The occurrence of families of macroinvertebrates has recently been used as the basis for the BMWP (Biological Monitoring Working Party) system of assigning scores to lotic sites. In this study the performance of the system across 268 sites on 41 rivers providing a wide range of physical and chemical features has been appraised. Changes in score and ASPT (average score per taxon) with respect to season and sampling effort have been examined. Seasonal variations were relatively slight and it is concluded that samples taken in any of the three seasons, spring, summer or autumn, were likely to provide consistent estimates of score and particularly ASPT. Sample replication led to substantial accretion of scores but had little effect on ASPT and therefore more information was obtained for less effort when ASPT was used. Data are presented on score and ASPT values for 8 groups of sites derived by multivariate classificatory techniques. Considerable variability in achievable score and ASPT was observed in the different groups of unpolluted sites. In general, scores were highest in the group at the middle of the range of environmental features and lowest in groups at the bottom of the range (lowland areas). ASPT in contrast showed a relatively steady decline in values between groups at the top (mainly upland rivers) and bottom of the range of environmental features. Attempts were made to predict score and ASPT from physical and chemical data, or physical data alone using multiple regression. Equations used to predict ASPT explained on average a higher proportion of the variance (65%) than those predicting scores (22%). It is suggested that predictive equations for ASPT will enable theoretical ASPT to be calculated, thus providing target values against which observed values can be compared. Recommendations to facilitate use and interpretation of the BMWP score system are presented.  相似文献

In freshwaters. Gammarus spp. are more sensitive to organic pollution than Asellus spp. and the relative abundance of the two taxa has been proposed as a pollution index. We tested the validity of this by examining the relationship between the Gammarus: Asellus (G : A) ratio and (1) a suite of physico-chemical variables. (2) established biotic (average score per taxon, ASPT) and richness (species richness (S) and Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera families richness (EPT family richness)) indices generated from the macroinvertebrate community. In addition, we investigated a suspected biotic interaction, predation, between Gammarus and Asellus. Both univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the G: A ratio was sometimes responsive to changes in parameters linked to organic pollution, such as BOD5 and nitrate levels. However, the G : A ratio also appeared responsive to variables not directly linked to organic pollution, such as conductivity and distance from source. There were significant positive correlations among the G : A ratio and the ASPT, S and EPT, indicating that changes in the relative abundances of Gammarus and Asellus were reflected in changes in the pollution sensitivity and richness of the wider macroinvertebrate community. A laboratory experiment revealed significant predation of Asellus aquaticus juveniles by Gammarus duebeni celticus adults, but no reciprocal predation. We propose that the G: A ratio may be useful as a crude measure of organic pollution that could supplement more complex indices in a multimetric approach to pollution monitoring or be used for monitoring individual sites, where a simple technique is required for monitoring purposes over a period of time. Also, we urge recognition of the possible role of biotic interactions among taxa used in the generation of pollution indices.  相似文献

A field study at the Lourens River, South Africa, was undertaken during the pesticide application period between November 2001 and January 2002 in order to investigate the potential relation of agricultural pollution to the aquatic macroinvertebrate fauna. The upper regions of the Lourens River were free of contamination (LR1), whereas subsequent stretches flowing through a 400-ha orchard area (LR2) received transient insecticide peaks. Continuously operating suspended-particle samplers as well as flood samplers operating during runoff events were used to measure pesticide contamination. In addition, various physicochemical and morphological parameters were examined. A survey of the macroinvertebrate communities associated with the rocky substrates was carried out every three weeks. Community indices were calculated using the South African Scoring System (SASS 5) for bioassessment of water quality in rivers. The two sites differed in pesticide pollution as well as in average turbidity levels (LR1 5.5 mg/L; LR2 64.3 mg/L), but were similar in bottom substrate composition and most other abiotic factors. At the downstream site (LR2), pesticide values of 0.05 microg/L azinphos-methyl in water as well as 49 microg/kg azinphos-methyl, 94 microg/kg chlorpyrifos and 122 microg/kg total endosulfan in suspended particles were found during runoff conditions. The macroinvertebrate communities of the two sampling sites were similar in terms of number of total individuals, but differed significantly (ANOVA) in average number of taxa (LR1 11.7, LR2 8.9). Seven out of 17 investigated taxa occurred in significantly reduced numbers or were even absent at the downstream site LR2. The community characteristics determined by SASS 5 showed a significantly less sensitive community structure at the downstream site (TS 41; ASPT 4.6), indicating continuously lower water quality compared to site LR1 (TS 80; ASPT 6.9). It is concluded that the Lourens River macroinvertebrate communities are affected by agricultural pollution, with pesticides and increased turbidity as the most important stressors.  相似文献

This paper describes an investigation into the use of benthic invertebrates to assess impact and recovery following transient pollution events in watercourses. The study showed that benthic macro-invertebrates can be used to assess pollution impact and recovery in streams, provided that (a) the BMWP score is 40 or more (prior to the incident) and (b) there are adequate reference conditions. Monitoring should cover the whole area impacted by the pollutant to allow for spatial variation in benthic macro-invertebrate communities supported by the watercourse. A decision-making strategy for the use of macro-invertebrates in pollution-incident monitoring is provided.  相似文献

Though landscape vegetation in cities is human-mediated and often more diverse than that in surrounding environments, little work has been done to quantify ways that humans shape its composition. Our study identified important sources of variation in perennial vegetation composition within residential neighborhoods of Phoenix, AZ, USA. We hypothesized that neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) should offer some capacity for predicting landscape vegetation richness and abundance in both residential neighborhoods and embedded small city parks. As predicted, neighborhood vegetation richness increased across a gradient of low to high SES (R2=0.89) with the most variation explained by median family income (R2=0.86). In contrast, neighborhood vegetation abundance decreased across a gradient of increased time since disturbance (R2=0.62) with the most variation explained by median year of neighborhood development (R2=0.56). Median year of neighborhood development was also the dominant factor (R2=0.47) in explaining decreased park vegetation abundance across a gradient of increased time since disturbance. We were least able to predict park vegetation richness and could account for only 29% of variation using a SES gradient model with percent of population having a graduate education as the most dominant factor. In residential neighborhoods, we identified more than 3 times the number of landscape vegetation taxa than an earlier report and also found a higher percentage of native vegetation in parks than in surrounding neighborhoods. We discuss these different compositional patterns of perennial vegetation in neighborhoods and embedded parks in terms of their relationship to socioeconomic and disturbance gradients, and a conceptual framework of “top-down” and “bottom-up” human management influences. Our study intimates that residential vegetation composition in rapidly expanding, arid cities like Phoenix is largely driven by “luxury” and legacy effects and should be most rich in neighborhoods with the highest socioeconomic standing and most abundant in newest neighborhoods.  相似文献

The present study analyses the distribution patterns of macroinvertebrate communities in four microhabitats (riffles, glides, leaf litter and bank roots) upstream and downstream of two waste water treatment plant (WWTP) effluents in northern Spain rivers. Macroinvertebrate communities were analysed in November 2006 by taking 5 samples from each of the microhabitats under unaffected (upstream WWTP) and affected (downstream WWTP) conditions, respectively. Water velocity, depth, substrate coarseness and hydraulic stress by means of the Froude number were also estimated at all sampling locations.Under unaffected conditions, the abundance and presence/absence of certain macroinvertebrate taxa were mainly determined by hydraulic characteristics (water velocity and Froude number) and feeding resource availability. However, neither macroinvertebrate richness nor abundance were neither significantly correlated with hydraulic stress nor substrate coarseness, although the number of macroinvertebrate taxa increased in microhabitats with high structural complexity. Macroinvertebrate abundance increased downstream of both WWTPs, while macroinvertebrate richness was not adversely affected by the organic enrichment of water. The structure and composition of macroinvertebrate communities occurring in riffles was similar under unaffected and affected conditions, while communities from leaf litter and submerged bank roots showed important changes above and below the WWTPs, indicating that they are probably the most appropriate communities for water quality assessment.  相似文献

The integration of water quality characteristics with habplot-based habitat quality assessment score (HabQA) has received little attention in ecological quality assessment studies. This study investigated the macroinvertebrate community structure in relation with lake habitat quality and physicochemical water quality variables in Lugo Lake (Ethiopia). Twelve sampling sites (eight agricultural and four recreational) were included. The variation among macroinvertebrates data was significantly explained by HabQA score and soluble reactive phosphorus. The study revealed the greater importance of habitat quality characteristics in comparison with the other conventional physicochemical characteristics on macroinvertebrate community structure. We strongly recommend the use of HabQA system while studying macroinvertebrate community structure for a deeper understanding of the environmental functioning of tropical lakes. The results suggested the need to apply integrated and sustainable protection and management of the lake catchment (including wetlands) to enhance the ecological integrity and hence biodiversity of lakes.  相似文献

Macroinvertebrates were sampled monthly from December 1976 to September 1977 in two 520m long outdoor experimental channels. One channel was maintained at ambient seasonal Mississippi River water temperatures and the other 10°C higher. Maximum water temperature reached 31.0°C in the ambient and 40.8°C in the heated channel. Elevated temperature seasonally altered macroinvertebrate abundance and life history in the channels. Few animals were found in the heated channel during the period of maximum water temperature. Most macroinvertebrate density and composition differences were confined to the channel riffles rather than the pools. Peak total density in the heated channel riffles occurred 3 or 4 weeks before the ambient channel. Total macroinvertebrate density was appreciably higher in the heated channel riffles during the winter and spring months and in the ambient channel riffles during the summer months. This seasonal alteration was due to composition differences of several identified taxa. Reproductive periods for one snail and one isopod species began approx. 2 and 3 months earlier in the heated channel than in the ambient channel. No marked change occurred in the reproductive activities of an amphipod in the two channels.  相似文献

Diversity and community comparison indices were evaluated to determine their utility in quantifying macroinvertebrate response to a catastrophic gasoline spill into Wolf Lodge Creek, Idaho, U.S.A. The Shannon and Brillouin diversity indices, and the following community comparison indices were analyzed: (1) Jaccard's coefficient of similarity; (2) Renkonen's percentage similarity; (3) Bray-Curtis index; (4) Morisita's similarity index; (5) simplified Morisita index; (6) Canberra metric index; and (7) average χ2 index. The Bray-Curtis and average χ2 community comparison indices were more effective in quantifying differences in macroinvertebrate composition between gas-impacted and reference areas of Wolf Lodge Creek following the spill. In addition, these indices tracked the progressive spatial recolonization of macroinvertebrates during the 16 month recovery period. All other indices tested failed to adequately quantify macroinvertebrate community response to the gasoline spill.  相似文献

The bacterial community composition in an activated sludge plant treatment from a bleached kraft pulp mill was monitored over a period of 209 days. Using DGGE and terminal-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (t-RFLP) analysis we generated community DNA fingerprints over the time period. Both methods produce fingerprints that can be used to monitor stability in the system and generate fragments that can be associated with bacterial taxa. Chemical and physical parameters were also collected during that same time frame. We found a number of significant correlations with influent variables such as temperature, chemical oxygen demand (COD), Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chloroform concentrations suggesting that these were the most likely parameters to influence the bacterial community structure. In addition several taxa correlated to important performance indicators such as COD/BOD removals and SVI. Multivariate analysis also confirmed the strong links between taxa variation and temperature, nutrient loads, chloroform and also one class of filaments. Establishing the identity of these taxa and their ecological preferences will greatly enhance our understanding and management of biological treatment systems.  相似文献

Sediment cores, representing a range of watershed characteristics and anthropogenic impacts, were collected from two freshwater marshes at the Xianghai wetlands (Ramsar site no. 548) in order to trace the historical variation of nutrient accumulation. Cores were 210Pb- and 137Cs-dated, and these data were used to calculate sedimentation rates and sediment accumulation rates. Ranges of dry mass accumulation rates and sedimentation rates were 0.27–0.96 g m−2 yr−1 and 0.27–0.90 cm yr−1, respectively. The effect of human activities on increased sediment accumulation rates was observed. Nutrients (TOC, N, P, and S) in sediment were analyzed and nutrient concentration and accumulation were compared in two marshes with different hydrologic regime: an “open” marsh (E-0) and a partly “closed” marsh (F-0). Differences in physical and chemical characteristics between sediments of “open” and partly “closed” marsh were also observed. The “open” marsh sequestered much higher amounts of TOC (1.82%), N (981.1 mg kg−1), P (212.17 mg kg−1), and S (759.32 mg kg−1) than partly “closed” marsh (TOC: 0.32%, N: 415.35 mg kg−1, P: 139.64 mg kg−1, and S: 624.45 mg kg−1), and the “open” marsh indicated a rather large historical variability of TOC, N, P, and S inputs from alluvial deposits. Nutrient inputs (2.16–251.80 g TOC m−2 yr−1, 0.43–20.12 g N m−2 yr−1, 0.39–3.03 g P m−2 yr−1, 1.60–15.13 g S m−2 yr−1) into the Xianghai wetlands of China are in the high range compared with reported nutrient accumulation rates for freshwater marshes in USA. The vertical variation, particularly for N, P, and S indicated the input history of the nutrients of the Xianghai wetlands developed in three periods—before 1950s, 1950–1980s, and after 1980s. The ratios between anthropogenic and natural inputs showed that the relative anthropogenic inputs of TOC, N, P, and S have been severalfold (TOC: 1.68–11.21, N: 0.47–3.67, P: 0.24–1.36, and S: 1.46–2.96) greater than values of their natural inputs after 1980s. The result is probably attributable, in part, to two decades of surface coal mining activities, urban sewage, and agriculture runoff within the upstream region of the Huolin River. Our findings suggest that the degree of anthropogenic disturbance within the surrounding watershed regulates wetland sediment, TOC, N, P, and S accumulation.  相似文献

We investigated three small streams in the New Territories of Hong Kong, China. In each stream, we compared the benthic macroinvertebrate fauna of one site immediately upstream of an area of agricultural land (market gardening) with a second site immediately downstream. Each pair of sites was < 300 m apart. Samples were taken at the end of the dry season (March 2000) and again (April 2000) just after heavy rainfall had caused runoff from the fields. The total number of taxa at the downstream sites was the same as that in the upstream sites in March. In April, the total taxon richness was lower at the downstream localities although this difference was statistically significant in only one stream. The acute toxic effect of runoff became clearer when focusing on the group of sensitive benthic fauna. The grouping was done by ranking the relatively physiological tolerance to organotoxins following the relevant literature (Bull. Environ. Contam. Toxicol. 67 (2001) 360). All streams showed a significant downstream decrease in the number of sensitive taxa in April, while in two of three streams the number of relatively tolerant taxa increased. Ordination (by n-MDS) confirmed this pattern. It revealed a marked temporal trend in all streams resulting from a decrease of sensitive taxa downstream that was not apparent at the upstream sites. The size of the observed effects varied among streams, and may have reflected differences in the composition of the agricultural runoff.  相似文献

Two waterhyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) biotypes from Broward County, Florida, were collected and analyzed for chlorophyll content and metal distribution (potassium, calcium, magnesium, cobalt, copper, manganese and iron) in roots, stems and leaves. Two biotypes were distinguished by size (medium or “stunted”, and large or “super”) and by whether they were or were not eaten (“stunted” and ”super”, respectively) by the waterhyacinth weevil, Neochetina eichhorniae Warner. Results are compared with a third biotype (small or “normal”): i.e. plants from the Hillsborough and Peace Rivers where the weevils have not been released. The data indicate abnormal concentration of cobalt and iron in the leaves of the “super” plants relative to the third biotype. Fractions of calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron and copper in roots showed a significant, negative linear correlation coefficient, r, with solubility product constant (log Ksp) for metal carbonates of the small and medium biotypes.  相似文献

Pesticides used in banana production may enter watercourses and pose ecological risks for aquatic ecosystems. The occurrence and effects of pesticides in a stream draining a banana plantation was evaluated using chemical characterization, toxicity testing and macrobenthic community composition. All nematicides studied were detected in the surface waters of the banana plantation during application periods, with peak concentrations following applications. Toxicity tests were limited to the carbofuran application and no toxicity was observed with the acute tests used. However, since pesticide concentrations were generally below the lowest LC50 value for crustaceans but above calculated aquatic quality criteria, there remains a risk of chronic toxicity. Accurate ecological assessments of pesticide use in banana plantations are currently limited by the lack of local short-term chronic toxicity tests and tests using sensitive native species. Relatively constant levels of four pesticides (imazalil, thiabendazole, chlorpyrifos and propiconazole), which had toxic effects according to the 96h hydra and 21d daphnia chronic test, were recorded in the effluent of the packing plant throughout the study, indicating that the solid waste trap used in this facility was not effective in eliminating toxic chemicals. Certain taxa, such as Heterelmis sp. (Elmidae), Heteragrion sp. (Megapodagrionidae, Odonata), Caenis sp. (Caenidae, Ephemerotera), and Smicridea sp. (Hidropsychidae, Trichoptera), were more abundant at reference sites than in the banana farm waters, and may be good candidates for toxicity testing. Multivariate analyses of the macroinvertebrate communities clearly showed that the banana plantation sites were significantly different from the reference sites. Moreover, following the pesticide applications, all the banana plantation sites showed significant changes in community composition, with the same genera being affected at all sites and for all pesticides (terbufos, cadusafos and carbofuran). Consequently, the results presented here show that multivariate analysis of community composition was more sensitive in distinguishing pesticide effects than the toxicity tests and richness and composition measures used. We conclude that monitoring macroinvertebrate communities can be a powerful tool in the assessment of ecological effects of banana production.  相似文献

Humans not only structure the landscape through their activities, but their perceptions of nature are affected by the spatial and temporal arrangements (structure) in the landscape. Our understanding of these interactions, however, is limited. We explored the relationship between landscape structure and peoples’ perceptions of nature in the Chicago, IL, USA, suburbs of Riverside and Berwyn because they offer contrasting paradigms of an urban landscape. Designed in the 1800s by Frederick Law Olmsted, Riverside has several unique design elements (curvilinear streets, ample setbacks, parkways of variable width with mowed grass and naturalistic groupings of trees) that define the structure and composition of this landscape. The urban forest was the keystone of Olmsted's desire to create a harmonious community characterized by “refined sylvan beauty”. In contrast, the adjacent community of Berwyn has right-angled streets with small lots and narrow setbacks for houses. Differences in landscape structure between the two communities produced differences in the diversity, size, and composition of woody vegetation. As measured by patch-size distribution, Riverside had greater diversity in landscape structure than Berwyn, and in turn, Riverside had greater diversity in the composition and size of the woody vegetation compared to Berwyn. Riverside tended toward a “natural” appearance with vegetation, while yards in Berwyn tended to be trimmed and edged. Significant differences between the mean ratings of Riverside and Berwyn respondents were found for six of seven community attribute categories. Riverside participants reported receiving greater benefit from the visual and nature-related features of the urban forest than did Berwyn respondents. Berwyn residents ranked social atmosphere for the community and locomotion (wayfinding) highest among the seven community attribute categories. Despite differences between the two communities, residents valued the green residential environment provided by vegetation. However, the more diverse urban landscape as measured by built structures, woody vegetation, and lot size and shape proved to be more satisfying to the residents of these two communities. The design concepts developed and implemented by Olmsted more than century ago in Riverside are still relevant to city planners striving to develop living environments that are satisfying to urban and suburban residents.  相似文献

Biological indexes, based on benthic macroinvertebrate taxa, are currently used worldwide to measure river ecological quality. These indexes assign a global ecological status of the biotic community, but not necessarily may detect specific effects of water pollutants. Conversely a large set of biochemical markers measured in macroinvertebrate benthic species can detect sublethal effects and inform us about additional environmental factors that are impairing benthic communities. This is especially interesting in moderately polluted sites, where other stressors are already affecting communities but not too strongly to be detected by biotic indexes. Up to ten different markers belonging to distinct metabolic paths and 42 contaminants measured in sample collections of the caddis fly Hydropsyche exocellata were assessed across a polluted gradient in the industrialized Mediterranean River basins of Besós and Llobregat (NE, Spain). Twenty four sample collections were selected to include macroinvertebrate communities representing the five impairment degrees defined by the Spanish Environmental authorities using the biotic metrics. Results evidenced a clear deterioration of the ecological water quality parameters and benthic communities towards downstream reaches. Biochemical responses varied significantly across the studied samples and were able to differentiate samples within communities having a good and deteriorated ecological stage. Principal Component Analyses indicated that salinity was one of the major stresses affecting macroinvertebrate assemblages, whereas antioxidant and metabolizing enzymes responded differently and were closely related to high and presumably toxic levels of accumulated organic pollutants. Therefore these results indicate that the use of multiple -markers sensitive to water pollution may provide complementary information to diagnose environmental factors that are impairing macroinvertebrate communities.  相似文献

We present a hybrid representation of architectural precedents that separates precedent instances from the concepts they embody, where the concepts are defined in terms of multiple classification taxonomies. The representation allows us to combine the classical view of concept acquisition with aspects of the probabilistic and exemplar views and to organize the database into the equivalents of “episodic” and “semantic” memory. A first application and test context is provided by the Software Environment to Support Early Building Design (SEED), where precedents are used as prototypes and cases. But the representation is flexible enough to support the use of precedents in other application contexts.  相似文献

Moisture-damaged buildings are associated with respiratory symptoms and underlying diseases among building occupants, but the causative agent(s) remain a mystery. We first identified specific fungal and bacterial taxa in classrooms with moisture damage in Finnish and Dutch primary schools. We then investigated associations of the identified moisture damage indicators with respiratory symptoms in more than 2700 students. Finally, we explored whether exposure to specific taxa within the indoor microbiota may explain the association between moisture damage and respiratory health. Schools were assessed for moisture damage through detailed inspections, and the microbial composition of settled dust in electrostatic dustfall collectors was determined using marker-gene analysis. In Finland, there were several positive associations between particular microbial indicators (diversity, richness, individual taxa) and a respiratory symptom score, while in the Netherlands, the associations tended to be mostly inverse and statistically non-significant. In Finland, abundance of the Sphingomonas bacterial genus and endotoxin levels partially explained the associations between moisture damage and symptom score. A few microbial taxa explained part of the associations with health, but overall, the observed associations between damage-associated individual taxa and respiratory health were limited.  相似文献

Physico-chemical and biological samples were collected from 12 sampling stations over a 13-month period to assess the effects of a small town's chlorinated sewage discharge and a thermal discharge on the Sheep River's macroinvertebrate communities. During the study, the chlorinated effluent plume was restricted to the left third of the channel for approx. 0.5 km at which point the effluent was thoroughly mixed due to an abrupt change in channel direction. Within the concentrated 0.5 km chlorinated plume, total residual chlorine TRC concentrations periodically exceeded 5.0 mg l−1. Stations were categorized into similar community assemblages on the basis of species abundance and composition using heirarchical cluster analysis. Stations immediately downstream of the thermal outfall and those within the chlorinated plume had distinctly different structure and were dominated by Oligochaeta. Multiple discriminant analysis indicated that temperature was the principle discriminating variable immediately below the thermal discharge while the chlorinated sewage (MCSE) variable was the most important discriminant function within the chlorinated effluent plume. Following complete mixing of the effluent plume within the stream channel (0.6 km downstream of outfall), macroinvertebrate structure and diversity improved, presumably due to nutrient enrichment and dilution of TRC below detectable levels.  相似文献

Macroinvertebrates were monitored during the summer of 2001 at two paired reference and impact sites, to assess potential effects of agricultural runoff, which was back-pumped upstream into Lake Okeechobee, USA. Monitoring was conducted prior to back-pumping (Pre, April-May), during back-pumping (BP, June-September) and during the following year (Post, April-September, 2002, impact sites only). Prior to back-pumping, the macroinvertebrate communities at both impact sites differed from those at their respective reference sites. During back-pumping, differences in the macroinvertebrate communities were slightly less pronounced among the eastern pair of sites but were more pronounced at the western sites than they were prior to back-pumping. There also were marginal differences in the macroinvertebrate communities at both impact sites between the Pre and BP periods, while very little change was observed in the communities among the same periods at both reference sites. For the Post-Pre and Post-BP period comparisons, there were clear differences between the macroinvertebrate communities at the western impact site, while less pronounced differences were observed at the eastern impact site. This suggests that the Post back-pumping assemblage did not return to that observed prior to back-pumping activity. During BP, several water-quality variables appeared to be different among each of the paired sites and the correlation between water-quality variables and macroinvertebrate community structure was strong at the western sites but weaker at the eastern sites. This suggests that a combination of abiotic variables may have been influencing the community structure at the western sites while back-pumping was occurring. Macroinvertebrates at all sites reflected poor water quality, but more taxonomic changes during back-pumping were observed at the impact sites than at the reference sites. It is not known if these taxonomic changes resulted in impacts among the macroinvertebrate community or to higher-trophic-level predators such as fish. If lake restoration activities result in a shift to a less pollution-tolerant macroinvertebrate community, and the anticipated reduction in future back-pumping activity does not occur, the macroinvertebrate community may return to one that is dominated by pollution-tolerant taxa in affected portions of the lake.  相似文献
