This article discusses the history of corporate philanthropy in the United States. It traces the response of corporations to cutbacks in federal spending initiated by President Ronald Reagan. The author concludes that libraries must learn to approach private corporations for in-kind donations, product donations, and volunteer help, as well as grant funds. Because corporations benefit through publicity, name recognition, and prestige, as well as in reduced taxes, it is to their advantage to assist public institutions such as libraries.  相似文献
