[目的/意义] 美国《电子资源图书馆员核心能力》标准是专门针对电子资源图书馆员的管理和工作能力而制定的相关标准,内容涵盖了电子资源全生命周期管理中所需要具备的技能和知识,对其内容及实践应用进行研究对我国实现高水平的电子资源管理极具意义。[方法/过程] 对美国《电子资源图书馆员核心能力》标准的内容进行解析,介绍和分析其在学生专业培训、图书馆机构重组、图书馆人员继续教育、图书馆部门及个人工作的评估和图书馆服务平台的迁移和流程重组等案例中的应用方式及效果。[结果/结论] 美国《电子资源图书馆员核心能力》标准可以在图书馆的多个领域发挥作用,图书馆需灵活掌握,根据本馆实际情况借鉴应用,支持电子资源管理领域的深入拓展和人才培养,更好地应对图书馆的动态发展环境。     

Rebuilding: Organizing and Operating Under New Management

In 2014, the highly experienced Head of Electronic Resources and Serials Services at Auburn University Libraries retired. Parallel changes in workflows, staffing, and organizational structure were also taking place, resulting in an intense period of transition that included merging two units. This presentation describes the transition process from the perspective of the new Head of Technical Services and one paraprofessional staff in the merged units. The presentation focuses on the processes of change, guiding philosophies, and lessons learned.     

Health information resources: tradition and innovation in a medical school curriculum

Changes in LCME accreditation for medical colleges fostered the development of Health Information Resources, a required, for-credit course created by the Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center Library Reference Department for the first-year medical school curriculum. Six content areas were developed for inclusion in the syllabus: "Electronic Resources Survival Kit"; "Introduction to Problem Based Resources"; "Introduction to Literature Searching"; "MEDLINE Searching Hands-On/Publishing Pearls & Pitfalls"; "The World Wide Web and Patient Information"; and "Introduction to Electronic Mail." A combination of lectures, hands-on instruction, and active learning techniques were employed in the teaching of this class. Submission of a Health Information Resource Guide and a two-part final exam were required.     

Implementing SUSHI and COUNTER: A Primer for Librarians

Project Counting Online Usage of Networked Electronic Resources (COUNTER) released its first code of practice in 2002. Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) was introduced in 2007 as a way of automating the harvesting of COUNTER reports. Both initiatives have been well adopted yet there is still confusion about how to implement SUSHI. This column offers a primer for library staff wanting to take advantage of the benefits of SUSHI. It starts with a quick review of both COUNTER and SUSHI, then covers options for SUSHI clients, examines SUSHI configuration requirements, demonstrates how to use SUSHI to obtain a COUNTER report and shows an example of working with a COUNTER Journal Reports in Extensible Markup Language (XML) format to create a spreadsheet with a simple cost-per-use and package analysis. By the end the reader should gain enough knowledge to configure a SUSHI client, successfully harvest COUNTER statistics and to perform some basic analysis on that usage.

通过对比分析教育部高校图工委于2004年及2007年两次发布的《电子资源计量指南》及其公布的2007-2009年普通高等学校图书馆主要统计数据中关于电子资源馆藏经费的数据,同时对比美国研究图书馆协会发布的2006-2008年大学图书馆电子资源馆藏经费统计数据,分析讨论国内外大学图书馆馆藏电子资源建设发展趋势和差异,针对这种状况对未来高校图书馆馆藏建设提出几点建议。

COUNTER Code of Practice: A Preview of Release 4

This column provides a preview of what is being discussed for inclusion in release 4 of the Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources (COUNTER) code of practice. We will look at the rationale behind the proposed new reports, changes being considered for the processing guidelines and updated audit expectations.

Getting Started with COUNTER Statistics

A four hour post-conference workshop was offered on Counting Online Usage of Networked Electronic Resources (COUNTER) statistics with the goal of providing participants with hands-on experience working with and manipulating statistics. Best practices and methods were also discussed.     

An evaluation on the effectiveness of Web 2.0 Startpages (Netvibes & Pageflakes) within NHS libraries

Carol McCormick was Learning Resources Advisor in the library at James Cook University Hospital, South Teesside when she completed her BSc (Hons) Librarianship (Work Based Learning) degree at Northumbria University. She gained a 1st Class Honours and is now Learning Resources Librarian. Carol's dissertation formed part of a wider action research project into the provision of current awareness services at James Cook University Hospital. This article reports on the evaluation which was conducted after a Web 2.0 Startpage, or portal, had been introduced to improve access to current awareness information for all staff within the Trust. It is the second article in the Dissertations into practice series to examine the use of web‐based tools to improve access to information for NHS staff. AM

Licensing Digital Content: A Practical Guide for Librarians by Lesley Ellen Harris

Successful implementation of standards like Shared E-Resource Understanding (SERU), Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources (COUNTER), Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI), and I² (Institutional Identifiers) can simplify and improve your ability to manage your e-resources. Other initiatives like the Journal Usage Factor, EigenFactor^?, and Metrics from Scholarly Usage of Resources (MESUR) are envisioned to become the basis for future tools to evaluate the impact of scholarly information. This article will provide a brief survey of current and future standards and initiatives related to e-resources and discuss why they should matter to you.     

MINERVA: Archiving Born-Digital Material at the Library of Congress

ABSTRACT

MINERVA (Mapping the Internet Electronic Resources Virtual Archive) is the Library of Congress's largest archive of born-digital materials. The article discusses crawling to find material, selection, copyright considerations, the importance of metadata, cataloging, and the user interface.     

Rethinking Electronic Resources Workflows

After the technical service department at the University of Northern Colorado's James A. Michener Library underwent a major reorganization, Rick Kerns and his team were given the task to streamline and enhance various electronic resource workflows using internally developed tools. Kerns discussed the development of an interactive form to check e-journal holdings using a Microsoft Access database. He then described the Electronic Serial Correction Form and the Electronic Order Form, which were developed to change paper workflow into an electronic one, making the routing process easier and the forms clearer, more accurate, and searchable. A brief summary of this session, also authored by Ning Han, appeared in the “E-resource Roundup” column of the Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship, Volume 23, Issue 1 (2011: March).     

Listening to Students: Customer Journey Mapping at Birmingham City University Library and Learning Resources

Birmingham City University's Library and Learning Resources’ strategic aim is to improve student satisfaction. A key element is the achievement of the Customer Excellence Standard. An important component of the standard is the mapping of services to improve quality. Library and Learning Resources has developed a methodology to map these “customer journeys” with students. The article considers themes in the published literature and provides an overview of a pilot project and its outcomes. The project's aims are evaluated including an assessment of the effectiveness of the mapping methodology in engaging students, the staff resource implications, and the identification of service improvements.
