NdFeB magnet scrap is an alternative source of neodymium that could have a significantly lower impact on the environment than current mining and extraction processes. Neodymium can be readily oxidized in the presence of oxygen, which makes it easy to recover neodymium in oxide form. Thermochemical data and phase diagrams for neodymium oxide containing systems is, however, very limited. Thermodynamic modeling of the B2O3-FeO-Fe2O3-Nd2O3 system was hence performed to obtain accurate phase diagrams and thermochemical properties of the system. Key phase diagram experiments were also carried out for the FeO-Nd2O3 system in saturation with iron to improve the accuracy of the present modeling. The modified quasichemical model was used to describe the Gibbs energy of the liquid oxide phase. The Gibbs energy functions of the liquid phase and the solids were optimized to reproduce all available and reliable phase diagram data, and thermochemical properties of the system. Finally the optimized database was applied to calculate conditions for selective oxidation of neodymium from NdFeB magnet waste.  相似文献

In the online clustering problems, the classification of points into sets (called clusters) is done in an online fashion. Points arrive one by one at arbitrary locations, and we have to assign them to clusters at the time of arrival without any information about the further points. A point can be assigned to an existing cluster, or a new cluster can be opened for it. We study two-dimensional variants in the l norm, thus clusters are actually squares. The cost of a cluster is the sum of a fixed setup cost and the area of the square. The goal is to minimize the sum of the costs of the clusters used by the algorithm. We study two variants, both maintaining the properties that a point which was assigned to a given cluster must remain assigned to this cluster, and clusters cannot be merged. In the strict variant, the size and the exact location of the cluster must be fixed when it is initialized. In the flexible variant, the algorithm can shift the cluster or expand it, as long as it contains all points assigned to it. We present a 7-competitive algorithm in the strict model and an approximately 5.22-competitive algorithm for the flexible variant. We also give lower bounds on the possible competitive ratio, this bound is 2.768 in the strict model and 1.743 in the flexible model.  相似文献

Correct estimation of the dialysis patients' hydration status remains an important clinical challenge. Bioimpedance measurements have been validated by various physiological tests, and the use of brain‐type natriuretic peptide (BNP) has been validated by inferior vena cava diameter measurements. This is an observational cohort study that evaluated the correspondence between bioimpedance‐measured overhydration percentage (OH%) and BNP. We measured predialysis OH% by bioimpedance apparatus (Body Composition Monitor) and BNP by microparticle enzyme‐linked immunoassay in 41 prevalent stable hemodialysis patients, 19 (46%) women, aged 58.9 ± 14.5 years. The cohort's average BNP was 2694 ± 3278 pg/mL and 10 (24.4%) of these 41 patients had BNP < 500 pg/mL (average 260.7 ± 108.5). The OH% was 8.5 ± 7.0% among those with a BNP < 500 pg/mL, while the rest of the population had an OH% of 21.4 ± 8.0%, corresponding to excess volumes of 1.6 ± 1.3 and 4.4 ± 3.8 L, respectively. The OH% vs. BNP relationship was best described by the exponential regression of y = 216.4e0.097x, predicting a BNP of 216.4 pg/mL at 0% overhydration status (r 0.61). Receiver‐operating curves revealed an area under the curve of 0.885 for BNP when the OH% was set ≥15% of overhydration and an area under the curve of 0.918 for OH% when the BNP was set ≥500 pg/mL for being abnormal. We conclude that in our cohort there was a high degree of correspondence between these two tests with an exponential relationship between the measurements.  相似文献

Quartz and carbonaceous materials, which are used in the production of silicon as well as electrodes and refractories in the silicon furnace, contain trace elements mostly in the form of oxides. These oxides can be reduced to gaseous compounds and leave the furnace or stay in the reaction products—metal and slag. This article examines the behavior of trace elements in hydrothermal quartz and quartzite in the reaction of SiO2 with Si or SiC. Mixtures of SiO2 (quartz or quartzite), SiC, and Si in forms of lumps or pellets were heated to 1923 K and 2123 K (1650°C and 1850°C) in high purity graphite crucibles under Argon gas flow. The gaseous compounds condensed in the inner lining of the tube attached to the crucible. The phases present in the reacted charge and the collected condensates were studied quantitatively by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and qualitatively by Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA). Contaminants in the charge materials, reacted charge and condensate were analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS). Muscovite in the mineral phase of quartz melted and formed two immiscible liquid phases: an Al-rich melt at the core of the mineral, and a SiO2-rich melt at the mineral boundaries. B, Mn, and Pb in quartz were removed during heating in reducing atmosphere at temperature above 1923 K (1650°C). Mn, Fe, Al and B diffused from quartz into silicon. P concentration was under the detection limit. Quartzite and hydrothermal quartz had different initial impurity levels: quartzite remained more impure after reduction experiment but approached purity of hydrothermal quartz upon silica reduction.  相似文献

In this study, a novel and simple diffractive spectrographic method for real-time measurements of circular dichroism (CD) is considered from a theoretical and experimental approach. A demonstrator prototype of the CD spectrograph has been developed and its performance has been compared with a commercial phase-modulation CD spectrometer. The main element of the device is a polarization holographic grating, recorded in a thin photosensitive organic film, by two interfering opposite circularly polarized beams. A peculiarity of this grating is that the amplitude of the +1 (-1) order of diffraction is proportional to the right (left) circular polarization component of the incoming beam. Here we demonstrate that the CD spectrum of a specimen can be easily evaluated from the intensities of the diffracted beams. A white light beam passing through the specimen is diffracted from the grating and the intensities of the +/-1 orders of diffraction are measured. Due to the spectral selectivity of the grating, the CD at each wavelength can be evaluated at the same time using two linear array detectors.  相似文献

Type 1 diabetes is characterized by insulin deficiency, type 2 by both insulin deficiency and insulin resistance: in both conditions, hyperglycaemia is accompanied by an increased cardiovascular risk, due to increased atherosclerotic plaque formation/instabilization and impaired collateral vessel formation. An important factor in these phenomena is the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), a molecule produced also by Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (VSMC). We aimed at evaluating the role of high glucose on VEGF-A(164) synthesis and secretion in VSMC from lean insulin-sensitive and obese insulin-resistant Zucker rats (LZR and OZR). In cultured aortic VSMC from LZR and OZR incubated for 24 h with d-glucose (5.5, 15 and 25 mM) or with the osmotic controls l-glucose and mannitol, we measured VEGF-A(164) synthesis (western, blotting) and secretion (western blotting and ELISA). We observed that: (i) d-glucose dose-dependently increases VEGF-A(164) synthesis and secretion in VSMC from LZR and OZR (n = 6, ANOVA p = 0.002-0.0001); (ii) all the effects of 15 and 25 mM d-glucose are attenuated in VSMC from OZR vs. LZR (p = 0.0001); (iii) l-glucose and mannitol reproduce the VEGF-A(164) modulation induced by d-glucose in VSMC from both LZR and OZR. Thus, glucose increases via an osmotic mechanism VEGF synthesis and secretion in VSMC, an effect attenuated in the presence of insulin resistance.  相似文献

Polyphenol compounds, particularly caffeoylquinic acids and flavonoids, were measured in different tissues and developmental stages of 6 artichoke varietal types diffused in the Mediterranean region. Flower heads were subdivided into external, intermediate, internal bracts, and receptacle, while leaves were collected at the vegetative and productive stages. The main polyphenols detected were chlorogenic acid, cynarin, luteolin 7-O-rutinoside, and luteolin 7-O-glucoside. "Violet de Provence" artichoke proved to retain the highest content of total phenols. Single polyphenols accumulated preferentially in specific parts of capitula. In leaves, most polyphenols were detected in the productive stage of the plant. Altogether, results provide useful indications for the promotion of artichoke as nutraceutical food and for the extraction of health-promoting substances in particular tissues/stages of the artichoke plant. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: We describe the content of phenolic compounds in various artichoke tissues, developmental stages, and varieties. Results indicate that artichoke leaves represent an important source of these health-promoting compounds, also useful for phytopharmaceutical applications. A wider utilization of specific artichoke types should be strongly encouraged not only as a food for the fresh market, as they are now used, but also for the pharmaceutical industry, since the content of phenolic compounds is abundant both in the heads and in the leaves.  相似文献

Tomato products (pulp, puree and paste) submitted to accelerated aging (30, 40 and 50 °C for 3 months) were studied to evaluate variations in the kinetics of the degradation of antioxidants and antioxidant activity. The carotenoids lycopene and β‐carotene, ascorbic acid, rutin and total phenolics were analysed. The antioxidant activity was measured using (a) the xanthine oxidase (XOD)/xanthine system, which generates superoxide radicals and hydrogen peroxide, and (b) the linoleic acid/CuSO4 system, which promotes lipid peroxidation. The ascorbic acid content decreased even at 30 °C, following pseudo‐first‐order kinetics, with an activation energy of 105 200 J mol?1 for tomato pulp and 23 600 J mol?1 for tomato paste. The lower the initial ascorbic acid content, the higher was the degradation rate. Variations in phenolic compounds occurred at 40 °C and higher, following pseudo‐zero order kinetics. The antioxidant activity of the hydrophilic fraction of the tomato products depended on both antioxidant degradation and the Maillard reaction and could not be described by a kinetic model. The β‐carotene content decreased even at 30 °C, whereas the lycopene content was stable in all samples. The antioxidant activity of the lipophilic fraction of the tomato products decreased following pseudo‐first order kinetics, with an activation energy of 22 200 J mol?1 for tomato pulp and 20 200 J mol?1 for tomato paste. Quality aspects of oysters (Crassostrea gigas) from a suspended culture in the lagoon of Venice (Valle Dogà) were examined in different seasons over a 1‐year period. Ecophysiological and commercial quality indicators (condition index, content of meat, shell and intervalvar fluid), nutritional quality parameters (proximate and mineral composition, glycogen content, fatty acid profile, cholesterol, plant sterols, fat‐soluble vitamins content) and levels of organic pollutants (polychlorinated biphenyls and organochlorine pesticides) were determined at different times of the year. Seasonal variations were observed in the nutrient content, with particular regard to moisture (ranging from 866.8 g kg?1 in June to 938.8 g kg?1 in September), protein (23.9 g kg?1 in September to 76.6 g kg?1 in June), ash (22.5 g kg?1 in February to 29.5 g kg?1 in July), lipid (3.0 g kg?1 in September to 8.8 g kg?1 in June) and glycogen (0.7 g kg?1 in September to 11.5 g kg?1 in February). In spite of this variability, the nutritional quality of the oysters was generally good, especially just before gamete release when the concentration of nutrients was at its maximum. Low levels of organochlorine chemicals were detected in the edible meat of oysters but, because only a limited number of samples were analysed, no general conclusion can be drawn on the safety of seafood from this area.
