Gravel constitutes the filter medium in subsurface flow constructed wetlands (SSF CWs) and its porosity and hydraulic conductivity decrease over time (clogging), limiting the lifespan of the systems. Using gravel of poor quality accelerates clogging in wetlands. In this study, gravel samples from six different wetland systems were compared with regards to their mineral composition and mechanical resistance properties. Results showed that both mineralogy and texture are related to mechanical resistance. Accordingly, gravel with high content of quartz (> 80%) showed a lower percentage of broken particles (0.18-1.03%) than those with lower content of quartz (2.42-4.56% media broken). Although granite is formed by high durability minerals, its non-uniform texture results in a lower resistance to abrasion (ca. 10% less resistance than calcareous gravel). Therefore, it is recommended to use gravels composed mainly of quartz or, when it is not available, limestone gravels (rounded and uniform) are recommended instead. The resistance to abrasion (LAA test) seems to be a good indicator to determine the mechanical properties of gravels used in CWs. It is recommended to use gravels with LAA below 30% in order to avoid a rapid clogging due to gravel crumbling and subsequent mineral solids accumulation.  相似文献

In this work, a review and comprehensive evaluation of heuristics and metaheuristics for the m-machine flowshop scheduling problem with the objective of minimising total tardiness is presented. Published reviews about this objective usually deal with a single machine or parallel machines and no recent methods are compared. Moreover, the existing reviews do not use the same benchmark of instances and the results are difficult to reproduce and generalise. We have implemented a total of 40 different heuristics and metaheuristics and we have analysed their performance under the same benchmark of instances in order to make a global and fair comparison. In this comparison, we study from the classical priority rules to the most recent tabu search, simulated annealing and genetic algorithms. In the evaluations we use the experimental design approach and careful statistical analyses to validate the effectiveness of the different methods tested. The results allow us to clearly identify the state-of-the-art methods.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a genetic algorithm (GA) for solving the DNA fragment assembly problem in a computational grid. The algorithm, which is named GrEA, is a steady-state GA which uses a panmitic population, and it is based on computing parallel function evaluations in an asynchronous way. We have implemented GrEA on top of the Condor system, and we have used it to solve the DNA assembly problem. This is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem which is growing in importance and complexity as more research centers become involved on sequencing new genomes. While previous works on this problem have usually faced 30 K base pairs (bps) long instances, we have tackled here a 77 K bps long one to show how a grid system can move research forward. After analyzing the basic grid algorithm, we have studied the use of an improvement method to still enhance its scalability. Then, by using a grid composed of up to 150 computers, we have achieved time reductions from tens of days down to a few hours, and we have obtained near optimal solutions when solving the 77 K bps long instance (773 fragments). We conclude that our proposal is a promising approach to take advantage of a grid system to solve large DNA fragment assembly problem instances and also to learn more about grid metaheuristics as a new class of algorithms for really challenging problems.  相似文献

We develop a novel approach for computing the circle Hough transform entirely on graphics hardware (GPU). A primary role is assigned to vertex processors and the rasterizer, overshadowing the traditional foreground of pixel processors and enhancing parallel processing. Resources like the vertex cache or blending units are studied too, with our set of optimizations leading to extraordinary peak gain factors exceeding 358x over a typical CPU execution. Software optimizations, like the use of precomputed tables or gradient information and hardware improvements, like hyperthreading and multicores are explored on CPUs as well. Overall, the GPU exhibits better scalability and much greater parallel performance to become a solid alternative for computing the classical circle Hough transform versus those optimal methods run on emerging multicore architectures.  相似文献

Geographic Routing(GR)algorithms require nodes to periodically transmit HELLO messages to allow neigh- bors to know their positions(beaconing mechanism).Beacon-less routing algorithms have recently been proposed to reduce the control overheads due to these messages.However,existing beacon-less algorithms have not considered realistic physical layers.Therefore,those algorithms cannot work properly in realistic scenarios.In this paper we present a new beacon- less routing protocol called BOSS.Its design is based on the conclusions of our open-field experiments using Tmote-sky sensors.BOSS is adapted to error-prone networks and incorporates a new mechanism to reduce collisions and duplicate messages produced during the selection of the next forwarder node.We compare BOSS with Beacon-Less Routing(BLR) and Contention-Based Forwarding(CBF)algorithms through extensive simulations.The results show that our scheme is able to achieve almost perfect packet delivery ratio(like BLR)while having a low bandwidth consumption(even lower than CBF).Additionally,we carried out an empirical evaluation in a real testbed that shows the correctness of our simulation results.  相似文献

An extension of the Cauer ladder development for synthesizing singly terminated filters with symmetric and asymmetric responses is presented. Basically, a driving‐point immittance including reactive constant elements is carried out in such a way that provides the transmission zeros. The reactive constant elements are introduced into the synthesis for two reasons. The first is to consider the possibility of the asymmetric position of transmission zeros in the real frequency axis. The second one is to obtain canonical forms, i.e. networks with the minimum number of elements in the case of symmetrical responses. To validate the proposed method, a filter with asymmetrical response has been synthesized, comparing different topologies for its use in multiplexers. PURPOSE: To assess the "in vivo" effect of 13-cis-retinoic acid and low dose Ara-C in MDS as well as to establish "in vitro" advantage of retinoid dose-related growth pattern on bone marrow cultures as defined by culture timing and CFU-GM proliferative response. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We evaluated 28 patients diagnosed of MDS according to FAB classification, of whom 4 cases had RA, 8 cases SRA, 14 cases RAEB and 2 cases RAEB-T. Patients who had RA and SRA were treated with oral 13-cis-retinoic acid at doses of 20-40 mg daily for 4 months and those cases with RAEB and RAEB-T had subcutaneous Ara-C at doses of 3 mg/m2 twice a day for 21 days. The "in vivo" and "in vitro" effect of retinoic acid on the haemopoietic differentiation was evaluated by the growth CFU-GM in semisolid cell culture methods. RESULTS: Increasing in vitro concentrations of 13-cis retinoic acid did not enhance the growth of myelodysplastic progenitors. Nevertheless, our study did not find any beneficial therapeutic effect of retinoic compounds in MDS patients. In this study, low-dose Ara-C (3 mg/m2) showed similar effects when compared with higher doses reported by others. Furthermore, in terms of CFU-GM proliferation the concentration of colonies before and after treatment were fairly similar in all but two patients. CONCLUSIONS: The results drawn from our study demonstrated that there is no beneficial advantage of 13-cis-retinoic acid as a differentiation inducing agent on myelodysplastic patients. In contrast, lower doses of Ara-C showed similar effects on haemopoiesis of MDS patients than standard doses of 10-20 mg/m2 but with less side effects.  相似文献

The performance of a minimum L(0)-norm unwrapping algorithm is investigated by use of synthetic digital speckle-pattern interferometry (DSPI) wrapped phase maps that simulate experimentally obtained data. This algorithm estimates its own weights to mask inconsistent pixels. Particular features usually included in DSPI wrapped phase distributions, such as shears, speckle noise, fringe cuts, object physical limits, and superimposed phase maps, are analyzed. Some adequate approaches to solving these features are discussed. Finally, it is shown that a complex case in which shears and fringe cuts coexist in the wrapped phase cannot be solved satisfactorily with the minimum L(0)-norm algorithm by itself. To cope with this problem, we propose a new scheme.  相似文献

Structure changes undergone by pure amorphous hydrated tantalum oxide mixed with different types of carbon when heated in air or chlorine atmospheres were monitored by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Heating in air of pure Ta2O5 causes the appearance of the hexagonal structure -Ta2O5 at 973 K and the ortho-rhombic structure -Ta2O5 at 1173 K. Heating in chlorine atmosphere markedly lowers the temperature at which transformation to the orthorhombic phase occurs. This effect is attributed to recrystallization of tantalum oxide from tantalum chloride and oxygen, both in gaseous phase, formed in a previous chlorination step of the amorphous oxide. When the thermal treatment is performed in chlorine atmosphere the presence of carbon permits the detection of the hexagonal form at 753 K; this temperature varies with the type of carbon and the oxide : carbon ration. © 1998 Kluwer Academic Publishers  相似文献

Algorithms for a realistic variant of flowshop scheduling   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper deals with a realistic variant of flowshop scheduling, namely the hybrid flexible flowshop. A hybrid flowshop mixes the characteristics of regular flowshops and parallel machine problems by considering stages with parallel machines instead of having one single machine per stage. We also investigate the flexible version where stage skipping might occur, i.e., not all stages must be visited by all jobs. Lastly, we also consider job sequence dependent setup times per stage. The optimization criterion considered is makespan minimization. While many approaches for hybrid flowshops have been proposed, hybrid flexible flowshops have been rarely studied. The situation is even worse with the addition of sequence dependent setups. In this study, we propose two advanced algorithms that specifically deal with the flexible and setup characteristics of this problem. The first algorithm is a dynamic dispatching rule heuristic, and the second is an iterated local search metaheuristic. The proposed algorithms are evaluated by comparison against seven other high performing existing algorithms. The statistically sound results support the idea that the proposed algorithms are very competitive for the studied problem.  相似文献
