A calibration of three types of GafChromic radiochromic film (HS, MD-55, and HD-810) was carried out on the Crocker Nuclear Laboratory's 76 in. cyclotron at UC Davis over doses ranging from 0.001 to 15 kGy. The film was digitized with a scanning microdensitometer with which it was scanned twice with two different filters to increase the film's effective dynamic range. We demonstrate how this calibrated film can be used to measure the spectrum and total energy of a laser generated proton beam. This technique was applied to an experiment on the 10 J, 100 fs Callisto laser at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The resulting proton spectrum was compared to that obtained by simultaneous measurement of Ti nuclear activation; the two methods give the same proton beam slope temperature and agree in number of protons to within 27%.  相似文献

Ion beam extraction from two different ion sources with single aperture triode extraction columns was simulated with the particle beam transport codes PBGUNS and IGUN. For each ion source, the simulation results are compared to experimental data generated on well-equipped test stands. Both codes reproduced the qualitative behavior of the extracted ion beams to incremental and scaled changes to the extraction electrode geometry observed on the test stands. Numerical values of optimum beam currents and beam emittance generated by the simulations also agree well with test stand data.  相似文献

This paper describes the synthesis of phosphorus‐containing polyester‐urethanes and their applications in nanoclay composites and coatings. Polyester was prepared by the reaction of bis(bisphenol‐A) monophenyl phosphonate, maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride. The polyester was reacted with various diols such as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and propylene glycol to obtain polyester polyols. Synthesized polyester polyols were characterized by chemical analysis and instrumental analysis and was used further to react with different isocyanates to develop polyester‐urethanes. The synthesized polyester‐urethanes were blended with organo‐modified montmorillonite nanoclay (1 wt%, 3 wt% and 5 wt%) and were cast in a mold and coated on mild steel panels. The thermal stability of neat polyester‐urethane and the nanoclay composites was determined by thermogravimetric analysis. The flame retardant properties of cast films and their composites were determined by the limiting oxygen index and UL‐94 test methods. The physical and mechanical properties of coatings such as pot life, drying properties, scratch hardness, pencil hardness, impact resistance, adhesion and flexibility were investigated. The chemical resistance properties of the coatings were also determined in different reagents. The data reveal that the polyester‐urethane nanoclay composites with 3 wt% clay hold promise for use in effective flame retardant coatings. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Stable operation of superconducting magnets depend critically on the balance of heat deposition rate versus heat extraction rate by the cryo-coolant. Thus, the mass flow rate of the coolant in case of force-flow cooled superconducting magnet with Cable-In-Co-nduit-Conductor (CICC) construction becomes an important factor for optimum stability of magnets. The Toroidal and Poloidal Field magnets of Steady-state Superconducting Tokamak-1 (SST-1) is made of superconducting CICC with a void fraction of 40 %±2 %. For adequate cooling of magnets, supercritical helium at 4 bar and 4.5 K is forced-flown through the voids. Effect of temperature on mass flow rate and pressure drop in SST-1 CICC is studied in a 7 m long piece wound helically. The experimental friction factor of the CICC is also measured at different temperatures and flow rates and is compared with the standard Katheder equation and Tada equation. Also, based on the new findings obtained from the experimental results, the dimensionless Reynolds number has been slightly modified. This new number is used to propose a modified Katheder correlation for the friction factor in CICCs similar to that of SST-1.  相似文献

Chemiresistive polymer composite ribbons that function as chemical detectors were produced from solution-cast films of polymers and carbon composites. An array with multiple polymer sensor threads was exposed to dimethyl methyl phosphonate, a nerve agent simulant, and different interferents in the vapor phase. Principal component analysis was used to differentiate between the analytes. The response of the ribbon sensors as a function of the carbon composite and the host polymer source was investigated. The freestanding threads/sensors were mounted into a cell perpendicular to the gas flow to provide little pressure drop and were imbedded into fabrics to provide an example of a small, low-cost, wearable chemical sensor. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper presents the use of micro-particle imaging velocimetry (micro-PIV) to analyse fluid flow and hence ion replenishment in PCB micro-via during the electroplating process. The cross section of a PCB via is fabricated in PMMA to allow optical access to the sample. Fluid flow within two 1:1 aspect ratio blind micro-vias, one with straight side walls and the other with tapered side walls were compared. Flow is also analysed in a 1:1 aspect ratio through via. Flow rates measured using micro-PIV are used to validate simulated flow models. The results show that there are increased flow rates within the blind via with tapered side walls. This goes some way to explaining the improved electroplating results obtained in industry when tapered vias are used. Initial experimental results using megasonic streaming to remove bubbles from blind micro-via and promote ion transportation within high aspect ratio PCB micro-via to enhance electrodeposition are also reported.  相似文献

Inhalation of particulate matter is associated with adverse health outcomes. The fluorescent portion of supermicron particulate matter has been used as a proxy for bioaerosols. The sources and emission rates of fluorescent particles in residential environments are not well-understood. Using an ultraviolet aerodynamic particle sizer (UVAPS), emissions of total and fluorescent supermicron particles from common human activities were investigated during the HOMEChem campaign, a test-house investigation of the chemistry of indoor environments. Human occupancy and activities, including cooking and mopping, were found to be considerable sources of indoor supermicron fluorescent particles, which enhanced the indoor particle concentrations by two orders of magnitude above baseline levels. The estimated total (fluorescent) mass emission rates for the activities tested were in the range of 4-30 (1-11) mg per person meal for cooking and 0.1-4.9 (0.05-4.7) mg/h for occupancy and mopping. Model calculations indicate that, once released, the dominant fate of coarse particles (2.5-10 micrometer in diameter) was deposition onto indoor surfaces, allowing for the possibility of subsequent resuspension and consequent exposures over durations much longer than the ventilation time scale. Indoor coarse particle deposition would also contribute to soiling of indoor surfaces.  相似文献

The strategic approach of this article is to characterize the continuous-flow mixing of pseudoplastic fluids possessing yield stress in a stirred reactor with the Maxblend impeller. Dynamic experiments were carried out through the frequency-modulated random binary input of a brine solution to determine the extent of non-ideal flows. Mixing quality was determined on the basis of the extent of channeling and fully mixed volume. The effects of important parameters such as impeller speed (25–500 rpm), absence of baffles, fluid rheology (0.5–1.5%), fluid flow rate (3.20–14.17 L min−1), and the locations of inlet/outlet on the dynamic performance of the continuous-flow mixing vessel were explored. The performance of the Maxblend impeller was then compared to the performances of various types of impellers such as close-clearance (an anchor), axial-flow (a Lightnin A320), and radial-flow (a Scaba 6SRGT) impellers. It was found when the channeling approached zero and the fully mixed volume approached the total fluid volume in the vessel, the power drawn by the A320 impeller and the Scaba impeller were about 2.9 and 4.3 times greater than that of the Maxblend impeller. Thus, the Maxblend impeller was able to drastically improve the performance of continuous-flow mixing with huge power savings. The mixing quality was further improved by optimizing the impeller speed, decreasing the fluid flow rate, decreasing the fluid concentration, and using bottom inlet- top outlet configuration. The flow non-ideality of the mixing system increased in the absence of the baffles. Thus, better mixing quality and more energy savings can be achieved by employing the findings of this study.  相似文献

The dialysis patient is prone to elevations in the calcium phosphorus product and hyperparathyroidism, which contributes to valvular and vascular calcification. We present the case of a young lady on chronic dialysis that developed mitral calcification complicated by severe mitral stenosis, caseous calcification and retinal embolization.
