A highly purified site of a cytokinin-binding protein with a KD value for3H-BAP of 4.3 nM has been isolated from cotton-plant seedlings by the methods of biospecific and hydrophobic chromatography. A Ca2+-dependent protein kinase C, active at pH 6.5–8.0 has been found in cotton seeds for the first time. An inhibitory action of ELPs and LLPs on the inclusion of3H-thymine and35S-methionine in the cells of a suspension culture and isolated nuclei of cottonplant seedlings has been found. Pectin solutions obtained in the presence of HNO3, HCl, H2SO4, and H3PO4 have been studied by viscometry, turbidity spectra, and ultracentrifugation. Cotton pectin extracts with phosphoric acid proved to be the most unstable. The molecular masses of pectins obtained from various materials (apple, lemon, and grape press residues, beet pulp, and cotton boll valves) ranged between 14,000 and 37,000. The mass spectra of alkaloids isolated from the epigeal part of the plant Arundo donax L. have been investigated. The main pathways of fragmentation under electron impact have been determined for arundine, ardine, donaxaridine, donaxarine, and donaxinine. We have investigated the IR spectra in the region of stretching vibration of N+–H and OH groups of the hydrochlorides of 2,3-trimethylene-3,4-dihydroquinazoline (deoxypeganine, DOP), 2,3-tetramethylene-3,4-dihydroquinazoline (tetrazoline), and 2,3-pentamethylene-3,4-dihydroquinazoline (pentazoline) and peganol and peganine and the corresponding complexes with ZnCl2, CoCl2, and MnCl2. The alkaloid deoxypeganine and some of its derivatives have been subjected to reduction with sodium tetrahydroborate and with the complex NaBH4·BF3·Et2O.
