[目的/意义]通借通还服务是多校区高校图书馆流通的基本服务,利用通借通还数据,本研究试图从读者需求的角度提出一个能将馆藏资源动态优化的模式。[方法/过程]在考察国内外对于通借通还的研究现状和方法的基础上,借鉴二部图匹配和推荐系统一些相关研究成果,基于网络推断算法提出一个针对高校图书馆通借服务进行优化的模型,并以苏州大学图书馆2013年的借阅情况为训练集进行馆藏优化,使用2014-2015年的约2 469条通借数据对模型的效果进行检验。[结果/结论]分配模型对于预测未来的通借需求有一定效果,通过对馆藏进行优化,可提高图书使用效率,降低配送成本。

If You Build It Will They Come? Using a New Library Building to Establish a Culture of Marketing

Abstract

While most college campuses have strong support for the libraries, as competition on university campuses for limited financial resources gets tougher, support for libraries can be more theoretical than actual. Library users are unaware of the complexity of and expense required for library services. Not only must libraries compete for limited financial resources, they must also compete in a complex information marketplace. Today, libraries must market themselves to their constituents to ensure that services are utilized and appropriate resources are allocated for all formats of library materials. By committing to a strong marketing program, the University Library at Sonoma State University developed strategic plans to gain broader support from faculty, students, administrators and greater use of services. Libraries wishing to explore the possibility of integrating marketing efforts or libraries in the process of a move can adopt and/or adapt some of these techniques.     

Transferring Skills,Transferring Students: A Call To Academic Libraries

The growing number of transfer students on college and university campuses presents a challenge to academic libraries. For years, these libraries have taught students information literacy skills to enhance their abilities to locate, evaluate, and use information in order to be successful students as well as lifelong learners. At many libraries, both direct from high school and transfer students are taught these skills together, without the recognition that either of them has special or diverse needs. Several studies over the years have concluded that the information needs of transfer students differed from those of their native counterparts and stress the importance for separate instruction. A recent survey of some Ohio academic libraries by the authors revealed that the vast majority of these libraries do not provide separate instruction for transfer students. This article, therefore, calls for a dialogue among librarians to continue to discuss this topic and consider developing instructional programs to meet the needs of transfer students.

Abstract

Academic library spaces and services have widely broadened their missions away from providing only traditional research services and quiet spaces for study. Today, academic libraries are increasingly repurposing space and redesigning services to become the hub of innovation on university campuses. The literature explores entrepreneurship and academic libraries from many perspectives but with a common theme of the library as a leader in support of entrepreneurship initiatives on campus.

Abstract

Increased use of geographic information systems on college and university campuses has prompted libraries to ask the question: Where and how can libraries fulfill these digital needs? This paper describes the actions taken by the Syracuse University Library to implement GIS and geo-spatial data services to the University community. Discussion will focus on the planning, administration, public services, collection development, and management issues pertaining to a networked multi-Station GIS lab.     

Student Employees and the Academic Library's Multicultural Mission

Academic libraries play an important role in encouraging cultural diversity on university and college campuses, thus supporting universities' efforts to recruit and retain minority students and faculty. Although geographic and demographic circumstances may constrain a library's ability to recruit minority faculty and classified staff, by recruiting minority student workers a library can contribute materially to university efforts to foster genuine diversity. Strategies employed by the Libraries and Learning Resources Multicultural Affairs Committee at Bowling Green State Unviersity to increase hiring of minority student workers are described.
