 500-620 °C by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). While the HfO(2)-GaAs interface continues to be atomically abrupt at 620 °C, we have found a gradual shrinkage in the pattern linewidth and period with increasing temperature. Facet formation triggered by a nanoscale-modulated sequence of tensile and compressive stresses on the GaAs substrate, observed at 620 °C, has been attributed to a volumetric expansion of the HfO(2) nanostructures, caused by the tetragonal/cubic to monoclinic HfO(2) phase transformation and, to a lesser extent, by solid-state diffusion of As into HfO(2).  相似文献

Probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics are frequently-used components for the elaboration of functional food. Currently, most of the commercialized probiotics are limited to a few strains of the genera Bifidobacteria, Lactobacillus and Streptococcus, most of which produce exopolysaccharides (EPS). This suggests that the beneficial properties of these microorganisms may be related to the biological activities of these biopolymers. In this work we report that a 2-substituted-(1,3)-β-d-glucan of non-dairy bacterial origin has a prebiotic effect on three probiotic strains. Moreover, the presence of this β-d-glucan potentiates in vitro adhesion of the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 to human intestinal epithelial cells.  相似文献
